Scary Movie 2 (2001)
At parts funny, but overall not substantial
Ok, just to set the record straight, I though the original 'Scary Movie'
was tons of funny and really hilarious. I had high hopes that the level
of humor would be as funny as the first, but was kinda disappointed.
The movie started out really funny, with a right-on spoof of 'The
Excorcist'. From there on, the jokes kept on coming, and occasionally
were quite hilarious. Hanson's hand had my friend and I rolling in the
aisles. But after a while, tediousness set in and the jokes lost their
punch. The reason I think the first installment was so successful is
because this kind of spoof was so fresh and new. But now, it is kinda
played out and even the extremely short running time seemed way to long.
In short, 'Scary Movie 2' is ok summertime fun, but I would really
suggest waiting for video; if at all.
My rating: 6 out of 10
Scream 3 (2000)
A fun, slasher romp that is the final chapter
When I saw the first of the 3 'Scream's', I fell in love with it
becauseit was such a fresh new kind of movie and had a talented young
cast. From the hilarious and subtle jokes to the thrilling and violent
sequences, this movie had it all. When 'Scream 2' came out, I was
anxious in seeing how it compared to the first. I was not disappointed;
the same amazing mix of comedy and terror were still there-- but the
characters were wearing a bit thin. Now with 'Scream 3' (the first not
to be directed by Wes Craven, but by the guy who did 'Arlington Road'
which I loved) there is even more parody and blood that ensues. I still
like characters like Gale Weather and Sidney Prescott, but have to say
that I am kinda glad this is the final chapter. Leave this trilogy on a
high (yet gory) note. This movie didn't skimp on blood, but it's heart
was in the same place as the first two and I can say that I really liked
this movie. My rating: 8.5 out of 10 sst
Legally Blonde (2001)
Great summetime fun!
I went into 'Legally Blonde' expecting a fun, hilarious, enjoyable
comedy about blondes being blondes. And I got exactly what I wanted. A
friend said that it was like "Clueless goes to college", and I can see
what she meant. Reese Witherspoon is adorable and perfect in the part
that let her act upon her naturally flaxen hair. The plot if fluffy and
funny, but all in all I truly loved this film. Great acting, a cool
soundtrack and lotsa laughs (including most coming from the HILARIOUS
Paulette--:) make this movie a fun summertime treat! My score: 9 out of
10

Toy Story 2 (1999)
A totally great and funny new kids film- thats not just for kids
'Toy Story 2' is just soo side splittengly hilarious and great,I
loved it so much! It is I think better than the original, which
was also very kewl. Go see this movie- Woody, Jessie and Buzz
rock! My rating: 10 out of 10
American Beauty (1999)
A really good flick that appeals to all ages
'American Beauty' was a really great film that in my opinion
should win for best picture. The cast was great, the story was
really dark and intriguing and I really think that it is a
fantastic movie. See for yourself. My rating: 9.5 out of
Double Jeopardy (1999)
Pretty suspensful when you think about it
'Double JEopardy' was really good, suspensful and kept you
guessing throughout the length of the film. Ashley Judd and
Tommy Lee Jones were good in their parts, especially Judd. As in
most movies, the plot is a little far-fetched, but that doesn't
really matter b/cuz the movie is so interesting. I liked'Double
Jeopardy' a lot, if only the previews didn't give away so much. ~~~~~~My rating: 8 out
Idle Hands (1999)
Sometime funny, a tad scary but a whole hecka lotta fun
Ok, I didn't get around to see 'Idle Hands' in the movie
theaters, but since it looked like an interesting "teen-horror"
flick, I checked it out on video. Overall, it was pretty cool
and I liked it. The plot is a little fantastical (a boy's hand is suddenly
possesed and he can't control what it does, like MURDER
PEOPLE!), but it's a movie so suspend disbelief and go with it.
The movie does have some funny parts (mostly Seth Green, like
"Look at me, I'm Leatherface!), plus there are some gory, bloody
and NASTY parts to it too ( I won't spoil it 4 ya) and you have
got to see the cameo by one of the bestest bands ever... the
OFFSPRING!! Watch out for Dexter's hair! My rating:7.5
Popular (1999)
A really cool TV show that is soo funny
I really only started watching 'Popular' by accident. Since I
luv 'Dawson's Creek', I thought I'd give 'Popular' a shot. I
mean what did I have to loose except watching a horrible show?
Well I really ended up loving this show, and I look forward to
it every week. The characters are likeable; the popular Brooke and her new
stepsister Samantha, who hate each other; Rhymes with witchy
Nicole who you love to hate; and Carmen who seems really sweet.
