Journalist and talk show host Tamron Hall is officially in the writing process for the TV adaptation of her mystery crime-thriller series, “As the Wicked Watch.” The books follow a reporter as she tries to crack the case behind the mysterious deaths of two young Black women who were murdered by a serial killer in Chicago.
“It is off and running. I wish I could tell you more, but wow. I am blown away by where we are,” Hall told TheWrap, adding that she’s also building out her writers’ room. “We’re working on an epic partnership with a writer who is just phenomenal … you will know the writer’s work.”
The “Tamron Hall” star explained that the most important attribute for someone joining her creative team is to thoroughly understand the series’ lead character Jordan Manning, as well as the crime genre in general.

Disney is continuing to bet on Tamron Hall.
The entertainment giant says that it has renewed Hall’s eponymous daytime talk show for a sixth season, with both ABC’s local TV stations and ABC stations owned by Hearst, Scripps, Nexstar, Tegna, Gray and Amg on board.
Hall, a former anchor for MSNBC and NBC’s Today show, left the company in 2017 and launched her talk show in 2019. The show has had success at Disney (the company notes that it is the second-longest running talk show it has produced), and last scored a renewal in 2021, when it nabbed a two-season pickup.
“Tamron and team are a singular force in daytime because the show gets to the core of humanity through meaningful connection and thoughtful conversations whether covering the most-talked-about issues of the day or interviewing the newsmakers shaping our world,” said ABC News president Kim Godwin in a statement. “We...

A month after they got back to work and started airing post-wga strike originals, early late night returns show good news for Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert — while in daytime, Kelly Clarkson’s move to New York was a winning strategy in its first week of new episodes.
Talk shows were among the first original programs to return to air following the resolution of the Writers Guild of America strike, with the late night shows all returning the week of Oct. 2 after a five-month hiatus. With the shows back now a month, ABC is touting that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has won the first four weeks of the season among adults 18-49 — and that four consecutive week streak marks the show’s longest at No. 1 in the demo since more than a year ago.

The billionaire media mogul is ready to drop some serious cash to get his hands on ABC, whenever Disney decides the time is ripe.
Disney has owned the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) for 27 years now. Whether that relationship continues to the 30-year mark or not seems in serious doubt nowadays, as Disney has signaled it’s willing to sell the channel and its other linear assets to funnel its TV offerings more actively through its streaming platforms Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney is looking to unload essentially all linear TV channels besides ESPN. Byron Allen, founder of Allen Media Group has shown repeated interest in the channel. Nexstar has also reportedly discussed acquiring ABC from Disney. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.com

“Saturday Night Live” is coming back to the air next week. Yes, there is still an actors strike going on, but yes, this is Ok. SAG-AFTRA even says so.
But if you’re still wondering why “SNL” is back on the air, your questions are warranted. “SNL” isn’t a game show or reality show that just has a celebrity host. It airs on NBC, whose parent company NBCUniversal is a struck member company with the AMPTP. And generally, they’re getting hosts who have something to promote, which is a strike no-no. In fact, Pete Davidson, who will be the host on the season premiere October 14, was supposed to be the host just before the writers went on strike and cut “SNL’s” season short.
This is hardly the first time SAG-AFTRA has had to clarify to members what actors can and can’t work on during the strike.

After a cross-country move from L.A. to NYC and surviving the writers strike, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will return with its fifth season on Oct. 16.
Clarkson’s talk show will film in Studio 6A in 30 Rock, which has previously been home to “Late Night” with David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon. Ahead of its Oct. 16 premiere, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will begin filming on Oct. 10 in its new, state-of-the-art studio, which is said to have a relaxed and intimate vibe, a prominent platform for her house band and 200 seats to welcome fans to participate in a live, in-studio experience.
“I’m so excited to start our fifth season at the iconic 30 Rock,” Clarkson said. “There is such a unique energy and creative spirit that comes with filming in New York City. Y’all ready?”
The talk show had previously been in pre-production while its new set was being built in New York.

As Drew Barrymore digs herself into a deeper hole regarding the return of her daytime talk show, lost in the debate is a conversation about the peculiar nature of syndicated TV.
One week ago, Barrymore ignited a firestorm when she announced her talk show would be returning amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In the week since, tensions worsened and Barrymore, normally well-liked for her good-natured personality, intensified that criticism when she doubled down with a second, now-deleted, video message. If anything, her attempt to quell any criticism had the opposite effect.
Barrymore is at the eye of the storm, but she is not the only daytime host returning this upcoming week. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and CBS’ “The Talk,” which is not syndicated, will launch new seasons on Monday, Sept. 18, as well as Sherri Shepherd’s “Sherri” and Karamo Brown’s “Karamo,” though those two shows are not struck or covered by the WGA,...

As the WGA strike extends into its fourth month, “Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown is among the daytime talk show hosts who are in the clear to resume production for his syndicated show “Karamo” amid the ongoing labor dispute.
“A lot of people have asked me, ‘why is your talk show [still filming]?’ It’s because we don’t work with celebrities, and I don’t have any writers on my show,” Brown told TheWrap. “Shows like mine are not part of that union because, again, no celebrities, no writers and it’s just me — [and] whatever comes up off the top of my head — and so we’re able to continue on.”
Brown’s daytime talker does not violate strike rules as it does not employ WGA staffers, while shows like “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “Real Time With Bill Maher” are considered “struck shows” by the Writers’ Guild of America — which...

