Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
This sequel SO doesn't suck!
H20 is a very enjoyable movie, it kept me on the edge of my seat for the most part. Jamie Lee is as sexy as ever in this film, but one thing that concerns me about the horror movies that have been released AFTER 'SCREAM' is that they don't follow the golden rules of a horror movie anymore, anyone and everyone gets killed, weather you are or aren't a virgin! there were ALOT of 'SCREAM' related references such as: * the background music, exactly like the opening scene music from SCREAM. * when Laurie tells her son and his girlfriend to leave, she says, " drive down to the Becker's" (who are from SCREAM). All in all, this was a VERY fun and scary movie, i give it 8/10
Cut (2000)
This is the exact type of movie that 'SCREAM' made fun of!
well, what can i say to this exceptionally "wonky" aussie flick, that practically regurgitate's everything that SCREAM made famous and cleaver! i was waiting for the character to make their own rules of a scary movie, that's how tacky it was! the movie started without any opening credits (sounds familiar?) and "cut" through the first 15 minutes of the film with the movie title (deja vu?) there was a bright and funny cast that was left with nothing but a STUPID script and dumb killer! throughout the film, i kept telling my friend "that's the killer, no that's the killer" when near during the film, this "crusty" old lady comes and says "the killer only exists within the contexts of the film" which went downhill from there. the characters did the opposite of what SCREAM taught us, when they knew someone was about to chop 'em up, they just stayed there, without screaming OR telling the other person, they just stayed hoping the killer would go away!! When Hillary was about to get hacked up, all she said to the killer was "stay back, or i'll scream" when she knew she was gonna get it!! Also, how the characters kept on using references from other horror films like 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th' REALLY bugged me, and when a girl said something like " don't worry, this isn't gonna be like 'Bride of Chucky 7'" i mean BRIDE of chucky 7, they haven't even made no. 5 yet!!!!!!! the only good thing that came out of this movie was the soundtrack, which i didn't buy, but won in a cheap competition! this aussie "shocker" was bad, and i mean REALLY BAD! 3/10
Candyman (1992)
I'm glad 'The Candyman' ain't my dad!!!
this was a very scary and enjoyable film, i got a scare here and there. the acting was good, all in all a good movie for a Saturday night horror fest. But whatever you do, don't say his name 5 times in the mirror, in the dark and by yourself!!! Trust me! the ending was a bit predictable, but great!! i give this soon to be classic 7.5/10
Scream 3 (2000)
The 3rd and Final Chapter of the Trilogy that Made Me Laugh, and Made me SCREAM!!!
I am probably one the the BIGGEST 'SCREAM' fans put on this earth, and when i found out there was going to be a 'SCREAM 3' in late '98 i went crazy! When i got the internet, i was on every scream-trilogy website i could find, i would visit them everyday. Seeing that i'm from Australia, i knew i was going to get the movie later than the americans, which kind of bugged me! So after the movie came out, i had really high expectations of the film, and this is what i got... Firstly, i was DYING (so to speak :) to find out who the opening victim(s) were, and when i did see who it/ they were, i thought, "yeah why not" at least it gave me a scare or 2, but i thought that Craven would get someone "new", but it wasn't a total loss. When i saw all the actors in the movie, i was thinking, "like, seriously, if the body count is gonna be bigger, how are we gonna "connect" with the new characters like we did in the first 2 movies?" and i was right, we could not connect with them, which kinda got me angry! the death scenes were a bit too quick with not (if any) enough blood in them. In my opinion all the wrong people died. i couldn't wait for Jenny McCarthy's Cameo, and that's all it was, a cameo! when they revealed the ending, i was so... (i can't swear) it was the dumbest of the trilogy, but the motive was good. but the killer(s) were 100% un-guessable! Also when the killer kept on disappearing from every killing, i thought was exaggerated! One of my favorite scenes i the movie is when the big explosion happens, that was very exciting for me!!! the scares kept on coming, even though you knew that the killer was going to pop up, i still got scared, which is VERY rare for me. All in all, this movie is VERY entertaining, and i would recommend it for anyone who likes a good scare, it's not AS perfect as the first one but still one of the best. i give this film a very good 8/10. (some of that goes to Parker Posey, who is a BABE!!!)
Dolly Dearest (1991)
I'll NEVER get those 93 minutes of my life back!!!
