Pet Sematary: Bloodlines director Lindsey Anderson Beer has a whole lot of projects in the works at Paramount, from a new version of Sleepy Hollow to a film inspired by the American Girl toy brand – but that isn’t stopping her from teaming up with Universal Content Productions and genre regular James Wan (as well as his wife Ingrid Bisu) to develop a TV series called 1313, which is described as being a darker reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters. If 1313 gets a series order, Anderson Beer will be serving as the showrunner.
According to Deadline, 1313 will be “a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse,” which makes sense, since the Munsters family included vampires, a little werewolf, and a version of Frankenstein’s Monster. As for the title of this new project, it comes from the fact that the Munsters lived in a house with the address 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

Earlier this month, an image cinematographer Christian Sebaldt shared on Instagram indicated that Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) was finally, after years of development and a thirteen-year gap between sequels, heading into production. The next day, producer Craig Perry took to social media to confirm that Final Destination: Bloodlines is indeed filming, the aim being to get this one into theatres in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. Now, it’s been revealed that the long anticipated sequel has officially wrapped principal photography. Once again, the announcement came courtesy of Perry. The film stars Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee. It also features the return of Tony Todd in his iconic role as William Budworth, who was in the first,...

If you are a TV fanatic, you've likely watched your fair share of CW shows. So, you already know that if you've seen an actor in one CW series, you've likely seen them again in another. This means you're probably already familiar with Melissa Roxburgh but don't even realize it.
Starting out in installments of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, the actress transitioned into broadcast television the following year.
To her credit, Melissa Roxburgh has become somewhat of a sci-fi siren of the small screen, often appearing in roles on shows with fantastical elements like time travel or supernatural monsters.
In recent years, she's gained notoriety, having developed a relationship with Netflix the same way she did with the CW. However, beyond being a serial series guest star, Roxburgh has had a handful of significant film roles that have shown she is a powerhouse of talent in her own right.

Exclusive: Jackson White (Tell Me Lies) has been tapped to star opposite Lily James in the upcoming film inspired by the story of Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, from 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment.
While it’s not entirely clear who White will be playing, we’re told he’s set for the part of Herd’s love interest. The untitled feature goes into production this year.
Famously launching the online dating platform Bumble after co-founding and departing Tinder, Herd became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31, when Bumble went public in 2021. While she stepped down as CEO last year, the app continues to be hugely popular amongst the single crowd.
Plot details for the film remain vague, as it’s said to be somewhat loosely inspired by Herd’s story. Rachel Lee Goldenberg will direct from her script written with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele, with...

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
The latest episode of "X-Men '97," "Remember It," took us to mutant haven Genosha (before it all went to Hell anyway). The island turned out to be a treasure trove of cameos; the Genoshan ruling council included Hellfire Club leaders Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw, Morlock leader Callisto, the Irish mutant Banshee, Professor X's old flame Moira MacTaggert, and former Goblin Queen Madelyne Pryor. The streets of Genosha were filled with other mutants whom "X-Men" comics fans may recognize, from Pixie to Dazzler to Marrow to Exodus.
The best mutant cameo of all, though, is the blue-skinned Bavarian Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler. His voice actor, Adrian Hough, joins the ranks of those who've reprised their roles from the 1992 "X-Men" cartoon.
Kurt shows up in the episode's title sequence doing some sword fighting with Gambit. In the episode itself, he escorts Rogue and Gambit...

Insider Daniel Richtman shares insights into The Fantastic Four’s placement within the MCU Multiverse (Photo Credit – IMDb)
In contrast to many Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, The Fantastic Four is set to unfurl in a separate timeline, veering away from the established continuity. Insider Daniel Richtman, renowned for reliable intel shared on his subscription-based Patreon account, hints that the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot will reside in an alternate universe apart from Earth-616. If accurate, this marks the second MCU flick to venture into an alternate reality, following Deadpool & Wolverine, expected to explore the X-Men Universe under 20th Century Studios.
Richtman also discloses that principal photography for the much-anticipated film is slated to kick off in August, with London, England, as the backdrop. This revelation echoes Marvel Studios’ teaser of The Fantastic Four’s 1960s setting via its casting announcement artwork.

This might sound rude, but it's doubtful that the "Wrong Turn" films are anyone's ride-or-die franchise. In fact, when we did our own ranking of the 15 best horror movie franchises, the "Wrong Turn" property didn't even make the cut. And yet, despite the odds, seven "Wrong Turn" films (including a prequel and a reboot) have been released since 2003. That's a new "Wrong Turn" movie every three years on average! The series centers around a family of inbred cannibal mutants in Appalachia, leaning into every insulting cultural stereotype about mountain folk and turning it into a horror story. The "horrifying hillbilly" trope is nothing new, but the "Wrong Turn" series has become the grotesque poster child of the subgenre.
Against the better judgment of most, I have willingly watched all seven "Wrong Turn" films and ranked them here for your viewing pleasure. Let's throw out our maps, completely ignore our Gps,...

