Law & Order: Under God (2003)
Better than average
For an episode later in the series, this one is a pretty decent. It's nice to see Detective Briscoe relating to the father of a young boy who whose death was caused by a drug dealer, even though that father is a prime suspect to the crime. The father's loss sparks memories for Detective Briscoe whose daughter was killed in connection with her involvement with drugs six years before. It was interesting to see that the personal nature of the investigation didn't effect how Briscoe treated it. For once, I enjoyed the investigation portion of the episode more than the trial. The trial portion of the episode showed how Jack McCoy feels about the higher powers that be. In the end, you learn about his friend named Tommy who may have inspired Jack's feelings on the matter.
Sorority Boys (2002)
I was pleasantly surprised!
After reading several comments on Sorority Boys, I prepared myself for a really lame gross-out comedy with plenty of dick and fart jokes and a wide array of breasts. Fortunately I was very much wrong! While the movie does have a couple of moments that reminded me of There's Something About Mary and more than a couple boob shots, it was all done in good fun. I never once had the urge to look at my watch and found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. It was great to see how typical guys would react to being in a woman's shoes (physically and emotionally) and maybe learn a little something about how they should treat a woman in return. All in all, it was a feel-good comedy, and by the end of the movie you saw a lot of character development. I can't say that I have made a *completely* unbiased evaluation of the movie, because my main motivation for seeing it was a certain Sexy Lexy of televisions "Smallville", but all in all I found it well worth my six dollars and hour and a half. However, I don't recommend that *everyone* go see it. There are many people who are far too critical of movies and don't believe that they can be just for fun (you know who you are) but think they should have some deep philosophical meaning. If you're one of THOSE people don't go see this movie!! For those of you who can enjoy a movie at face value (and then some in this case) go check it out! And if you're interested in seeing adorable shots of the main cast in drag, stay for the credits!! I gave it a 9 out of 10.
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Disappointed and offended
Although I'm not a fan of the previous Planet of the Apes movies (I've never seen them), I was pretty excited about seeing this remake/sequel.
Unfortunately, I was very much unimpressed with what I viewed. The special effects were great, the scenery was realistic, and the cast seemed to be very talented (opinion not based on this movie). However, they were lacking in one MAJOR department: the script! As someone said before, I agree that you and a bunch of your friends could have written a better screenplay for the movie than these talented, well-paid writers did.
There were many interesting directions this movie *could* have taken and didn't. I noticed that in the beginning of the movie, the woman scientist on the spaceship mentions that with chimps the female is dominant sexually. Of course, this led me to think; `What an interesting twist to the movie! The female apes could be really domineering instead of the males!' But instead the comment seemed to hold no relevancy to the rest of the film whatsoever! It turns out there were hardly any female apes at all, and those were hardly very aggressive.
Maybe I shouldn't have gone to see the movie with such high hopes for a great flick, but I did. I am officially insulted at spending good money on a film that seemed to have lots of possibility but no delivery. For those of you who haven't seen the movie and plan to, my advice to you is to go into the movie with lowered expectations and maybe you'll appreciate it more than I did.
5 out of 10
Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel (1987)
After 14 years of viewing - Still great!!
I know I could never choose between Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, because in my mind they're just one long epic on the life of Anne Shirley.
This story is so incredibly amazing. Not only does it give you the heartbreak of growing up and changing, but also Anne's unique personality that prevents her from fitting in, and the agony of Gil and Anne's "will they or won't they?" It's what's kept me watching all these years, knowing I can still relate to some aspect of it.
I always thought the acting was absolutely wonderful all around! Megan Follows and all the others really become their onscreen characters. The costumes make me wish that *I* had lived back in the 1900's. My only problem with the movie is the middle. I find myself bored with Anne's romance with Morgan. I'm sure most people want her to be with Gilbert anyway, and I would have liked it if the movie could have concentrated more on that.
I never really warmed to any of the characters in Kingsport. The movie would have done better to concentrate of Avonlea, or at least make that more of the focal point of the movie.
Still, the movie is wonderful, and I would recommend it to anyone! Anne's character is most lovable, as well as Diana, Gilbert, Marilla and even Mrs. Lynde.
My rating: 10!!