While Tamron Hall is the host of her successful, self-titled daytime talk show “Tamron Hall,” there was a hypothetical world in which she may have been part of the late-night TV landscape. But Hall told TheWrap she’s not convinced that idea would have gotten past network executives.
It’s something Hall thought about earlier on in her career, and one that was suggested to her prior to the launch of her now two-time Emmy-winning talk series.
“I have a former producer at MSNBC who always said, ‘You should be in late night, you should be in late night,'” Hall said. But she also mentioned that she didn’t think there would be as clear of a lane for her to pursue late night in comparison to other on-camera talents who come from a different background.

Drew Barrymore offered up an explanation Friday as to why her daytime talk show is returning, amid fierce criticism during the writers strike. However, later that afternoon, the video had been removed after criticism of the video on social media, notably from her fellow members of the entertainment industry.
Bradley Whitford, Debra Messing and Alyssa Milano were among actors who posted responses to Barrymore’s video. “I hope you will reconsider,” said Messing.
“I believe there’s nothing I can do or say in this moment to make it Ok,” Barrymore said on the video, in an emotional video she posted on her Instagram. “I wanted to own a decision, so that it wasn’t a PR-protected situation, and I would just take full responsibility for my actions.”
A tearful Barrymore continued, “I know there is just nothing I can do that will make this Ok to those that it is not Ok with.

As the WGA strike stretches into its fourth month, writing and filming on most TV shows and movies across the industry have shut down, especially after SAG-AFTRA members joined striking writers on the picket line in mid-July. Which is why some were confused when Drew Barrymore announced in September that she’d return to shoot “The Drew Barrymore Show” without writers.
While productions from studios in the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are considered “struck” by the guilds, there are exceptions for some, including those that gain interim agreements from SAG-AFTRA as well as projects that aren’t contracted through the guilds on strike, including reality series and productions filming internationally.

“The Drew Barrymore Show” returned from its summer hiatus Monday and all hell broke loose.
The WGA picketed Barrymore’s daytime talk show, which employed three WGA members prior to the strike. The program joins the ranks of ABC’s “The View,” which also returned. “The Talk,” “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” have all announced their intention to return before the strike ends; they can expect the same treatment.
All daytime talk shows are not created equally as far as the WGA is concerned. “Tamron Hall,” “Live with Kelly and Mark,” and “Sherri” don’t employ WGA writers and should have cleaner comebacks. Of course, they still can’t have actor or writer guests promoting their films or TV shows. (SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14; the WGA strike started May 2.)

Update Sept. 13, 2:15 p.m.: As Variety reported on Monday, CBS is prepping to bring back its daytime yakker “The Talk” on Monday, Sept. 18 — and now it’s official. The Eye network, which earlier on Wednesday announced all of its daytime premieres except “The Talk,” has now confirmed that it will also return on Monday, both on CBS and Paramount+. The show airs weekdays at 2 p.m. Et / 1 p.m. Pt.
CBS didn’t share any further details about guests for the first episode, which now comes the same day that “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will also be back with new episodes in first-run syndication. Like those shows, “The Talk” operates under the SAG-AFTRA Network Code, allowing talk show hosts to continue in that role.
News comes as “The Talk” shot a rehearsal show on Wednesday, some of which may be used later on an episode.

Tamron Hall was on a mission to prove people wrong and show her value with the success of her now award-winning talk show “Tamron Hall,” following her exit from the “Today” show.
“I can honestly say something that I’ve never said… I was determined to prove people wrong, and probably in an unhealthy way – in some ways,” the host told TheWrap during a recent interview. “Looking back at that, I really wanted to prove my value…I wanted to prove to young women, and women over a certain age, like myself, that we’re not disposable.”
At first glance, one might be confused by Hall’s seemingly unconfident thoughts, especially with her mountain of achievements. Prior to being daytime It Girl, she carried more than 30 years of experience as a hard news journalist, had a resume decorated with three Emmy nominations and was the first Black woman to host NBC’s “Today” show.

Bill Geddie, a legendary TV-news producer who was behind many of Barbara Walters’ most notable efforts, including the long-running ABC daytime show “The View,” has died of coronary-related factors, his family told Variety. He was 68.
“He was a big deal in TV, but at home he was an even ‘bigger than life’ husband and dad,” said Geddie’s family in a statement. “He had a genuine love for television and entertainment. He would try everything and did it well — screenwriting, recording podcasts, playing guitar, writing songs, and loved a wide range of music from country to jazz. His favorite band was The Beatles, and he never thought he would have the opportunity to meet one of his personal heroes Paul McCartney in person, but his dream came true. For the past two seasons, Kelly Clarkson has filmed her talk show’s premiere weeks in New York City, but now, she is taking her show to the Big Apple for good.

Michelle Branch addressed those domestic assault allegations during a candid interview on the “Tamron Hall” show.
The singer, who is releasing her fourth studio LP The Trouble with Fever this week, married Patrick Carney in 2019. But, over the past month or so the pair have been hitting headlines after she accused him of cheating in a since-deleted tweet.
Branch also admitted to slapping the Black Keys drummer, with a domestic assault case since being dropped.
The musician told Hall this week that she and Carney have now started therapy and it’s apparently working wonders for their relationship.
“It’s made such a huge difference in a short amount of time,” Branch said, calling the night in question “the worst night of my life.”
