Pride and Prejudice (1980)
Terrible!
This version of P&P is the worst I have ever seen! I love the BBC 1995 version with Colin Firth, and the older Greer Garson one is good too. But this one looks like a "reasonable high-school play" not a tv production. The characters look like they are just reading their lines, with hardly any feeling. Not worth watching.
SeaChange (1998)
so realistic!!
I got hooked on Seachange halfway through the first series, so I had to go and buy the whole set just so I could watch it all. I identify with "Miranda" and my mum is so very similar to "Laura". I adore the series now, and can't wait for the third installment. The characters range from very smart to quite stupid, and all are very funny. The best bit is that most situations are very realistic. Not all, and not always, but most.
I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Brides of Christ (1991)
Very Interesting and Moving
I really enjoyed 'Brides of Christ'. I first saw it a few years ago when I had to study it at school, and even though you are not really supposed to enjoy school texts I liked it. I have since watched it several times. The film which is really a short series gives you an insight into the director's version of how nuns and Catholics lived in the 60s. I actually liked nuns for nearly the first time (I liked them in Sound of Music).
The actors are excellent, and the movie gives you a wonderful cross-section of styles of people that are portrayed. I understand that this film caused a bit of trouble because of its views, and the fact that it deals with some sensitive issues, but it is well worth watching. It deals with 'ordinary person' issues as well as Catholic ones. I would recommend it to just about anyone.
Cruel Intentions (1999)
Great Movie
I have seen many movies, and I just love the twists and turns of this one. I have not seen the movie it was based on, but I plan to. The casting was great, I will never be able to see Buffy as innocent again! Very sexy. Worth watching.
Rainbow Brite (1984)
Childhood Memories
I loved Rainbow Brite all through childhood, I loved the colours, the characters and the music. I wish it hadn't died away, and that it was easier to find now-a-days.
Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991)
Not As Good
I loved the original version, well, the 1980 original version, and I found this to be basically a copy which wanted to cash in on the success of the first. The theme was basically the same, with unnecessary violence added in.
The Blue Lagoon (1980)
Everyone's Fantasy
When you were a kid, didn't you ever dream that you would get stuck on a tropical island?? Well this movie lives the fantasy. I think that it is a great movie, with an interesting ending. The actors chosen fit the roles very well, and I will continue to watch the movie many times over again.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995)
I think it's great!
Well I am a trekkie, and I like the series. I like having a female captain who has to (and does) make strong decisions. I like the way that strange episodes pop up every now and again which often keep you guessing how they're going to end right up to the last few minutes.
The only character I don't especially like is the Borg female, who likes like she's only been added for sex appeal. The rest of the show is great.
Back to the Future Part II (1989)
Good Movie!
I love all three of the "Back to the Future" movies. I used to dislike this one when I was young, because I didn't like Biff being rich & powerful. But then I started to appreciate the complex nature of the film in particular. This one has bits from the first and third movie in it, with double characters all over the place. It's very well done, especially for it's time! Great movie!
Twister (1996)
I thought it was great!!
I thought the movie "Twister" was excellent. I love the thrill of the chase, and the theme of the movie. The special effects were pretty good, and the footage of twisters...wonderful!!! I have seen it ten thousand times, and love it each time. So what if it isn't 100% realistic. Who believed in everything that was presented in the Terminator movies?? Films don't have to be real to be enjoyable.
I thought the acting was terrific, and I liked the fact that it takes many viewings to decide how many people there are in the storm-chasing party, and even longer to work out all their names. I've heard that there is a sequel being made, and I look forward to it.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
Love it!
This is one of my all-time favourite movies. The acting is terrific, the story amazing and very very powerful. Everyone I know loves this movie, it is the best!! Robin Williams is a very moving actor, and the "boys" are excellent too.
