Crash Dive (1996)
Painful to watch!
As a former submarine sailor, this was the most pathetic submarine movie I've ever watched. A friend bought it for me as a birthday gift and I felt obligated to watch it. Apparently, it was too difficult to round up ANYBODY who had ever served aboard a submarine to correct a few of the several hundred mistakes. Had they asked someone like me, this may have turned out to be a fair movie.
Dudikoff's character was suppose to be a Navy SEAL... He sure didn't fight like a SEAL, especially when that woman was kicking his a**!
Furthermore, the ocean is pretty deep once you move away from the continental shelf. Submarines are not able to cruise around along the bottom of the ocean. They try to stay away from rocks and stuff that might damage the hull if you were to accidentally run into it.
Also, with the intense firefight near the end of the movie, I thought it was amazing that not even a single bullet ricocheted.
Finally, SSN submarines do not have vertical launch tubes, SSBN submarines are the ones with vertical launch tubes.
I appreciate my friend giving my this gift, but I'll never get these 90 minutes back!
The Tuxedo (2002)
I'm glad I didn't have to pay for this!
I just saw a free screening of this. As I was walking out at the end (it was rough sitting through until the end but I'm pretty durable), I told the person I was with that I'm extremely happy that I didn't have to part with any $$$ to see this. There were 3 or 4 times when I chuckled at the juvenile storyline. The biggest problem with the movie is that the storyline (even though it's juvenile) is extremely hard to follow. The segues are abrupt and there's nothing to link what just happened with what is currently happening.
The only good thing about the movie is that Jennifer Love Hewett looks ravishing in most every scene she appears in.
Cast Away (2000)
Long & slow, but most important, thought provoking.
The movie seems longer than it actually is because there's not a lot of action. Other than the crash scene, the movie was slow and even tempoed.
After the movie, while everyone else was complaining about what a yawner the film was, I was thinking about the events that had taken place. The most important quote of the film (I think) what when Chuck Noland told Wilson, "Don't commit the sin of turning your back on time."
Although long, I'd recommend this movie to anyone who's at a turning point in their life, or someone who questions their place in this world. This movie generated some good questions in my mind.
