Somewhere, Tomorrow (1983)
Caught this on a weekend on FOX...
If you're a SJP fan, you'll probably like this film. I really like her, but the film itself was pretty weak.
It was hilarious to see all the bad 80's fashion that I was right there in the middle of during the same time! SJP was good in it, but it didn't make a lot of sense till the ending. Definitely a cute fantasy movie. Nice for a lazy weekend. I might buy it if I found it in the clearance rack somewhere.
I had a problem with Lori's really, really nasty feelings about her mom getting remarried changing so fast. She ran out and hugged her after a 2 minute conversation with Terry. That's a little quick for a teen to get over such an upset.
If you get the chance to see it, stick with it till the end to see SJP sing a song in the hospital. It's pretty cute.
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Come on, guys, it's a kid movie, not 007!!!
I am disappointed in everyone who voted negatively against this
movie. I hadn't seen it in the theater, but saw Dana Carvey on The
View talking about it, so I rented it. He said he wrote it for 8 year
old kids! Come on, guys, it's AWESOME for that age group. In fact,
my 4 year old and 7 year old LOVED it! They watched it 7 times in
5 days! (Please don't take offense at this, I don't usually let them
watch that much TV, but they really loved it. I probably won't buy it
for that very reason!) My 4 year old son still quotes Pistachio all the
time and just laughs and laughs! He keeps asking, "Mom,
remember that part in "Masters of the Sky"?" So, all you people
who are dissing this movie, just stop it! Go analyze dramas and
thrillers and leave the great people who are making good kid
movies alone!
Solarbabies (1986)
One of my favorites when I was a kid!
My dad had a strange habit of taping all 48 hours of the free HBO
weekends when I was a kid. Fortunately for me, that's how I found
some of my favorite films! When I'd stay home from school with
the flu, I'd sift through the tapes and watch whatever caught my
eye. After I saw this one, it became my regular "sick day" film and
one I'd watch any time I was just hanging around on a rainy
afternoon. I remember I loved it because it was about kids doing
something about their problems and making the situation better -
heck, they saved the world! That's the kind of film every kid likes!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Swab the deck, I'm comin' aboard!
Honestly, can a movie with two amazingly gorgeous men like
Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom be bad? On top of that, there's a
great story, awesome effects, hilarious comedy, and a love story.
What more could you want? A horrendous villain who gets what
he deserves in the end? A valiant rescue or two or three? You got
it! This is one I will buy on DVD as soon as it comes out!!! I give it
a 10 out of 10!
Mystery Men (1999)
Comic genius at its best!
Caution: These comments reveal minor details about characters - not much about plot - no spoilers, whatsoever!
The fact that I hadn't ever read the comic "Mystery Men" didn't make any difference to me when I walked into the theater. All of the friends that were with me seeing MM are really into comics, so they kind of knew what was coming. I only knew a little about the movie from television ads, but knew I loved all the actors, so was expecting a great show to begin with.
I was not at all let down!
This movie is packed with awesome one-liners, slapstick, and great actors to pull it all off. Janeane Garofalo as the Bowler is awesome, as in anything she does. Ben Stiller is HiLaRiOuS as Mr. Furious - the guy who doesn't really have much of a super power as much as he has a super ego. William H. Macy is a gag - very straight-laced and serious with some great lines. Paul Reubens - well, he's just disgusting, and it works! Hank Azaria - can this man do everything? He's so awesome as the Blue Raja - back and forth between the effete British super hero and the whimpy American middle-aged son living at home with Mom.
I laughed and laughed and laughed. I still laugh every time I watch the VHS copy I bought because I can't get enough of this movie. It will be a cult classic - at least to me and my group of super friends!
People who didn't like this movie took it too seriously. You can't worry about camera angles and such when watching this kind of movie. It wasn't meant to be critiqued in that way. Just chill and enjoy!
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Somewhat funny, weird movie...
I guess if I had to say if I liked or disliked this movie, I'd say I liked it. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. I mean, it was about 45 minutes too long, but Kirstie Alley is always a treat. I really liked Kirsten Dunst, too. I don't think men would enjoy it at all. It is basically a mockumentary of a teen beauty pageant. The funniest moment is when the town idiot is behind his brother (a pageant judge) asking repeatedly, "Are we on COPS? Are we on COPS?" Ellen Barkin is also very good in it. If there's nothing else to rent and nothing on TV, give it a try. It's a good one to watch while playing a board game or folding laundry. You don't have to really WATCH it to get it.
The Goonies (1985)
One of my all-time favorites!!!
This movie, for me, is the epitome of childhood adventure. It's every kid's dream to go hunting for treasure - along with being chased by a bad guy that you'll repeatedly outsmart. It has laughs, love, adventure, thrills, and much more.
I probably have such a connection to the film because I saw it when I was 12. I think you keep movies you love as a kid close to your heart for your whole life.
It's Like, You Know... (1999)
I am really beginning to like this show, but the title's GOT to go.
Of course, you have to take into account that I'm a huge Jennifer Grey fan and I really like AJ Langer. The first time I saw this show I thought it was horrible. I've since given it another chance and I really like it. It's quirky, funny, and interesting.
Better Off Dead... (1985)
The funniest movie I own.
I love this movie. Truly a pick-me-up when I need one. Feels just like high school was...only not as bad. Makes me feel better about my high school days! A good one for a large group.
