And we're back to kids writing
lqfigueiro25 July 2019
Really? Who writes this stuff? A 11 year old? OK. Don't be boring and use 1950's basic protocol created by NASA. But really, astronauts acting as 10 year Olds in a uncharted planet. Ship crew been kids without any thoughts?

The Flying Forest
Hillius3 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After what I felt was an improved previous episode, the crew now decide to investigate the new moon in search of supplies. In my mind the first thing they should do is send William down to investigate as he seems to possess the best scientific mind on board & is impervious to harm. Instead what they choose to do is to send Zane, the bumbling Bernie, Niko, Cass and of course the ever diplomatically minded Sasha.

For budget minded sci-fi, you really cannot do better than jumpsuits and this show makes no exception with a more rugged looking version most likely made by Carhart. Sasha sets up some hilarious first contact protocols & attempts to communicate with the new artifact. Zane and Bernie are told to pump water aboard, but instead go looking for food. We find out new details regarding Cass so Niko decides to go on a walk together to pick her mind. Sasha proves that no matter how many light years away from earth one gets, you simply cannot escape bureaucracy.

Apparently no one is aware that sometimes reactions are not instantaneous and take time to appear. Regardless, Zane take the first giant leap by testing and tasting a spiky looking fungus. Zane is pretty inept, but why they would risk their only medical officer in search for food is pretty idiotic. Between the two, Zane is at least partly useful while Bernie... I forget, why is Bernie there again? He seems to have no real function aboard ship other than to get his crew-mates in trouble. Here he proves once again that if anyone is going to screw up it's gonna be him. Lucky for him this time Zane is up to the challenge and his able to mitigate Bernie's injury until they get back to the ship.

Back on board Michelle is as unpleasant as ever and spends this episode playing cards with William who more likely would be monitoring the team on the surface. I mean, is anyone keeping any eye on them? Nope. August, Sokolov and Javier decide to clean the ship with what appears to be baby wipes. Later they swab the deck with mop and bucket which descends into juvenile romp. Horsing around is all fun and games til someone gets a boo boo. Bad writing is seen again as janitorial detail quickly leads to 3-way action. Really? And speaking of Michelle, anyone putting up that kind of a front is usually hiding something very vulnerable and insecure about themselves. Could this be the case or is she just an ever wintering ice queen?

Back on earth General Dubois has some choice words for Erik and Harper Glass. Only in sci-f apparently do people ever actually get into trouble for leaking classified information. Somehow in this futuristic world, Russia and Korea still stand as the US only major diplomatic threats. Not much from this gang this time.

Later on the moon Sasha gets a brief mockingbird before being pulled into the artifact. Niko and Cass discover an enchanted forest with narcotic properties. This was best done by The Magicians in the episode "The Flying Forest", if you're a fan you'll know & if you don't you really ought to. Anyhow this leads to a rather phony feeling heart to heart which is really nothing more than the two describing the worst features of the other. The great Bill Watterson said it best " If anything in this world works it is because on of us (control freaks) took charge." Pretty much the case here & nothing is really resolved at all.

Finally, at night, Zane is trying to get an injured Bernie back to the ship and suddenly the subterranean menace no one seemed to notice makes chase. Niko tries to shoot one, but somehow can't get a shot. Cass proves that she can in fact be useful and Sasha gets away, but which one is it really? Until proven otherwise Sasha is now a suspected alien. I kind of hope so actually.

With all aboard they head back to the Solare & go through decontamination which for this show's purposes is about as useful as standing under a black light. We see that a baby moon spider has made it aboard also. I suspect that the spider joggles some internal wiring causing William to glitch out and the artificial gravity to briefly fail. Somehow this causes a heater to create a fire. Cass tries to help but just like in Sandra Bullocks film "Gravity" you just never ever want to fire an extinguisher in zero g.

I liked this episode for the most part despite it's shortcomings, This (and so many other) shows could really do with better writers, as much of the talent has been proven to be pretty darn good in previous efforts. Halfway through now so I am hoping that this will pick it up and become the halfway decent show I have been hoping that it would be.

However, they re-used the set of Annihilation with Natalie Portman for sure.

It's a comedy
nlszmn30 July 2019
After science and dialogue left the room there was barely anything holding this thing together. But even the continuity in the show itself is gone now. Wasn't it 2 episodes ago that they encountered a alien protein that could kill them? And what's the first thing they do now? Eat stuff they find walk around without helmets on. The team of writers behind this show are something special alright.

Come on
Tor-Steinar28 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
They land on a complety unknown moon, decide to split up and just generally touch, eat and smell the things they find. Very scientific and credible, All this while there is what looks like a teenage love drama going on back at the ship. By these hand picked and specially selected astronauts. This episode makes me wonder if the show is in free fall.

Painfully stupid
molvich29 July 2019
I am really perplexed with what is going on with this show.

Have the writers ever met a single sane, competent person in their lives? Do they really have no experience with how they behave, with what might be expected of them.

This entire show as if the cast were completely socialized by the most terrible of daytime talk shows. They have zero idea how to interact with other human beings, or how to even slightly stay on task.

Does anyone ever learn from their mistakes? Make even the most basic of efforts not to repeat them?

Who thought this was a good idea and how did they find the time to make it between their bouts of licking light sockets?

Shoddy writing..
iaingking10 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Come on, did the crew learn nothing from a few episodes ago where they brought a virus on board? Now they go to a new planet to find food where they don't have special suits on, they go around tasting, smelling, and picking up any living thing they can find. Where did Netflix get these writers from?

glnstuff1 February 2020
Until this episode i liked this series. Didnt we have an episode with a deadly virus before ? Who the heck writes episodes like this one and seriously thinks that its okay to let the ppl walk around touch eat and smell things on the next best planet/moon? Do ppl at netflix or whoever was in charge here not review the scripts and storys before they make them? Im sick of such ploholes in newer series all over the Place. Where are the good old well designed sci fi series at? This Episode alone made the entire Series a joke.

Train wreck
rjmfphotography15 October 2021
Compelled to watch, despite the low production values. Episode 1 - "we haven't worn uniforms is decades". Episode 5, everyone clearly in uniforms.

And yes...we just lost a few redshirts to an alien parasite so let's take absolutely no precautions going forward.

I'll keep watching it however, because there's literally nothing else after 2 years of pandemic entertainment.

Mind
nebohr6 July 2022
Thinking is the process of perceiving and making sense of one's surroundings. Once again we find that the crew is woefully lacking in the most basic mental ability: thinking. And why might that be. Perhaps the writers themselves are lacking. That's where I put my money.

And once again the crew shows a lack of unity; of respect (for themselves and others) and basic cohesion. Again I would suggest that the writers themselves have never experienced camaraderie: of being a member of a team.

If not for the clearly substandard writers this series could have been a success.

Agreed...shameful!

I agree with the majority of negative reviews...I also saw a huge number of script-cuts from very well written movie titles. Not impressed with digital designs, seen better video games graphics.

How do they know which way is North East.
aalderson497 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So they land on an alien moon in a different part of the galaxy looking for an alien artefact. Right which way to the artefact. It's about 1 kilometre North East. WTF. No point of reference but without thinking they know which way North East is on an alien moon with different planets and suns surrounding the moon. Very clever these Americans.
