New Life (I) (2023)

Tense
6 May 2024
I was fortunate to see New Life at the Florida Film Festival in April 2024. At first glance I saw there were no "names" attached but I'm glad this didn't stop me from seeing it.

John Rosman has crafted a tense thriller with a tight script and solid performances from the entire cast. A bounty hunter with ALS is tracking an otherwise innocent disease vector in the American Northwest.

The acting is excellent much, much better than I was expecting.

Thanks to thoughtful editing this film moves quickly to its chilling conclusion.

Don't miss this one as it could be the sleeper hit of the year. Bar none.

Better than you'ld think...

...from the low starred raters seen here. If the show is so bad why watch it? More like immature jerks who can't stand seeing a female in a strong role. Tension ratchets pretty high and some really good acting.

Artistic journey with art and humor.

The journey of a signature work of Andy Warhol. A story told with wit and humor, infectious and joyful, It's worth your time, whether you are an art lover or a fan of expertly made documentaries, this is a must-see film. Even if you saw it on HBO, see it again, you'll be glad you did.

Stars shine but script sags
16 June 2011
The purpose of birth is to die so why bother putting in any effort in life? A young doodling savant adopts this philosophy and decides, in his senior year of high school not to do homework. Freddy Highmore (George) appears as a semi-goth loner reading novels at the lunch table. We know he is interested in a popular girl Sally, charmingly played by Emma Roberts. She invites him to her table at lunchtime and asks to be friends. Dustin (Michael Angarano) a feckless established artist plays an entirely charming twist is George's artistic and romantic life. The story develops episodically into a series of events and observations.

George experiences a series of adventures put upon him which give him a social life and a new reason to avoid his parents (Rita Wilson, Sam Rockwell.) Will friendship turn to love? Will George ever progress from drawing to painting? Will he graduate high school? Through his adventures answers will come but not always to his satisfaction.

Don't miss it, unpredictable, funny and chilling.
12 July 1999
This one has it all, laughs and chills. This movie has more funny lines than the average chiller all delivered with conviction. The story is actually plausible and Steve Miner's direction is top notch for this type of film. Brigit Fonda, Bill Pullman and Oliver Platt turn in their usual fine performances. Single funniest line in the movie delivered by Betty White. Yes, that Betty White. If you were going to skip this movie because you thought you knew what was going to happen, don't. You won't be sorry.
