During the premiere and panel for DC Animation’s upcoming film Batman: Hush, they announced two new Superman films! Superman: Red Son and Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
We’ve heard rumors that Red Son was in development. The movie will adapt the 2003 three-issue miniseries by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett. The series tells an Elseworlds story that imagines a world where, instead of crash landing and growing up in Kansas and fighting for “truth, justice, and the American Way,” Kal-El ends up in the Ussr in the 1950s and Superman becomes a champion of Soviet Union.
This is a great story that I’ve wanted to see DC adapt, so it’s great to see that it’s really happening. The story also features alternate versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Brainiac, Green Lantern, and Lex Luthor in the era of the Cold War. Here’s the synopsis:

Batwoman‘s Arrowverse arrival in last year’s “Elseworlds” crossover gave The CW’s DC shared universe the chance to play with the Bat-mythos for the first time. And it seems they’re making the most of that in the heroine’s upcoming solo show. The Batwoman panel at Comic-Con today brought the exciting news that one of Batman’s biggest foes yet to appear in the movies will make his live-action debut in season 1.
Of course, we’re talking about Hush, the bandaged maniac who’s really Thomas Elliot, an old friend of Bruce Wayne’s turned foe. Producers Caroline Dries and Sarah Schechter revealed at the panel that many of Batman’s enemies will come after Kate Kane when she steps into her cousin’s shoes to protect Gotham City in his absence, and it seems Hush will be one of them.

As per usual, the talented folks behind DC’s animated movies didn’t disappoint when announcing the following year’s slate at San Diego Comic-Con. In case you hadn’t heard, 2020 will play host to the long-awaited Superman: Red Son adaptation and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
Also revealed to be on the way though is that of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which was briefly touched upon following the world premiere screening of Batman: Hush. Like the recently released Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and the upcoming Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, this is an original story and won’t be based on any comic book in particular.
At present time, not much is known about the flick other than it’ll focus on a young Man of Steel early on in his career. Normally, I’d roll my eyes because we’d be getting yet another Superman origin story or something of the like,...

In the midst of all the movie, TV and comic book announcements and trailers dropping at San Diego Comic-Con, one aspect which I consistently look forward to most is that of the following year’s slate of DC animated films being revealed. If you’re like me, then you anticipate these babies just as much as any live action offering, as Warner Bros. Animation has a pretty good track record in this department.
As expected, the curtain was pulled back following the world premiere screening of Batman: Hush last night, and the first flick named is one that’ll make fans the world over stand up and cheer. Believe it or not, we’re finally receiving an adaptation of Superman: Red Son.
For those unfamiliar, this was originally published as an Elseworlds story written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson. Basically, it explored what would’ve happened if...

I’m a big fan of this Batman storyline which was originally written by Jeph Loeb with art by Jim Lee. I liked the first trailer that was released and there’s a good chance this will be a decent adaptation that fans will enjoy. Here’s the synopsis for those of you not familiar with the story:

When the Batman: Hush animated movie adaptation was finally announced at long last one year ago, I was among the many rejoicing. Seriously, it felt like the Powers That Be were really dragging their feet on allowing for the fan favorite story making the jump from the printed page, but we’ll be able to see it in full soon enough.
For the time being, we have two clips to whet our appetites.
The first of the two, which can viewed at the top of this article, shows the Dark Knight saving a kidnapped boy from Bane. If the musclebound brute sounds dumber than usual to you, you’re really onto something, because his new supply of Venom is really taking a toll on his otherwise impressive intellect.
Fans of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s comic book will find this to be familiar territory, only Bane is in Killer Croc’s place.

When it comes to the timeless rivalry and friendship shared by Superman and Batman, I’m sure everyone has their own opinion regarding who would come out on top. And while this writer claims the Dark Knight as his favorite fictional character overall, I won’t deny that the Man of Steel would lay waste to him if he set his inhibitions aside – prep time or no prep time.
As you no doubt remember, the first live action brawl involving the two icons occurred three years ago in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Momentous as that battle was, it resulted in what the pro wrestling industry would term as a “squash” favoring the Caped Crusader. Big Blue got in a few good licks, sure, but you have to admit the fight appeared mostly one-sided.

