it was cute and fun to watch
6 December 2004
Not everything is meant to be a blockbuster. Not everything is supposed to be a CGI masterpiece. This movie was fun to watch. I enjoyed every minute of this movie. I found it lighthearted and funny. I may be weird, but I really loved watching Bob Newheart kicking butt! It was hilarious!

Noah Wyle was good in this role. I have loved him from day 1 on ER and was tickled to see him in his own movie. He exuded the wide eyed innocence necessary for the part...and pulled it off great. This was a movie that was wholesome and entertaining and a joy to watch. Yeah, I could see parts of Indiana Jones and even Star Wars, but who really cares. It was relaxing and fun to watch. And in a day of sensationalized reality TV, it was nice to kick back and enjoy something nice.

Absolutely AWESOME!!!

Never before has a movie exceeded my expectations such as this one has. I have been anxiously awaiting this movie...and my expectations were extremely high. From the opening moments, I was not disappointed in the least!

Yes, there are some parts that are different from the book...but I didn't care at all. The movie was amazing, awesome and I am going back in an hour and a half to see it again. 10+++++++ If this movie doesn't win the Oscar this year, I will never have faith in the Academy again.

Hannibal (2001)

Had it's moments-but nowhere near as good as I hoped

I have been waiting for this movie ever since I read the book about a year and a half ago. I LOVED the book. However, even though all of the hype around Jodi not being in the movie, and the fact that the ending was going to be changed from the book, I was still eagerly anticipating seeing Hannibal in action again. First let me say that the theater in which I saw the movie had the sequencing all wrong--so we got to see reel 3 and then reel 2. (the people in the theater, whom had not read the book, were very confused, escpecially since the 3rd reel begins at a very 'murderous' scene, and no idea what led up to it.) Also, the sound quality of the final reel was terrible...Still I was hopeful. First, Julianne did an admirable job, but she is not Clarice in any way shape or form. Granted, Clarice has definately taken a change from SOTL, but I am sorry. She could not begin to fill the roll with the same intensity that Jodi did. The chemistry between Lecter and Starling was laughable in this film. A lot of key moments in the book had also been changed. The relationship between Mason and his sister left a hole that was terribly missed. The explanation of why Mason was in the condition he was in, was confusing at best. The director (or writer) never made the point totally clear that Mason was even more contemptuous than Lecter could ever be. This was a huge mistake!! On to the ending....It was, technically, horrible. In at least 5 or 6 shots, you could see the boom mike dipping down and moving around in the shot!! It totally destroyed what was to be a critical point...it distracted you from the actors and what was occurring on the screen! Now, to the ending itself-I couldn't have been more disappointed. It made no sense-and left you feeling totally incomplete. The ending in the book was far fetched but a lot more beleivable than the tripe we were expected to swallow. You could see a lame attempt of the "powers that be" trying to keep the possibility of a sequel alive. The ONLY saving grace of the movie was Anthony Hopkins. Truly mesmorising in his roll and a joy to watch. HE was worth the wait, but the rest was a huge disappointment.

Enlightening
17 October 2000
I first saw this movie in the theater. After it was over, not a sound could be heard. It took a long time before the people even moved from their seats. Personally, I decided that some of the people that I knew, who did not show an interest in the movie, much less the holocaust, were going to see this movie. I am happy to say that everyone who I showed this movie to was moved and learned a lot. I know that some of the facts in the movie were not 100% accurate. Never the less, my friends and family grew, as compassionate human beings, after watching this film.

There is more to the story
17 October 2000
Joanne Woodward was wonderful in this movie. She really showed the confusion and hardship surrounding multiple personality disorder. Years later, however, I found a book called, "I'm Eve". It was the autobiography of Chris Sizemore, the person the movie is based on. If you would like the continuation of this story, and there is a lot more, then this book is a must read.
