Star Trek: Enterprise: Broken Bow, Part 1 (2001)
Season 1, Episode 1
1/10
Can we say continuity?
1 December 2005
Anybody who has ever been a fan of the original series, or even has a clue about the storyline should be embarrassed by this series. The Borg does not come around until Q brings the Enterprise to the Gamma sector, the Klingons are NEVER seen until Kirk encounters them, the NCC-1701 was the FIRST ship to carry the Enterprise name....need I go on? Berman and Pilliar have made a mockery of Gene Roddenberry's creation. After he died, they only saw $$$$ and just went their own way. No wonder Majel Barrett was in every single episode of star trek until this series. I don't blame her for not being involved with this mess. Poor Bakula. He's a great actor, as are the entire cast. I like them all, but the storyline is tragic and ignores all of the precedents set by the original series. Just check the ratings. I think more people watched Deep Space 9 (which was untimely canceled).

Big Fish (2003)
Tim Burton proves his flexibility and his softer side
2 January 2004
Tim Burton has proved he is not just about making noir films. The script and the story are utterly lovable. You really identify with this movie if you've ever had any disparate feelings about your dad, and wondered what he really did when he was away. Second, but most of all, the special effects enhance this story instead of upstage it. Finally have we reached the time that effects arent all about explosions and big guns. They can really help to tell this story. I highly reccomend seeing this before it leaves the big screen, because that only makes the movie that much bigger. A+

A vast improvement
2 January 2004
After watching this series with my eyes half closed for the first episode, I was delightfully surprised. There were too many sex scenes, and watching the good Dr talk to himself is a bit annoying at times, and so is that blonde flaky cylon. If and I mean IF there are still fans of the original series, they most likely live in their parents basement, have goatees, ponytails, and have a big paunch and spend their time arguing which DC action figure is worth more. This miniseries is a huge improvement. Especially when the sublight ships are left behind and they curse them on the radio. Serious lack of cheese factor in this miniseries.

Yet another CGI disaster
28 August 2003
Kudos for the special effects team, set designers, and many other bits of the movie that MUST distract you from the fact that this movie, special effects removed, SUCKED!

Misspelled "QUARTERMAIN" clearly visible in the few mins of the opening Absolutely calm seas abord the submarine "movie set"

I can make a list as long as Jekyl's arms, but most who are fans of Alan Moore, will hopefully save their money. Speaking of Jekyl, he was my favorite due to his immersion in his part, and the almost believable prosthetics/CGI monster Hyde. Othewise, the only other acting kudos goes to Stewart Townsend, who rises above his embarrasing Queen of the Damned performance. I can't wait till we get used to the effects technology, and go back to basics with little things like plot, script, etc.

The GRANDADDY OF ALL CAR CHASE MOVIES
12 February 2003
Yes, like most others, I saw that great embarrasment of Cage and Jolie's careers. The others in that movie only re-iterate how sad and overblown the movie and plot were. I think the original cost about a third of what ONE stunt costs in the new one. Anyhoo, my point is, that if you love great blow ups, and brooding actors, don't watch the original. However, if you love car chases, jumps, and find yourself a closet Dukes of Hazzard fan, this is the movie for you. One of the best parts is actually seeing the opening of one of the most traveled freeways in L. A. and seeing it turned into a demolition derby. H.B. actually got a bunch of friends, and did this masterpiece. I heard that the owner of the dealership near the end didn't actually have any idea what was actually to take place. hehehe Hands down the best and I mean THE BEST Mustang chases ever recorded on film. I bet Ford got a huge kick out of seeing the actual car being creamed by other Plymouths and Dodge Sattelites and driving away at 65, not to mention it is the ONLY car used in the chase. No Hollywood stunt cars here.

Tombstone (1993)
good god y'all
4 February 2003
As a Tucson Native, I was totally impressed. Most people from other parts of the world will believe any western with a saguaro in it. This movie is one of the best of all time, and I worked at Old Tucson. If you're looking for a historical timeline, forget it. It's condensed for dramatic purposes, but still it flows, it's got love, action, comedy(mostly Kilmer) and a serious story of what the old west really was like. Amen for this one as opposed to the tragic The Quick and the Dead which was kinda silly if your brain is turned on whilst watching it. Watch for Priestly's, um, unusual performance. It also has a great back story on Earp's life, which makes for much more than a shallow shoot'em up movie.

The Ring (2002)
First Signs, now The Ring
24 October 2002
I'm the kind of guy who laughs through farces like I know who you screamed at last summer, and movies like it. I also laughed through Friday the 13 part XXXIIV and all the Freddie movies. This movie scared the pants off of me, and I wear belts. So that tells you something. This movie was brilliantly executed, and the tense cinematography has you on the edge of your seat. The buildup music was a bit gratuitus which contrasted the fear generated in Signs. The big seller for me, was that there was NOT a happy ending. You are lead to wonder what will happen to mother and child after the video tapes are circulated. A B+