One of the worst movies i have EVER seen, I can't believe that i sat all the way through thinking to myself "it'll get better, it'll get better"...but it didn't get better! The characters were so underdeveloped and just plain annoying! i couldn't believe the mother could just let her daughter do as she pleased, and how she would manipulate her mother and the mother was TOO blind to see it. the main character(s) in the film talks all together for about 5 minutes! It wasn't even scary, you could tell instantly that this sorry excuse for a movie was just a rip off of the very popular movies 'Child's Play' and 'The Exorcist'! to the people who think they'd like this film...YOU'RE WRONG!TRUST ME!! i give this crap 1/10
April Fool's Day (1986)
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!
I reckon that this film is one of the coolest films of the 80's! you couldn't take your eye off it for one second without missing something cool happen and i love that in a movie! i was a little confused though, like all the "equipment" in everyone's rooms. I also like that they didn't have a million dollar budget, it was just plain and simple! i *highly* recommend this film to anyone who wants a scary night in! 8/10
Carrie (1976)
I really felt sorry for Carrie...but hey, she got her revenge!
****may contain slight spoilers**** i really enjoyed watching "Carrie", Sissy Spacek was *the best* as Carrie, getting someone else to play the part would have been stupid! I really felt sorry for Carrie in the beginning of the film when she had her period and all the girls just mocked her for being as innocent as she was! Piper Laurie (carrie's mum) was very convincing as the satin hating, cape wearing, abusive mother in this film, as was Amy Irving(sue snell)and i *really* felt sorry for Carrie's gym theacher Miss Collins who was very supportive, understanding, and caring of Carrie throughout the film...but...didn't get the exact gratitude that she deserved(if you know what i mean). the only scene that i believed to be for the most part "scary" was the prom scene near the end. i give this movie 7/10 (some of which is for Carrie, for kicking butt in the end and the "groovy" 70's music)
It (1990)
I loved Pennywise the Clown...but that's about it!
****contains spoilers**** when i first saw this movie in the video store i thought that i HAD to get it, but boy was that a wrong move! It started out like any other movie, a scare here a scare there but about 15-20 minutes into the film i began having doubts about wheather or not i should finish watching it because i hardly ever saw my favourite character throughout the movie which was "Pennywise the Clown". I didn't like the performances of most of the "adults" in this movie, i didn't find them very convincing. i didn't understand why they desided to make "Eddie Spaggetti" a virgin at fourty something years of age! i think the movie defenitly went about one hour too long. But the dumbest part of the movie was the ending, *very* sureal and stupid! they kept the movie *fairly* normal untill the end, they had to get something silver and shoot it at the "clown", and they didn't explain anything about what the "dead light" was! i give this one 5.5/10 (five for "Pennywise" and the half for the other actors)
Child's Play (1988)
not all that scary.....
i haven't seen child's plays 2, 3, and 4 yet but if they aren't as scary as the first than i shouldn't bother renting them! firstly, i hardly saw any blood! which really got me angry, i mean come on if your going to classify a movie "horror" you should make it at least a little bit horrific! i loved Chucky in the movie, he was so "two faced" like in the scene where Andy's mum is eves dropping on Andy talking to the doll (so that she can see if the doll REALLY talks to Andy)and Chucky looks at the door (because he knows she's there) and he says something very "Good Guys" to Andy which I thought was very sneaky. the ending was ok, but like i said before there wasn't enough blood and gore. for chucky i give him...6/10 (for his swearing and "good looks")
Wishmaster (1997)
98% CRAP 2% SCARY
When i first saw this film i expected it to be pretty good... but boy was i wrong!!! VERY overdone plot, o.k. acting but that was about it! all this movie had to go on was its over graphical scenes! Throughout the movie i just kept wishing to myself that this movie would just go away...but it didn't because my brother had the remote! (slight spoiler) the only good thing about this movie was at the end when Tammy Lauren asked the Djinn to turn back time to make a man who was already dead come back to life (if you watched the movie, you'd know what i mean) which forced the Djinn to do it thus leaving the woman alone for good.......or is he? i give this film 4.5/10 (for its blood and gore!)
Ticks (1993)
To the people who like this film...i hope that you get infested by the ticks too!!
