Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005)
What was Mahesh Manjaraker doing?
I like Mahesh Manjaraker's movies. Viruddh for example was so well made, I went expecting at least a decent movie. But for me this was a terrible waste of time. This movie was torturous at best.
But of course, if you have liked Main Hoon Na, you probably would like this one too. There are some nice visual effects but they are used out of context. The story is confused. It has got elements copied from Sound of Music, Ghost, Bruce Almighty and also from Hindi movies like: Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Brahmchari. But there is no blend.Characters doing anything at times and the story going in every direction.
This movie, had some interesting parts and if it was properly edited, could have saved us from a lot of torture.
Mr. 3000 (2004)
a creative story line
This is a great movie. You will enjoy it if you think a bit. It is funny at times; philosophical at times and at times it even manages to build up a little suspense.
Bernie Mac has got a great timing. No I am not talking baseball. I am talking ability to be funny. Angela Bassett did a good job in her short role. I liked Paul Sorvino in his micro-mini role.
This movie gives us the message, 'success is over-rated'! There are more things in life than that. So if you like baseball, go see it. If you don't, go see it. You may find a different message in it. Suit yourself!
Abar Aranye (2003)
no story frame, so many unedited songs, terrible cinematography
There are several drawbacks of the movie. There is only one good point, you will like it when the old "Aranyer Dinratri" is recalled on screen.
Tabu is a horrible bangla speaker. Her dialogue is so heavily accented that keeps you wondering what the hell is she doing here? There are too many songs and most of them are not edited properly.
Cinematography is worse than a regular steady-shot handy cam. There is no solid story frame to build the moments on. Everything is haphazard.
Too many characters in the film, and most of them are so artificial. Before becoming comfortable with the cast on the screen, the director keeps adding new characters and the plot keeps becoming more and more unstable. Seems like the director suggested the crew to just be themselves, but nobody had any idea about what he/she is doing. It is painful to watch. So beware of it.
