When the monster was speaking the subtitles were simply "speaking Romanian", but it wasn't Romanian at all!

Pointless
basi_bsm27 March 2019
Basically I think this episode was pointless. Anime and theses things were ok. It may amazed you, but thats it.

Filler episode
SHLED9525 March 2019
This episode genuinely felt like filler, to me. It follows a very simple storyline with an abrupt and open ending. It feels... unfinished?

I'd skip this.

Edit: I do want to add that even the action isn't too impressive, although others may enjoy this episode simply because of the art style.

Cat Protection League
southdavid8 April 2019
I've decided to review each of the short films that make up this series individually.

Whilst undertaking an archaeological dig, Dr Wehunt (voiced by Michael Benyaer) discovers the tomb of Dracula and unfortunately awakens its sole inhabitant. With his small group of mercenaries he desperately tries to escape the catacombs before finding an unlikely reprieve in the form of a stray cat.

Much more traditional pencil animation this time, so not the technical marvel that some of the other episodes are, that said it's a fun short with a couple of interesting supporting characters and an engaging premise. It does, as others have said, end rather abruptly and in an unsatisfying way and I would have liked to see this one run for another 15 minutes or so to expand on the world a little more.

But yeah, OK whilst it lasted.

Catacombs of doom.

'Sucker Of Souls (2019)' has a distinct, rough-around-the-edges aesthetic and decidedly hand-drawn 2D animation. It's a generic 'mercenaries vs monsters' story but it's still pacy, propulsive and suspenseful. It has splashes of explicit gore which compound its ever-present threat. It also keeps moving, only slightly slowing down after an in media res opening, and it's always enjoyable. Plus, its bleak ending doesn't try to reframe anything. 7/10

I really liked the animation. It was genuinely funny as well. I just struggled to get invested in the story, it felt very difficult to take the stakes seriously (pun intended).

No robots
Del_Wares18 March 2019
And where are the robots in this one? Otherwise it's quite fun, action-horror.

Episode is misunderstood
mikedcortright10 June 2019
The fact that most people are complaining about a lack of robots, shows that they completely missed the point of the show.

Don't let this deter you from the episode.

Warning: Spoilers
This one was forgettable at best. There were clichés all over the place and the ending was just abrupt and lazy in all honesty. You'd think that with a show full of shorts, the writers would be a bit more adventurous. At least the dialogue at times was good but other than that this was just not very good at all

Endings Make or Break an Episode
zdflanders8 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
When you kill off all the characters just to conclude a story, the plot comes off as very weak. I was pretty intrigued until this point and then the whole episode felt poorly written. The characters were also pretty irritating but Dracula was cool.

Guys...
gregdiakonov16 September 2020
People here complain this episode is a filler, that it has lots of cliches, no sense behind it and stuff and stuff. I seriously don't get them. I am actually grateful this episode was not about some deep thought, because, please, even this very thought may be a massive cliche (yes, Sonnie's edge and Good hunting, I am looking at you). Other than that, this episode has a great art-style, which works for a creepy atmosphere.

The monster doesn't speak Romanian... Well, if you're Romanian and you care about historical accuracy, scuze. Anyways, Vlad III Tepes also wasn't a vampire, so...

To other people, don't skip. Just enjoy an episode which doesn't even attempt to teach you something trem-mendously imp-p-portant.

You can't outrun death
tee-tab8 September 2021
Wonderful episode adding some fresh new value to the enormous vampire-genre.

I would love to see this as a longer movie.

The reviewer that wrote it reminded her/him of Todd McFarlane's Spawn is right.

As a Romanian I feel insulted

Warning: Spoilers
The episode was alright, but when the "monster" was speaking it was pure gibberish, pathetic really. You could not find someone that spoke proper Romanian?

Childish but fun.

Warning: Spoilers
Lets be real here. That monster wouldn't have had a dick if they didn't want a scene where it gets shot off.

Quirky and funny at moments, juvenile at others, this is far from the worst episode in the LDR series, but I'm still not a huge fan. Vampires don't really fit with the rest of the episodes, but I won't hold that against this episode.

I'm actually a fan of the animation style, and I'd watch more from this team.

Don't get the hate
noechavezag22 March 2019
I strongly believe this episode is amazing. I'm not particularly a fan of anime but I did love the animation, the style and the blood. There's no robots? So what? There's a gay love story there and two very nice deaths

Why is this part of the anthology?
billudeva9 April 2019
I'm 5 episodes of amazing work in and then I get to this. It feels like something written by a teenager as "my first horror anime". Totally predictable and boring. The script is cliche, the voice acting is bad/mediocre and the story is utterly boring. The only good point is the animation. While I'm not a fan of the low frame rate style animation, the character design was good. That's pretty much the only good thing about this episode. As part of the Love Death Robots anthology, it falls absolutely flat on its face.

A short film with good animation, a story that caught my attention with the necessary ingredients and best of all: The Cats!

The first poor episode
muamba_eats_toast16 April 2019
Bland and boring with little creativity both visually and storyline from beginning to end the script in particular was more horrifying than any vampire could be.

By far the weakest episode of LDR
bulutsakchak30 May 2019
I really don't understand how this story made it to the show. Animation was nothing special, characters are more like stereotypical caricatures, ending was beyond terrible. Twilight was a better vampire story in my opinion.

Comic Book Charm
injury-654479 September 2020
This episode is ridiculously underrated! I thought it was beautiful, charming, cheeky and fun. Like a comic book come to life. Although silly, the cat humour did work for me in this one.

I absolutely adored the death scene of the young Korean research archaeologist - it was so well crafted.

Feels like generic cookie-cutter anime
calvinharris_fan22 May 2020
Ignoring the fact that this episode has nothing to do with love, robots and very little to do with death, Sucker of Souls is a short that doesn't go anywhere other than a ridiculously basic plot that would get nerdy teenagers seething. It just starts and ends without any substance between it. Skip this.
