Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991)
Good fluff
My dad rented this movie for me when I was little because it had horses in it, so he knew I would love it (which is true). I will admit, it is kind of sappy at some points, but all-in-all it is such a great movie about overcoming almost impossible odds by being totally stubborn. As I've grown older, I grown to really connect with this movie because, like Sonora, I am incredibly stubborn. All to often, heroines in movies get what they want by being submissive, pain-in-the-butt hippie-liberals, using thier looks, or mouthing off a la gangsta chicks. Never before had a seen a herione who was just completely stubborn and keeps kicking her own butt to prove herself to...herself. I still get chills at the final dive.....
Queen of the Damned (2002)
"Based on the novel by Anne Rice"..um.. no..i dont think so
i am a huge fan of the chronicles, and was stoked to hear of this thing and followed it for about a year and a half. after i began reading the script and hearing what people (who had attended the auditions) said of the script they read from, i began to get worried. by the time WB decided to get off their as....laurels and put stuff out, i was down-right scared to go to the premeire. the only thing i liked about the movie was some of the costumes (mainly, the un-identified pandora and some of lestat's), there were one or two funny lines, the concert scene (one of my friends was sixth row centre), and the music. the rest was horrible!!!! i watched it later and looked at it as a movie itself...no book...just movie. it was still horrible. though flawless, the effects were cheesy, i still dont know what kind of accent akasha was doing, and the rest of the lines were camp enough to make ed wood wince in pain.
Le violon rouge (1998)
Beautiful film
I had never heard of this movie until I heard about it on the radio. I listen to classical music, and the staion was praising Joshua Bell (an ohio native) on his perfomance of the music. I was curious and saw it when it came on video. not only did i fall in love with the movie itself, but also the music. it was soothing, passionate, and brutal all at the same time. Many people I have talked to have said that Le Violon Rouge was just some crappy indie movie. However, the music is as beautiful as the plot. The storyline and the way it was presented in the form of different people who wanted the violin for different reasons was not so much genius, but different and fitting.
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)
What a great moive!!
I saw this movie when it first came out in 1994; i was 11. I fell in love, but not with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as many of my friends pointed out. For some reason, this movie seemed really great, beautiful, to use the phrase. Even though i was only 11, i understood all the in-jokes for adults and the struggle Claudia felt (by-the-way, two thumbs up for her perfomance).
TO fully appreciate this movie, one must disregaurd all the prattle that Bram Stoker first gave to read. Anne Rice is not Bram Stoker and thus does not write her books or the screen play as he would. She gives her readers a new vampire to learn about and even perhaps come to love in the process.
This movie inspired me to read the rest of the Vampire Chronicles and to bite my nails to see The Queen of the Damned, due out in 2001.
Labyrinth (1986)
The movie for Theatre people
I have just rediscovered this movie last month after many years of absence. I now own the soundtrack and a student in contact juggling (the whole thing with the crystal globes and all). I bought the soundtrack in the midst of being in a show and played it in the dressing room; a dozen girls ranging in ages of 8 to 17 dancing around singing "dance magic dance" while putting on grease paint is a very amusing sight. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to have a really good time. You have comedy, muppets, music, and even a touch of romance all rolled up into this film. It is great!!!
