The film began as an inside joke between the producers, when they imagined "what if Conor O'Neill played an Alien?"
Neither Daniel Edwards (Eddie Epstein) or Benji Holmes (Fred McCartney) had ever acted a single role in their lives before arriving on the set of the film. Nevertheless, both executive producers claim the two actors' performances to be arguably the best in the film.
Filming in London city center in December 2018 was disrupted due to a far-right, Tommy Robinson-led march taking place. The area surrounding Downing Street was securely blocked by police ahead of the rally, and so shots of a similar-looking building had to be used in the film instead.
Most of the film's dialogue was improvised in order to give the film an authentic realist feel.
Benji Holmes, who plays rebellious activist Fred McCartney, is also the sole writer and performer of three original songs in the film- 'Planetary' (during the opening credits), '80/20' (during the Liverpool montage) and 'Everything and Forever' (the end credit music).