Well all I'm gonna say about this show is I love it, it's funny
and now I have to tape 'Friends' b/cuz of it!!! =0
Superstar (1999)
Sometimes hilarious, but stupid like most SNL movies are.
'Superstar' was really funny, SUPERSTA!, especially when Mary Katherine Gallagher utters these words so funnily, and the rest of the movie is pretty funny too. But when you think about it, this movie is a little stupid, but that's what makes it great. My rating: 7 out of
Drive Me Crazy (1999)
An ok plot with some funny parts.
'Drive Me Crazy' was funny at times and Melissa Joan Hart was >good, but sometimes this movie had some rough times.Overall I >liked this movie, but some things just didn't make sense why >they put them into the film. And Britney Spears song playing >every 5 minutes almost drove me crazy. But overall it was ok, >but wait for video. My rating: 7 out
You've Got Mail (1998)
A good and sweet romance movie
"Youve Got Mail" was a really sweet romantic comedy that I liked a lot. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks were both really good, they both had great chemistry. It was cool seeing them go from hating each others guts to falling head over heels in love.
Since I am an avid user of AOL, this was a great topic to go with a great movie.
My rating: 7.5 out of 10
Halloween (1978)
a CREEPY classic horror film
A word to the wise.. do NOT watch this movie alone.. at night. Both mistakes made my me, me and my STUPID self. I say this cuz "Halloween" is soo scary and creepy, Jamie Lee Curtis is really good at playing the scared silly babysitter, and then there's MICHAEL MEYERS! Don't get me started on him!
Him with his white mask and fresh butcher knife! He is one of the creepiest characters ever! (Besides BARNEY of course!). Rent this film today if all of it's gory.. uh, glory!
My Rating: 9 out of 10
The Waterboy (1998)
funny and goofy, but what else should you expect from and Adam Sandler film?
"The Waterboy" is a really silly and goofy movie, but fun to watch. Adam Sandler and Fairuza Balk are really funny, and the premise is ok too. If you are a fan of Sandler then you'll love this. And if you're not keep and open mind, you might be pleasantly surprised.
My rating: 7 out of 10
Risky Business (1983)
A good 80's film
"Risky Business" is a very entertaining movie. Tom Cruise is very good, I liked this movie as a whole. My favorite part is where Tom Cruise borrows his dad's Porsche (without his permission of course), and forgets to put it in park. Since the keys are in the car, he tries to stop it himself from rolling down the hill and into a lake. This is really funny, and the car stops rolling right on the dock. Then all of a sudden it comes crashing down into the water! It was funny, but a little predictable. The rest of the movie was just as funny, it was cool seeing Tom getting out of these impossible situations.
My rating: 7 out of 10
Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)
A totally fun flick!
I really loved "Teaching Mrs. Tingle"! It was really fun, and I liked it a lot. Katie Holmes was really good as the school's valedictorian, and Barry Watson and Marisa Caughlin were equally good as the best friends. Helen Mirren was really great, and a little frightening as the evil Mrs. Tingle who wants her students to fail.
Leigh Anne (Holmes) is the smartest girl in school, but is found with Mrs. Tingle's final. Tingle is happy to find this, because she wants all students to fail. Leigh Anne is actually innocent... But to persuade Tingle not to expel the three, they go to her house, and things get more fun and twisted from there.
The best and funniest scene in this movie is Marisa doing an impersonation from the "Exorcist". It made my eyes water!
Overall, this movie is very suspenseful, a little scary and totally funny! This movie rocked!
My rating: 10 out of 10
Pleasantville (1998)
A very interesting film
"Pleasantville", starring Jeff Daniels, Reese Witherspoon and Toby Maguire is a very interesting movie. It is unlike anything that I have ever seen before. The plot is unbelievable at first, but then gets very interesting. OK, here's what happens. Two siblings (Witherspoon and Maguire) get trapped in a TV show from the 50's. These being 90's kids, they don't like it at first. Then they realize that the town is boring because everything is so perfect. After a while, they turn this black and white "Leave It To Beaver" town into a lively color town.
The premise is very good, and I liked it a lot.
My rating: 8 out of 10
A Night at the Roxbury (1998)
A stupid, but funny film
"A Night AT The Roxbury" is the kind of film you don't see in the theaters. It's a waste of 8 bucks! But I did and I was surprised. It was very funny at times, and at other times it was the stupidest movie I had ever seen.
Most of this movie is purely fun, and it is the story of two thick-headed, disco club lovin' brothers trying to SCORE! It is worth 2.50 to rent, so give it a try.
My rating: 6 out of 10
Sixteen Candles (1984)
A great 80's film that is very hilarious!
