Exclusive: The First Omen director and co-scribe Arkasha Stevenson and the pic’s screenwriter/EP Tim Smith have signed with WME for representation in all areas.
The news comes in the wake of the 20th Century Studios’ prequel to the 1976 theatrical release grossing north of $35M at the global box office through its first ten days of release, as well as 80% certified fresh with Rotten Tomatoes critics. Stevenson and Smith wrote the screenplay with Keith Thomas off a story by Ben Jacoby, based on the characters by David Seltzer.
The duo partnership first came to public attention with the short film Pineapple, which made its debut at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Under Stevenson’s direction and Smith’s production acumen, Pineapple was not only a festival standout but also a concept robust enough to be sold as a TV series to AMC, for which Stevenson and Smith collaboratively penned the pilot episode.

Ach der lieber! German Expressionism fans everywhere are in sorrow as Sam Esmail’s seven-years-in-the-making passion project, a series adaptation of Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” has been shelved, Deadline confirms.
The series, from Universal Cable Productions (UCP), had been prepping for production in Australia and was expected to be the biggest TV series ever shot there. It was going to stream on Apple TV+, which had given it a full series order last year. “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision,” a UCP told Deadline.
“Metropolis” is just the latest casualty of the ongoing WGA strike: the third seasons of “P-Valley” and “Yellowjackets” have been indefinitely delayed, as has the Disney+ show “Daredevil: Born Again” and Season 2 of “Severance.”
Esmail has had a flurry of new shows in recent years: Just since 2020 there’s been USA’s “Briarpatch,” Starz’s “Gaslit,” and Peacock’s “Angelyne” and “The Resort.

Exclusive: Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind) has been tapped for a prominent role opposite Robert De Niro, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen and Connie Britton in Netflix’s limited series Zero Day, the six-episode conspiracy thriller from creators Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and Michael S. Schmidt.
Gathegi will play Carl, an intense bureaucrat and loyalist of De Niro’s former U.S President George Mullen.
Falling under a deal between Netflix and Newman’s Grand Electric Productions, Zero Day asks the question, how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?

Beloved Scottish actor Alan Cumming, it turns out, almost had a role in the Harry Potter cinematic universe. It centers on an entirely white royal family that is plunged into a scorched-earth succession battle when it’s revealed that the late king has hidden a mind-blowing secret: a Black son who is the true heir to the throne.
Others attached to the project include British American filmmaker Peter Glanz (“The Longest Week”), who is writing. He is repped by ICM, Mosaic and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman. He’s also repped by Merman for commercials.

ABC has officially ordered “Mr. Robot” creator and “Homecoming” director Sam Esmail’s pilot for the new drama “Acts of Crime.”
The show has been in development at the Walt Disney Television flagship since last September, as well as another series known only as the “Untitled CDC Project,” which landed a pilot commitment. Universal Content Productions (UCP), a division of Universal Studio Group and ABC Signature, is the studio behind both “Acts of Crime” and the untitled CDC-focused series.
Details on what the crime procedural will be about are under wraps, though ABC’s statement mentioned that “Acts of Crime” will be a “unique spin” on the genre. Esmail Corp.’s Chad Hamilton will executive produce the show alongside Esmail, who is also billed as the show’s writer and director.

Fear the Walking Dead is now poised to outlive the soon-to-end mothership series from which it was spun, thanks to AMC’s renewal for a seventh season. While it’s far too early to speculate on Season 7, since the announcement only arrives shortly after the recent midseason finale of Season 6, the renewal will likely boost the rumor that the show’s original main character, Madison Clark (Kim Dickens), will make a momentous return after her presumed death in Season 4.
AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 announcement came with a teaser trailer bearing imagery hinting that the series will stay in its current Texas setting. However, the latest Madison rumor stems from this past October’s Season 6 premiere, which picked up on the cliffhanger moment in which Morgan (Lennie James) was left for dead, mortally wounded from a gunshot to the chest from the imperious leader of survivor group the Pioneers,...

(Spoiler Alert: Do not read on if you have not watched the third episode of season 2 of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian.”)
After the second episode delivered more creepy-crawlies than plot, episode 3 “The Heiress” (directed by Bryce Dallas Howard) kicked season 2 into hyperdrive.
The episode begins with Mando, Baby Yoda and Frog Lady finally arriving on the planet of Trask, where the latter is touchingly reunited with her froggy husband.
Mando was promised that he would find fellow Mandalorians on the planet, and sure enough, it doesn’t take long before a trio of Beskar-armored warriors save him and Baby Yoda from a group of nasty squid sailors who try to feed them to a Kraken-esque monster.
But these aren’t just any Mandalorians. They are led by none other than Bo-Katan Kryze (played by Katee Sackhoff), a fan-favorite “Clone Wars” character, leader of the Nite Owls and sister to the Duchess of the planet Mandalore.

Two drama series from “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail and Esmail Corp’s Chad Hamilton are in development with ABC.
“Acts of Crime,” described only as a “unique spin on the crime procedural,” is written and directed by Esmail. He and Hamilton are slated to serve as executive producers for Esmail Corp on the series, which has been given a production commitment, as well as a yet-to-be-titled drama only known as the “Untitled CDC Project,” the latter of which has landed a script and put pilot order.
NBCUniversal’s Ucp is the studio behind both “Acts of Crime” and the untitled CDC-focused series.
Esmail’s work with Ucp dates back to “Mr. Robot” on USA Network, and more recently, USA’s “Briarpatch.” Esmail Corp. also produces Amazon Studios’ “Homecoming,” as well as Peacock’s “Angelyne” and the upcoming reboot of “Battlestar Galactica.” The “Battlestar” reboot will mark the third version...

ABC is getting in the Sam Esmail business in a major way. The network has bought two dramas from the Mr. Robot creator and Homecoming EP – Acts of Crime, which has landed a production commitment; and Untitled CDC Project, which has received a put pilot commitment. Both projects hail from Ucp, where Esmail is under a mega overall deal. It marks a rare broadcast sale for Ucp, part of Universal Studio Group, whose focus has been on cable/streaming series, such as Esmail’s Homecoming for Amazon and Angelyne for Peacock as well as Umbrella Academy for Netflix.
This marks Esmail’s first foray into broadcast TV. Under his Ucp deal, he had a couple of ideas, Acts of Crime and CDC drama, that were best suited for broadcast. Ucp took the projects out to all the major broadcast, and ABC won the bidding war, I hear.

Netflix has acquired yet another star-studded adaptation. The streaming service has prevailed in a bidding war for “Leave the World Behind,” an upcoming feature film that will star Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington and be directed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”).
Deadline reported there were 10 offers on the project, which is an adaptation of author Rumaan Alam’s upcoming novel, which came down to Netflix, Apple, and MGM. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but Deadline noted that the book portion of the deal was in the seven-figure range and could compare with the $120 million that Apple paid for the “Emancipation” runaway slave drama. Sources close to the project confirmed the project with IndieWire but did not elaborate on the financial terms.

It's the end of the line for another USA Network series.
Briarpatch has been canceled after one season.
Series creator Andy Greenwald announced the “disappointing” on Twitter, adding, “Though I’ve known for months, it’s still a bummer.
“We had an amazing story planned for [Season 2],” he added, “and I was lucky enough to work with the most amazing writers and crew, all of whom were itching to get back to work."
"I think we were going to do something special. And, hey, maybe we still will. If enough people keep checking the show out on demand, anything’s possible — especially for an anthology series as weird as this one. Nothing’s over until it’s over. But if it’s over? What a way to go.”
The good news for fans is that Season 2 would have featured a different story, with the series taking an anthology approach.
