Luck (2003)
Go Russia! ;)
20 June 2004
I really liked this movie and will buy it for sure when it comes out on DVD. It was funny, touching, and then funny again all throughout the film. The performances were great, there were so many great lines and I LOVED the ending!!

It is just too bad that this fully Canadian made film had such poor publicity (a few commercials during the hockey games) and poor distribution in Canada. What is wrong with this country? We seem to only want to celebrate our talent that has made it in the USA - and totally ignore the great talent we have working up here. It is a total shame, and doesn't make things look hopeful for the mounds of aspiring actors, directors and writers that want to live and work in the industry up here.

This movie was great - and more enjoyable than a lot of the big budget Hollywood hype I've seen lately. I really really hope it finds a following on Video and DVD when it eventually gets released to this market.

Rented Lips (1987)
Horrrrrible!
6 November 2003
Whenever anyone asks me about the worst movie I've ever seen - I ALWAYS say, "Rented Lips." Thankfully, these lucky people never know what I'm talking about. I only saw this because I'm a fan of Downey Jr's... and much like the Ally McBeal saga was - no matter how much of a fan I am of his, there are some things I just can't sit through.

This film is just bad... I don't remember if it was Downey Sr's directing, or Jennifer Tilly's existence, or the fact that Martin Mull was in it AND wrote it (look at all these warning signs.. and I still decided to watch)... I just remember how much I couldn't believe that it actually got made... Thus reaffirming my belief that ANYONE can make a movie these days.

Save yourself folks... Even if you're Downey Jr fans... If you want to sit through a bad Downey Jr movie, go rent Two Girls And A Guy.. at least you'll get some singin, dancin, Shakespeare and great acting in that one.

Trust (1990)
brilliance

I love this movie. The writing, directing, acting... Love it all. It is slightly out of the box.. Coloring just beyond the lines. It takes place in a time that seems real on the surface, but it is also evident that this is in no world we've ever been in... I have no idea how else to describe it. This movie is quite funny. not laugh-track funny.. There is an underlying humor throughout the film (largely brought out by Martin Donovan's excellent performance).. some of the funniest scenes are with Matthew and his father. Give the movie a try. It isn't for everyone. I know many who found it boring, or didn't get why its listed as a comedy. It's too bad really, because they're missing out on a really great film.

There actually was a beginning middle and end to this installment. They just constructed it differently. But it had the basics - Intro, Conflict, Resolution.. Intro to the future, Conflict being Biff and the adventure it took to stop him, and Resolution - stopping Biff, and burning the almanac. The difference with this film, is that after it ended - it started again with Doc getting zapped away, knowing there would be a third installment... Like the show Quantam Leap - It always ended with the beginning of next week's show. That is what this movie did.. We're just not used to seeing movies do this, so many people don't "get it". Personally, I think its great :-)

As for humor- This sequel may not have been "funnier", but it's obvious it wasn't supposed to be. It told a story, and if you sit back and forget about the fact that none of this could ever happen - It's fun throwing logic out the window for a few hours, and pretending it all could. I thought it was well done for a fantasy story, and had a lot of "meat." it was constantly moving, where the first one flowed nicely but had no reason to be as complex.. This movie was a lot quicker, and I guess that confused some people? ah well... it worked for me. If you love the concept and story of the first, this one is a treat.

For everyone who didn't like this movie, because it was unrealistic or what have you, I feel kinda sorry for you. You've really missed the point. I think the true story here is about a father and the love he has for his family. He wasnt making the tragedy laughable (for those who said that).. He was trying to protect his son from an even greater pain, and going to whatever lengths he had to, to make that happen. He was trying to make it laughable to his son, all the while knowing how unlaughable it really was. Yeah, maybe in reality that would have been impossible too back then.. But a documentary wasn't trying to be made here. Its a story, obviously leaning on the side of fantasy... and after watching it, I couldnt help but get the sense of feeling its too bad we all don't have someone in our lives who loves us that much.

But, hey thats just my opinion.. I think everyone who must pick apart every movie bit by bit, really needs to lighten up.

Tack you Cack
18 November 1999
Well.. I'm a 'chick' and.. I love this movie! Its been a fave of mine for a long time now. If you're the kind of person that doesnt take things too seriously, you'll probably like this movie (or maybe not. who knows). Its super cheesy, and constantly makes fun of itself and its characters. The scene stealer of the movie, was Tack for sure. Which I'm sure any other fan of the movie can agree with me on. Tack holds many inside jokes for my best friend and I... and to this day whenever either my best friend or I have a new man in our lives.. our response to the other is always "allright! get you soooome!" ;-) ... If you're too stuck up to get the goofy humor of this movie.. get drunk and watch it or something... you just might laugh :-)

Labyrinth (1986)
Love it!
18 November 1999
I had totally forgotten about this movie. I watched it endlessly when I was little, had the soundtrack, and would dance around my room to it *lol*. Then, a couple weeks ago I saw it for sale at a store for $12.99.. Im practically broke, but it was the last copy.. and I'd never seen it for sale before so I HAD to get it! Well, I watched it again... and again.. and again. I have to agree with everyone here... This movie rocks. There is a lot of sarcastic humor in it that flew over my head when I was younger.. and I dont care what anyone says, but for 1986.. The effects and make-up etc were pretty darn good. I think we've all gotten used to all our fancy computer special effects, and its spoiled us. At the end of the movie, there was a special "Behind the scenes footage" included.... and just seeing how they made and brought Hoggle to life amazed me. I think partially because, after a while, you forget that Hoggle isnt real (sorry, he's my fave in this movie!). So seeing them 'build' him I guess amazed, and saddened me a little.. you know, a reality check ;-). Anywho... A lot of hard work went into this movie.. and its too bad that still so many DON'T know about it, or do, but don't appreciate it. :P

Quirky.. I love it
15 July 1999
Don't care what anyone says.. I love this movie! Twas the movie that got me hooked on Steve Buscemi many the year ago... Its odd, quirky, and cheesy-on-purpose. If you go into it expecting that.. You'll probably like it more. I dunno.. This is an all time fave of mine, and a lot of it has to do with the quirkiness of it (I like 'out-of-the-norm' movies.. especially comedies). If yer a Steve fan or not.. Check this movie out for some fun laughs :-)

Classic!

This is one of the cutest movies ever! It's funny in that child-like way.. But also has a ton of sarcastic humor that flew over my head when I was little... I love it! Paul Reubens is genius.. tis all I gotta say. Never once do you look at Pee-Wee and think he's an actor.. and even if you try, its so hard to believe. Anyone who could be that convincing deserves like 50 awards ;-) Anyway.. This movie is hilarious.. I urge you to all go see it now if you havent yet!!