"Sixteen Candles", aka another 80's Molly Ringwald film, was very funny and had a great plot. I even liked it better than "Pretty in Pink." The characters were great; Sam, played by Molly, whose entire family forgot her b-day; her younger brother who is a trouble maker who has such funny lines; Sam's crush who already has a girlfriend; a desperate geek who wants to do it; and Sam's granparent's exchange student, a japenese kid who is a regular party animal!
This movie is a romantic comedy, but mostly a comedy! I laughed so hard at some parts, like when Sam's sister's shoe flies off and breaks a window, and when a very young Joan Cusack is trying to drink a soda out of a can. Joan Cusack has no lines, but is my favorite character by far!
This movie is so much of a good time, rent it to see what the 80's were about.
My review: 8.5 out of 10
The X Files (1998)
A great movie for any longtime fans
"The X Files" is a really good movie, for longtime fans it uncovers many conspiracies, and for first time viewers it's just fun and entertaining.
The special effects are great (those aliens were creepy!) and Mulder and Sculy both acted well.
My rating: 7 out of 10
Bride of Chucky (1998)
A creative horror film
You have got to give "Bride of Chucky" a little credit. I mean, the characters are original, the special effects are so so, and the story line is very creative. When I first saw this movie I liked it. Even though it was a little cheesy and unbelievable (I mean, how murderous can one little doll be? Stepping on him would bump him off.) but it was a lot of fun.
Jennifer Tilly is really funny as Tiffany (Chucky's bride) and it's fun seeing her being made into a doll. And given, some parts of this movie are comedy when meant to be horror. Most of this movie is pure camp, but at least it's fun camp!
My rating: 8 out of 10
Wild Things (1998)
A nasty, but fun, ride
"Wild Things" was a very intriguing, fun movie. Although the nudity and now infamous 3-way might have been a bit much for my likings, it still had plenty of twists and turns to keep 'ya guessing.
Neve Campbell, Denise Richard, Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon are all really good and the score to this movie is really great (I can't describe it.). Overall I liked this movie, and the way it showed the "not-shown" scenes during the credits.
Basically, my summary for the entire movie is that Neve Campbell looks horrible as a blond.
My rating: 8 out of 10
Pretty in Pink (1986)
An essential 80's movie
"Pretty in Pink" is an essential 80's movie. Given that I only saw it for the first time today... it still showed the 80's really well.
The plot was pretty good; a not so popular girl falls in love with a popular rich kid, and everything that happens along the way. Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy were both good, but I didn't really like Ducky. He didn't add much to the movie except for a geek factor!
Overall, this movie is really good, except I wanted to see the mean, rich girl get hers in the end!
My rating: 8 out of 10
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
A great and instant classic film
"Shakespeare In Love" is a great film-- funny and an instant classic. It tells the story of Romeo and Juliet, with Will as Romeo and Viola as Juliet. Will is stuck trying to think of a new play, and when he meets Viola (Gwyneth PaltroW) everything falls together. It is very romantic and very hilarious at times.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Joseph Phiennes, Ben Affleck and Judi Dench are all really great.. especially Paltrow. One of my favorite quotes is when Romeo is frantic about his play, and Philip Henslow says "The show must-" and Will says "Go on!"
All in all this is a great movie that very much deserved to win Best Picture.
My rating: 9 out of 10
Entrapment (1999)
Good thriller!
"Entrapment" is a really exciting thriller. Catherine Zeta Jones is really hot, and Sean Connery is a good leading man. The casting is a little off, but I won't argue with it.
The action and "laser" sequences are really good.. and the movie is a little confusing at times (especially at the end), but later i understood it.
Good movie, cast and effects.
My rating: 7 out of 10
Tarzan (1999)
A good movie anyone can enjoy
"Tarzan" was a really fun movie, for adults, teens or kids. Being a teen myself, I would usually go for the "She's All That", "Cruel Intentions" or "Scream" kinda movies, but the previews for "Tarzan" didn't look THAT bad. In comparison to the horror of "Pochahontes" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (which were both equally dreadful!) this one looked great. And I was right.
The plot is really good; action, romance, comedy, adventure, tenderness, it has it all. And the characters are all funny and creative- especially Tarzan, Jane and Tarzan's funny friend elephant (I forgot his name at the moment). Minnie Driver, Rosie 'O Donnel and Wayne Night (NEWMAN of Seinfeld!) did a great job with their voices.
The animation is truly amazing too. The 3D effects and computer generized stuff makes you say "wow" and there is such detail in the forest.
This movie is tons of fun.. one of Disney's best.