After months of speculation, anticipation, and plenty of rumors, it seems some concrete information regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman has finally come to light. In the midst of several outlets reporting on the casting of Robert Pattinson, Warner Bros. finally broke their silence a couple of weeks ago, confirming that the Twilight star would indeed be taking on the role of the Caped Crusader.
Shortly after, we began hearing news of the film’s suite of villains – one of our industry insiders revealed Batman would be facing off against Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and Firefly. Similarly, a handful of other websites began reporting that both Two-Face and the Mad Hatter would be joining the fray, confirming some rumors we’d heard for ourselves.
It’s worth noting though that from the time an original script is completed until filming wraps, there are plenty of opportunities for plotlines and characters to be revised or completely written out.

Surprising to some, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have some commonalities. After all, the half-shell heroes were initially created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as a parody of Frank Miller’s work on Daredevil, before coming to DC and turning his talents to The Dark Knight. Both properties work best in the shadows and had the producers of this animated adventure leaned into that, this could have been a cut above an obvious cash grab.
The participants have met before, in three miniseries from DC Comics and Idw in addition to one strictly set in their “Adventures” incarnations, aimed more at all-ages readers. Now, we have Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a briskly paced story. It’s not bad, but boy, it could have been so much more had anyone made an effort.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for their upcoming new DC animated film Batman: Hush. I love this Batman story and it’s great to see that it’s finally getting an animated film adaptation. It looks like it’ll be a pretty solid movie. I liked what I saw in this first trailer.
The original story was written by Jeph Loeb and it featured art by Jim Lee penciling, Scott Williams inking, and Alex Sinclair coloring. Here’s the synopsis for those of you not familiar:
Batman: Hush centers on a mysterious new villain known only as Hush, who uses a rogues’ gallery of villains to destroy Batman’s crime-fighting career as well as Bruce Wayne’s personal life, which has been further complicated by a relationship with Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
The film will be voiced by a slew of DC veterans as well as some new blood.

If you were to ask me which comic book movie I’m anticipating most in 2019, I’d have two answers for you. The obvious one is Joker because it’s being released theatrically in October, but overall, Batman: Hush takes the cake for me. It may be animated and direct-to-video, sure, but I’ve long waited for my favorite story featuring the Caped Crusader to be adapted to film.
Whetting the appetites of myself and those familiar with the source material is that of the first trailer promoting the flick, which can be viewed at the top of this article. To be honest, I’m quite proud of what I’m seeing. In reality, you can’t cram everything from a story which spanned twelve issues into one feature-length film, but the finer points are there.

This is Death’s first appearance in non-comics media. Her story sounds a little bit like Death: The High Cost of Living, the miniseries created by Neil Gaiman and Chris Bachalo - manic pixie Endless girl meets an artist and helps him work through his personal issues to come to grips with his artistic legacy and inevitable demise. A new series of DC Animated Shorts are coming in 2019, and the list is full of surprises. DC and Warner Brothers Animation announced a slate of five short animated stories led by five very different characters - Batman, Sgt. Rock, Adam Strange, the Phantom Stranger, and Sandman’s Death - and created by some of the heaviest hitters in the DC animated orbit.
It’s produced and directed by Justice League vs.

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finds Gotham City reaching new levels of danger when Shredder joins forces with Ra’s al Ghul to enact a nefarious plan – leading to the team-up of the Dark Knight and the Turtles to combat the combined might of the Foot Clan and League of Assassins!
The Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all-star cast is led by Troy Baker as the voice of both Batman and the Joker – making Baker the first actor to ever play both roles in the same film. Opposite Baker are the Ninja Turtles themselves – Emmy Award/Golden Globe Award/SAG Award winner Darren Criss as Raphael, Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) as Michelangelo, Baron Vaughn (Grace and Frankie) as Donatello, and Eric Bauza as Leonardo.

