What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? (1999)
Beautiful, but not NICE. Great sequel to 'Once were Warriors'.
A great movie. It's not a nice movie, but it's well made and interesting, exciting and scary. A look into the small, poverty-stricken, gang-ruled part of New Zealand. Jake the muss is paying for his 'crimes' and learns what life is really all about. Exciting, scary fight scenes; beautifully made, passionate love scenes; - this movie has it all. Great acting by Temuera Morrison (Speed 2, Barbed Wire, 6 days 7 nights, Once were Warriors, Shortland street), Nancy Brunning (Shortland Street), and Rena Owen (Grease: the Arena Spectacular, Once were Warriors). A powerful, emotional movie - see it. Definately compares to it's prequel.
Across the Ditch (1998)
Lame-o! The only good bit is that it shows Australians as they really are!
Really lame! TV show in which New Zealanders must travel to Australia and show them a little bit of Kiwiana (or NZ culture). Really very mundane with people having to sing Kiwi songs, sell kiwi souvenirs (in the middle of Sydney) and dance kiwi songs. Very lame. The only good thing is the Ozzies on the show. Boy, are they thick! Shows the true Australian.
Spice World: The Game (1998)
For the dance genre and Spice fans - It's great! Hot music, chicks, moves
If you'd like to go behind the camera, behind the scenes, or get behind the Spice Girls you'll want this game. You're able to move the girls, mix the music, shoot the video and see what the Spice Girls are really like! For all you Spice Girls, Spielberg and Fat Boy Slim wannabes!
Spice World (1997)
It converted me! Even anti-Spices can find humour and entertainment!
I wasn't a Spice fan until after I'd seen the movie. Originally I went for a laugh (and boy, did I laugh!) but I've become a hard out Spice Girl fan! There are so many cameos, puns, inside jokes, and advanced jokes, it really is wasted on children (no matter how much they say they enjoyed it!). Me and my friend were guffawing along for almost the whole way. From the hilariously advanced one-liners to the stupidest dialogues - it will keep you in hysterics. The acting may be worse than on other movies, but the costuming, humour, action and music of these 5 (now 4) girls will catch your attention (and your heart). I now own both their cds, a few singles, dozens of posters and books, and of course the video! Spice up ya life and see it! See ya at Albert Hall!
Body Melt (1993)
Gory, yet funny, Sick, yet entrancing, a good first look at Australians....
The second funniest horror/comedy I have ever seen, second only to Kiwi flick Dead Alive (aka Brain Dead). Special effects are corny, yet very well done. The plot isn't too involving, but doesn't fall apart and can be followed with ease. Great portrayal of your average Australian. Basically there's this company that tests it's hazardous products on a new neighbourhood causing havoc. Genitals explode, rednecks shove sticks up people, and pregnant women burst open and their placentas attack people. Superb! 8/10.
Braindead (1992)
Superbly gory! Utterly hilarious! This is as good as it gets! SCARY!
The number 1 horror/comedy ever! And arguably New Zealand's best film. This spoofy film will make you wet yourself non-stop (with laughter and fear)! A purposely cheesy film in which a man finds himself battling his zombified family and community to save his girlfriend. Great special effects, cheesy jokes and gory moments make for an unforgettable movie. You'll laugh till you cry. Especially worth seeing for you Kiwis with cameos noone else will recognise. So - get the popcorn ready and watch out for flying ducks, needles, monkeys, ears in your custard, and big, fat, naked mothers who want to send you back where you came from - their womb!
Bad Taste (1987)
Great kiwi horror spoof/comedy! Have to see it to believe it! Great SFX!
Not quite as good as Jackson's other great film - 'Brain Dead' but still good. Will make you squirm non-stop. Aliens take over a small New Zealand town in their quest to rule the world (intentionally cheesy) but don't count on the power of one very crazy and very powerful (especially with a chainsaw!) kiwi. Heads splitting open and brains flying out to be eaten by seagulls, spikes being driven through legs and various other gory events will make your stomach turn. But it is essentially a sci-fi/horror spoof and it's main goal is to make you laugh. Taking four years to make, you won't forget it ever! All I can say is - "Watch out, all you sheep!"
