- TriviaStarting in this episode, until the end of the first season, the series "adapts" the two "Salvor Hardin"-centered parts of the first Foundation book: "The Encyclopedists" and "The Mayors." It's only a very loose adaptation, as only Salvor Hardin and Lewis Pirenne's characters are retained, entire subplots are made up (all of the ones related to the Emperors to boot), and basically two Seldon crises (one 50 years after the start of the Foundation and one 80 years) are compounded into one, happening 35 years after the start. Also, the entire story of the Actionist party is completely removed, as is the Science religion one (well, only postponed actually), and Salvor Hardin is supposed to be a shrewd politician, not a smart individual with special powers.
- Quotes
Brother Dusk: Are we not enough? Is that why you miss him?
Demerzel: Oh, no, sweet brother. You are enough. It's just that you always leave me.

It's obviously going to be slow going...that's not bad
So we spend more time with the Cleons and more time on Terminus. The questions raised in episode 2 are not answered as yet. But we do spend time with the character introduced at the beginning, Salvor Hardin, who I find interesting to watch. Maybe I missed something but it's not clear to me why she's an "outsider." There also seems to be some tension with her mother but I don't understand that either. This may be an inherent weakness with the series (which may or may not be resolved). The writers have introduced narrative elements without wholly explaining them. It reduces the enjoyment when you keeping going to yourself "now why is this happening?"
I would like to make a brief mention of the "book vs. Series" issue. Some want the series to be closer to the book and others perhaps weary of references to a book or books they haven't read. My own feeling is I'm fine with the books being a starting point and the writers going in their own directions but I feel some thematic integrity needs to remain. Currently, I'm struggling to see some of Asimov's original themes in the series. But in the end, it would be impossible to create a series that would make everyone happy. For right now, I'm still interested.
