Open Range (2003)
The best Western movie since High Noon!!!
Outstanding portrail by Robert Duval and Kevin Costner of 2 cattlemen trying to live and drive their cattle across the wide open western grasslands. They encounter danger in the form of a despot who controls the area and town they attempt to get new provisions from. The story is not new to the screen. But, the cinematography, scenery, acting and actors are outstanding. A must see for all fans of the genre.
Maid in Manhattan (2002)
Corny, predictable, nevertheless an entertaining movie!
I didn't think I would like this movie. But I must admit that it is well made, colorful and well acted. Bob Hoskins and Stanley Tucci really add terrific performances to a very predictable story that parallels The story of Cinderella and/or Pretty Woman. Jenifer Lopez is creditable as the Hispanic maid who gets to live her dream until her true life is cruelly exposed. Ray Fienes has done better work, and seems a little bit out acted by Tucci and Hopkins. All in all a light enjoyable, entertaining movie.
Sweet November (1968)
One of the best
I only saw this movie one time and that was when it was first released, over 30 years ago. But this movie was such a sweet yet bitter sweet movie that I have never forgotten it. The story was so powerful that it has lasted in my memory for 3 decades. Maybe it was because it was the kind of love that i longed for; one that is total and complete. Then ends never to be found again.
Return to Me (2000)
Dreams can come true
A wonderful movie for almost everyone (except for some adult language). Good comedy/love story that will leave you warm and happy and with no doubts that you have spent a worthwhile 2 hours at the movies. Even a few tears of joy thrown in for good measure. Minnie Driver sparkles along with good performances by Frank Loggia, Carrol O'Connor, Jim Belushy and Bonne Hunt. This film was done in our neighborhood last summer and it was worth the interuption. It was a wonderful evening at the movies.
American Beauty (1999)
very well done, but very disturbing, movie about life in suburbia.
This movie was wonderfully presented. The casting, acting, photography, editing, etc., were outstanding. Nevertheless, this was a disturbing theme. The characters were each on a downward spiral into oblivion. No one wins in this story, including the audience.
The General's Daughter (1999)
beautifully filmed,entertaining drama.
don't be influenced by the film critics on this one. this movie has a superior cast; is wonderfully shot and edited, with an engaging plot line. john travolta really gives a great deal of realism to his character, aided by a fine supporting cast. the suspense of "whodunnit" is present until the last 5 minutes of this film and then blasts you away in the final scene. see it; it's worth the price of admission.
Entrapment (1999)
terrific flic with 2 entertaining stars out doing themselves to keep our attention and on the edge of our seats.
sean connery is the most engaging rascal on today's screen. new comer catherine zeta-jones is a great foil for sean. the two of them add a wonderful comedy touch to a james bond type adventure, with a diabolical twist at the end.