If you were to ask me, 2019 is shaping up to be one heck of a year for DC animation. Already, we’ve been impressed by Reign of the Supermen and Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, with the long awaited Batman: Hush adaptation also set to arrive sometime this summer. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, meanwhile, is scheduled for release in the fall, but I wouldn’t doubt if that gets pushed to 2020 so that it can coincide with Wonder Woman 1984‘s theatrical debut.
Much to my delight, a fifth offering was worked into the middle of that slate, as Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been confirmed for a late spring release. Not only is this making a fantasy many of us have been pondering since childhood a reality, but it should also satisfy fans of the comic book crossover which served as inspiration.

I have always been a big Legion of Super-Heroes fan and early on, designated Star Boy as my favorite Legionnaire. Maybe it’s because he was an underdog hero, but I’ve always liked him so was thrilled to see he would take center stage in the just-released Justice League vs. the Fatal Five. I admit to being a little less than thrilled they were going with the mentally unbalanced Star Boy as depicted in the Brad Meltzer run of Justice League. But, by pairing him with agoraphobic Jessica Cruz, I could understand the larger themes at work, I was fine with it.
I just wish their final product lived up to their intentions (and all the high-faulting hype seen on the bonus material). Instead, we get an over-stuffed, under-edited work that makes very little sense.

If any DC-themed animated movie to drop in 2019 offers the best of both worlds, it has to be Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. The reason I say that is because while it does chart new territory that I’ll detail momentarily, it’s a love letter to those of us who adored the sheer perfection that was Justice League Unlimited. Believe it or not, even the film’s score mirrors what we once heard from the beloved animated series. Rest assured that you’ll feel right at home as soon as you hear a well-placed electric guitar accompany Superman’s first display of heroics.
Right now, I’m guessing that you’re champing at the bit to ask me if indeed this flick is in continuity with Jlu, as opposed to Batman and Harley Quinn, which really only shared visual similarities with The New Batman Adventures.

The next DC Universe Original Movie will be an animated adaptation of classic 2000s graphic novel Hush, originally from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee. The story sees the Dark Knight confronting a mysterious new villain called Hush and features a number of friends and foes from the DC mythos. It’s ripe to be brought to the screen, then, and now Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a first look at the movie.

Based on the six part comic crossover of the same name, the recently confirmed animated film looks to be a pretty close adaptation of it’s source material. There’s some pretty awesome moments in the trailer, so hopefully the final film will live up to the promise that this first look provides.

After we were all treated to one kick-ass trailer for Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a few days ago, I’d suspected that we’d learn much more about the monumental mashup’s home video release before the week was over. As it turned out, I was proven correct.

It wasn’t that long ago when I admitted how Justice League vs. The Fatal Five‘s initial announcement didn’t exactly inspire much excitement within me, perhaps because 2019 will finally see Batman: Hush adapted to an animated film. But once we began learning more about the project and the “sneak peek” featurette found its way online, my interest level rose exponentially.
To succinctly describe why I care so much – and why you should as well – I need only say that this particular flick will serve as a spiritual successor of sorts to Justice League Unlimited, which I believe to be the best animated superhero series ever made. I mean, not only does it reunite Kevin Conroy (Batman), George Newbern (Superman) and Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman) as the Trinity, but it also brings back the same character models Bruce Timm whipped up for the aforementioned TV show.

But now that more details are making their way online, my interest grows exponentially.

Since being announced at San Diego Comic-Con last summer, one thing in particular that’s remained a hot topic for discussion is who’ll make up the voice cast. Of course, many fans have played the Kevin Conroy card, but contrary to what IMDb listings state, it looks like the Batman: The Animated Series veteran won’t take part.

When it comes to the medium of film, it hasn’t exactly been plain sailing for DC in recent years, but the ongoing success of Aquaman ensures that the brand is starting off 2019 on a strong note, and Warner Bros. no doubt intends to keep that momentum going with the various features they have coming our way.
As it stands, DC looks to have at least four live-action films headed for cinemas in the next two years, along with at least four animated movies. First on the agenda is Reign of the Supermen, which serves as a continuation of last year’s The Death of Superman. The animated outing is having a limited run in theaters later this month before coming to digital on January 15th. After that, Shazam! is set to serve as the Dceu’s sole entry this year when it arrives in the theaters on April 5th.
