Vampires: Los Muertos (2002)
Is this what is defined as scary?
Were they trying to produce or horror movie or a spoof? Come on, pills to prevent turning into a vampire, riiighhhhhht. Oh and that temptress, I mean that master vampire yeah she was frightening too. At the end of the movie I wasn't sure whether to laugh or fear, fear viewing another movie with Jon Bon Jovi.
Hysterical Blindness (2002)
Hysterical acting, blinding make-up/costumes
Contains Spoiler
I have to admit I enjoyed this dark, thought-provoking gem of a movie despite the wardrobe (the only thing decent about Uma's clothing was the scene in her bra and panties.) The acting was over-the-top in quite a few of the scenes, but was meant to have that "hysterical" element to it. Lewis delivered an incredible, realistic performance as usual, but still did not make up for the stale, depressing let down of an ending. The death of Gazzara did not fit, it was as if the writers couldn't think of anything to tie ends together. 8.5/10* acting 5/10* storyline.
Almost Famous (2000)
Skip the movie, get the sdtrk
I guess I don't understand what is so great about this movie! The theme has been played to death. Just one half hour clip of VH1's behind the music sums up this whole 2 hour love song. The only part of this movie that surprised me had to be the ending when the main character (the geek) didn't hook up with blondie (the out of his league hottie). It's my belief that since the movie contains A.) Rockin' music and artists of the 70's and B.)A kid writing for Rolling Stone Magazine that people are more drawn to it, and will consider it unique, kind of a Forrest Gump like charisma. Sorry guys, it's all been done before. 6/10*
Down to You (2000)
Boring, predictable plot
There is absolutely no chemistry between Prinz and Styles, and the genre of this movie is a romantic comedy. This movie's pace is very slow and boring, and for what? A pathetic ending with absolutely no depth is what you have to look forward to. If you want to see a cliched plot and pointless conclusion, then this movie is the one for you.
Bowfinger (1999)
Funny Steve Martin movie
This movie was better than I thought it would be. The best work Steve Martin has done since Parenthood. The script I thought was very original, the ending a little cheesy, but overall it was funny. I enjoyed Steve Martin's character the most, but all the characters did a great job. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys Martin and his skits on SNL. Watch this movie!!!!!
The Green Mile (1999)
American Beauty beat this?
The Green Mile certainly got cheated out of an Oscar, I can't believe a movie such as American Beauty beat it. Characters in the Mile did an excellent job acting, like in Beauty, but the Green Mile's characters were more developed, and easier to relate with. The story line was exceptional, while in Beauty it was just irritating. The Green Mile is an exceptional, moving film, that won't leave one dry eye in the house.
B*A*P*S (1997)
Bad Movie!
I can't believe Halley Berry actually agreed to act in this movie. I wouldn't even recommend anyone to watch it on cable on a boring night. The acting was poor, the plot was non-existent, and the ending was all too predictable. Not one scene in this movie I enjoyed, overall a 2/10.
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Great Action, weak script
The action sense of this movie was very good, but the plot was weak, and contained too much Cruise. It needed to have more of the team work essence as in series, but like I said above, the action scenes were cool. I recommend this to anyone who isn't interested in an "academy" type of plot. Overall a 7/10.
American Beauty (1999)
Won how many Oscars?
I just do not understand why American Beauty won, or even was nominated for any Oscars. Annette's character was underdeveloped, the boy next door was rather annoying, and Spacey's part wasn't that challenging. The movie was ok, but that's all I'll give it. Give me a movie with actual depth in the characters, and less stereotypical nonsense, and I'll be happy.
Switchback (1997)
Had potential
This movie had the potential to be an excellent thriller. Glover and Leto's performance was very good, but Quaid's fell short, he was just plain dull. The scenery was beautiful, which added greatly to the movie, but the ending was very disappointing. Overall I give this movie a 6 out of 10.
The Waterboy (1998)
They call this a comedy?
Sandler's worst movie yet! The attempts at comedy were pathetic, and seeing the crowd laugh at the ludicrous nonsense was quite embarassing. I refuse to watch another Sandler movie in which he stars as a slow dumb a**. My suggestion if you're a Sandler fan, don't waste your money to rent it, wait till it comes out on cable.
Firstborn (1984)
One depressing movie
My father and I saw this movie together years ago, and we couldn't get over how down this movie makes you feel. The message clearly was "don't do drugs," but after it was over I wanted drugs, and lots of them to make the pain stop. Peter Weller I want to always remember as RoboCop, the good guy going after the foul-mouthed drug pushers. Instead he's a drug selling, red-headed stepchild beating loser. Teri Garr's role as a coked-out party mom was old after the first half hour. The best part of the movie was all the cool drugs. I never tried cocaine until after viewing this movie, there might a subliminal message in there somewhere.
