When it was announced in April of last year that F. Murray Abraham would be leaving Apple TV+’s comedy series Mythic Quest after two seasons, no official reason was given. Now, it has come out that Abraham was fired due to multiple complaints of sexual misconduct.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Lionsgate (one of the show’s production companies) wrote, “We take allegations of misconduct seriously and investigate them thoroughly. As a matter of corporate policy, we do not discuss our personnel actions.” As such, season three of Mythic Quest, which concluded this past January, went on without Abraham, who played the head writer for the titular Mmorpg. For those unfamiliar with the series, the official synopsis reads: “Meet the team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all time. Of his many accomplishments, Benedict Wong can be credited with making librarians cool. As the character of Wong in “Doctor Strange” and other Marvel movies, he perfectly embodies the smart, sly Master of the Mystic Arts. Soon audiences can catch the actor in “Nine Days,” a sci-fi offering from Edson Oda, set to hit theaters July 30. Winston Duke plays an arbitrator in an unspecified landscape who decides which souls get to be born to Earth; Wong is his colleague, Kyo, who interjects some levity into the solemn proceedings.
“Nine Days” is such a lovely and specific film. What interested you in being a part of this project?
When I first read it, I knew that this was something special. Edson wrote an exceptional script. It was inspired by his late uncle, and it was a true passion project — not just for him but for everyone involved. Just from our conversations,...

Exclusive: Lucy Freyer has joined the cast of Brit McAdams’ Paint, starring Owen Wilson, Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus and Stephen Root.
The comedic feature centers on Carl Nargle (Wilson), who has hosted Vermont’s #1 painting show for nearly three decades. While Carl’s signature whisper has long kept viewers from Pittsfield to St. Albans breathlessly hanging on his every stroke, the station eventually hires a younger, better painter who steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.
In the film, which is currently in production, Freyer plays the eager and impressionable Jenna, an employee at Carl’s studio who is also his latest girlfriend. Like the women before her, she’s captivated by Carl’s gentle charm, but is starting to realize that she’s doing things she doesn’t believe in just to gain his affection.
McAdams wrote the script for Paint, which made The Black List.

Cast in The Art of Self-Defense after another actor dropped out, Nivola had 24 hours to learn black belt karate. But his greatest victory, he says, was securing the lead in David Chase’s big screen Sopranos prequel
‘I would say a good percentage of the roles I’ve done have only come to me after somebody dropped out at the last minute,” says Alessandro Nivola. I assume he is being self-deprecating, but he assures me he is being honest. He is in London to talk about The Art of Self-Defense, a black comedy that holds toxic masculinity in its satirical crosshairs. “This one, I’m sure somebody did drop out because I was offered it a week before it started.”
At 47, Nivola is in the midst of a particularly fruitful period of his career. He has been a working actor since he left Yale in the mid-90s, but the...

Hugh Laurie, the Golden Globe-winning star of “House” and “The Night Manager,” will play a beleaguered politician in a new four-part thriller for the BBC, “Roadkill,” from acclaimed playwright and screenwriter David Hare. The series is being produced by The Forge (“Collateral”).

Warning: big ol' spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead! Proceed with caution.
Avengers: Endgame was always going to end with a bit of tragedy, and the final team-up film in the original Avengers franchise delivers on that promise with the gut-wrenching death of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. His exit from the series isn't unexpected, since Robert Downey Jr. has been hinting for a while now that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had an expiration date. Fortunately the way he goes out during the team's all-out brawl against Thanos's army is a valiant one, and the funeral held in his memory afterwards is attended by all of his friends and family. However, if one teenager in the group of mourners took you by surprise, you're not alone.
The intimate funeral is held at Tony and Pepper's lakeside home after his death with all the Avengers present - even Captain Marvel...

Lille, France — Series Mania’s Forum wrapped Wednesday, the festival proper on Saturday night. Here are 10 takeaways on events to date at the biggest edition ever:
1.Netflix: No In-house Production In France, But Beyond?
The role of the independent producer in an Over-the-Top platform world proved the No. 1 talking point of Series Mania.
Producers fears are double-fold: Not retaining any rights to what they produce: being totally sidelined by streaming giants’ producing talent directly. If Series Mania served to suggest one thing, it is that the jury is still out on how this issue will play out. Especially with more Ott players coming online, nothing seems written in stone. At one of the TV festivals key panels, Developing French Content for and with Netflix, asked whether Netflix would in-house produce in France. Damien Couvreur, director international originals France, said that Netflix was “doing it in the U.S., to...

Channel 4 has unveiled the first look at the Alessandro Nivola-fronted series adaptation of Lucy Kirkwood’s critically acclaimed play Chimerica.
The broadcaster is set to launch the four-part series, from Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment, this spring.
Chimerica, written by Kirkwood, examines the changing fortunes of the U.S. and China. Nivola plays the lead, an American photojournalist who tries to discover the truth behind the iconic, career-making image he took of a lone man defying the tanks that rolled into Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989.
Chimerica starts in China’s Tiananmen Square in 1989 as young American photojournalist captures a piece of history as tanks roll through Beijing and soldiers hammer on his hotel door. Twenty years later, he is covering a presidential election, marred by debate over cheap labor and the outsourcing of American jobs to Chinese factories. He subsequently becomes obsessed with a cryptic message left...

Exclusive: Jason Wong is joining Guy Ritchie’s Toff Guys gang which already includes Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding, and Jeremy Strong.
In the Miramax movie Wong will play Phuc, a dangerous and conniving Chinese gangster, who is a member of Golding’s charter’s illicit crime outfit. The pic explores the collision between old-money European wealth and the modern marijuana industrial complex with new gang entrants swarming, and it’s a throwback to Ritchie’s hyper-action British gangster pics.
Wong recently appeared in the ITV mystery crime drama series Strangers (formerly known as White Dragon) which will be streaming on Amazon in February. He can next be seen in the upcoming Channel 4 series Chimerica, which is written by Lucy Kirkwood and stars Alessandro Nivola. The series follows Nivola as an American photojournalist who tries to discover the truth behind the iconic, career-making image he took...
