Hopscotch (1980)
Smart - A beautiful tribute to Walter and Glenda
Intelligent, timeless comedy that is a pleasure to watch over and over again. My favorite "Walter" film by far. His pairing with Glenda represents the unique mixture of two of acting's great curmudgeons. The scene with Myerson's house is a classic set-up. Very fun!
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
What is Maltin Talking About?
One of the top five comedies of all time. This is a **** movie that lives on today. Did Leonard rate the wrong movie? This movie spawned a whole new dialogue amongst it's viewers. Must be viewed in a series with "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Caddyshack", "Ford Fairlane" and a viewers choice between "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" or "Revenge of the Nerds". As for snacks during this multi-feature extravaganza, pass on the soda pop and popcorn and opt instead for Schmidt Beer (with the wild ducks on the box) and pepperoni sticks. You are in for a truly enjoyable cinematic evening. Re-runs from "The Man Show" are appropriate if the crowd is hungry for more.
Patton (1970)
A fine tribute to a great patriot and fearless warrior
I am a fan of both General Patton and the movie that captured a portion of his duty in WWII. It exposes Patton's incredible strengths and vulnerabilities. George C. Scott gives one of his best performances. It leaves the viewer with the impression that Patton unnecessarily risked GI lives to "make a bigger splash" with his peers and the media. Statistics show that his aggressive "hold 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the ass" strategy actually resulted in lower casualties. Watched in conjunction with "The Big Red One" and "Saving Private Ryan" gives one an initial sense of the horror and sacrifice in the European Theatre. As a mini-biography, as an introduction to WWII, as a lesson in leadership under tremendous adversity or just for pure inspiration, Patton is one of the great films of my lifetime.