I was about 12 when i watched this pathetic excuse for a horror movie, my brother was 10 and he wasn't even scared by this so called "scary movie". when i saw Alfonso Ribeiro (from 'fresh prince') i thought that this was going to be a VERY good funny/ scary movie...but as usual i was a bad judge of character! Most of the death scenes in this movie looked like i could make them myself in my backyard with a cam-corder! trust me stay away from this one, and if you find this movie on the ground and there's no-one else around...do not take it home with you, it's not worth the pain and suffering! i give this flick 3/10
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
typical horror movie trash!
when I first rented this movie i was very interested on how the movie would continue from the way the first one ended, it fulfilled my expectations on that part...but that was about it! Although Jennifer Love, and Brandy's acting was good that wasn't enough to keep my eyes on the movie the whole time. The movie (in my opinion) didn't really have much of a plot to go with all the killings, it was as everyone says just a typical 'teen slasher movie' that is ruining the reputation of horror movies yet again! I was equally disappointed when i found out that Kevin Williamson didn't write the script for this one! A very disappointing effort, i give this one 4/10
Troll 2 (1990)
I'm speechless!!
when i saw this sorry excuse for a horror movie i was 12 and it made me laugh and in no way scared me!!! The acting was TERRIBLE, i couldn't believe that i sat all the way through this movie, i began cursing my cousin for spending $4.00 for renting this film! for the first time in a long time..I'm speechless!! MISS THIS ONE (TRUST ME)1.5/10
The Exorcist (1973)
One of the scariest movies that i have ever seen!
I still remember the first time I watched this movie, I was 14 years old and alone in the living room, i thought that a movie that is older than i am is not worth watching, but man was I wrong! I found the start of the film to be quite slow and boring but when I got through about 15-20 minutes of the movie that's when i got REALLY scared, i would have to check behind me every 10 minutes to see if anything was there, which is unusual for me because i can usually predict what's going to happen in a horror movie! The acting was excellent, i especially loved Linda Blair (Regan)when she was possesed, she made it look too real, that whenever she came on i wanted to put the light on! This movie is definitly for more mature people, with it's complex storyline and amazing but simple graphics this movie is one for you to watch( that is only if you like 20/25 year old horror movies) i give this classic piece of horror movie history 9/10
Scream 2 (1997)
second best!!!
As much as i love SCREAM 2 it is not as good as the first! The plot is excellent and it kept you guessing 'till the end but it didn't have the same creativity as the first one did. The SCREAM TRILOGY has now become well known for it's opening scenes, the first one was the best but the second lacked in fright, and mystery. The cast were one of the best with Courtney Cox as the money hungry Gale Weathers and the 'scream queen' herself Neve Campbell as the helpless little victim Sydney Prescott. The ending will shock and confuse you, with a VERY surprising twist at the end. A must see!!! 9.5/10
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
pretty good but not better than SCREAM!
I actually thought the movie was pretty good but some critics were saying that it was 10 times scarier than SCREAM! which is totally wrong! It is basically a typical 'slasher' flick. i had to watch the movie 2 or3 times before i got the ending, which was pointless because there weren't many if any suspects. i think that Sarah Michelle Gellar did a brillient performance as Helen, Jennifer Love was too depressing, but all in all if you want a SCARY night in you could rent this one.
Scream (1996)
it is going to go down in in the horror history books...
If you want a movie that will make you laugh and scare you than SCREAM is the movie for you. With an all star cast, SCREAM is irresistible to watch, it has more twists and turns that you would ever imagine. the plot outline is basically about a girl Sidney Prescott who is being stalked by a serial killer in the small town of Woodsboro no-one is safe, and EVERY ONE'S a suspect. you will be totally blown away with the ending which i will not spoil for those who haven't seen it, but it catches you off guard. The most POWERFUL scene in the movie is at the beginning of the film, Drew Barrymore makes the character of Casey Becker come to life. This film is one of the best of all time. 10/10 !!!
Hell Night (1981)
If you want a good laugh then this is the movie for you!!
Hell Night is probably one of the most boring movies I have ever seen! The entire movie was basically two of the characters having sex in one room and the other two just sitting around asking each other if they heard a noise! The was not much of an enjoyable plot, just a typical 'slasher' movie. The death scenes were HORRIBLE, and not scary horrible by CRAP horrible...what ever you do skip this film an rent something worth watching....like 'Halloween'!!!