Ron Underwood's 1990 monster flick "Tremors" is one of the better horror films of its decade and kicked off a long-running entertainment franchise that includes seven films and a 2003 TV series. It also provided horror aficionados with one of the most indelible heroes the genre has ever seen in Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), a violent, gun-toting survivalist who somehow comes across as decent, caring, and lovable. Burt Gummer was only a supporting character in the first "Tremors," but became the series' central protagonist in "Tremors 3." Gross remained devoted to the series until its end in 2020.
The monsters in "Tremors" were novel and awesome. Nicknamed Graboids, the monsters were outsize, blind, subterranean worm creatures that could burrow at amazing speeds. They were each possessed of three snake-like tongues that could pop up from the ground and grab potential victims. They sensed their prey by listening to footsteps and vibrations, leading to...

Every new year that comes brings us a crop of horror movies that blow us away. They (hopefully) break the mould and provide us with scares that we haven’t felt in years. Then there are the other types. Given that the sentiment on Twitter seems to be that Worst of Lists aren’t always necessary, we’ve decided to limit this list to movies we feel fail on almost every conceivable level (which is why you won’t see Exorcist Believer on this list). And since we don’t like to be Entirely negative, we’ll be sure to throw in a silver lining for each film: a little bit of good amongst the bad. So grab your beverage of choice, and let’s throw some films under the bus as we get into the Worst Horror Movies of 2023.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was made specifically for the Paramount+ streaming service, but now it has been announced that Paramount is going to be doing something I wish streaming services would do much more often: while continuing to stream the movie, they will also be giving it a digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release! The digital version will be available for rent or purchase as of December 5th, with the physical media release following on December 19th.
Said to be “based on an untold chapter penned by Stephen King“, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines centers on a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. While it didn’t hit North American shores until a year later, Japanese gamers got their taste of 16-bit power at home with the Sega Mega Drive on this day back in 1988. Once it did arrive in North America, thanks in part to Sega of America’s marketing campaign, and its decision to cater towards a more mature and “cool” audience over Nintendo’s kid friendly approach, the Mega Drive/Genesis for a time had the upper hand in the “console wars” of the 90s. The results of Sega’s efforts? In addition to having superior sports games compared to the Snes, Mega Drive/Genesis fans received their fair share of horror games, which weren’t bound by Nintendo’s often draconian code of censorship.
So, much like with the Snes, here’s a sampling of some of those genre titles that Sega fans can dive into for a trip...

Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise with Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry – and entertainment industry scooper Daniel Richtman just revealed the plot synopsis for the new film, along with some character descriptions and the title, which isn’t going to be Final Destination 6. This one is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines, which is kind of bummer because Bloodlines is a very over-used subtitle in the horror world. To name just a few, we’ve previously gotten Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
But there is good reason for the Bloodlines subtitle, because family bloodlines are important to the story. Jeffrey Reddick – who wrote the initial screenplay for the original Final Destination and contributed to Final Destination 2 – has previously said that...

Jointly produced by BBC Sounds and CBC Podcasts, insightful new seven-part podcast series Bloodlines shines a light on Dure Ahmed, the former wife of El Shafee Elsheikh, a notorious Isis fighter. Her identity was revealed yesterday in Canada where she has been repatriated. Elsheikh and the others in his Isis cell were nicknamed "the Beatles" by their captives because of their British accents. The militant cell carried out high profile kidnappings and beheadings of American, British and Japanese journalists and aid workers. Elsheikh is currently serving eight life sentences in an American high security prison.
Bloodlines begins as host and BBC Asian Network journalist Poonam Taneja takes listeners into the wreckage of the so-called Islamic State in search of three-year-old Salmaan, the missing grandchild of a British citizen. Another hat-trick of directors on this week's beautifully-designed, utterly symmetrical Empire Podcast, folks. First, Ben Travis says what a marvellous day for a chat with David Gordon Green, director of :a[The Exorcist: Believer]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-exorcist-believer/' }. Then, Beth Webb chats with Chloe Domont, the writer/director of the savage relationship drama, :a[Fair Play]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/fair-play/' }. And then John Nugent travels to Venice to have a chat with the one and only Wes Anderson – who was wearing pyjamas monogrammed with his own initials – about his Roald Dahl short films, currently streaming on Netflix. John didn't have any pod equipment with him, which is why his audio is slightly spotty in this one.

One of Stephen King’s best — and bleakest — tales of horror has a new beginning with “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Directed and co-written by Lindsey Anderson Beer (”Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”), the prequel heads back long before the Creeds came to town and follows Jud Crandall (Jackson White) as a young man in Ludlow, Maine, where ancient evil lurks and a corrupted patch of land holds the power to bring back the dead. But of course sometimes dead is better, and “Bloodlines” tells the story of exactly how Jud learned that hard lesson the first time.
The film also has a starry cast, including David Duchovny, Henry Thomas and the legendary Pam Grier. But despite what you might expect for a King adaptation with that pedigree, “Bloodlines” is a streaming exclusive and isn’t heading to theaters, which means you can watch the new “Pet Sematary” movie at home right now.

Plot: Pet Sematary character Jud Crandall has his first run-in with the walking dead in 1969.
Review: If you’re reading this review, you’re probably aware that the Stephen King novel Pet Sematary deals with an ancient Miꞌkmaq Tribe burial ground in the wilderness surrounding the town of Ludlow, Maine. Any dead animal or human that gets buried in this ground will be resurrected – but they don’t come back quite right. In the book, lifelong Ludlow resident Jud Crandall tells the story of Timmy Baterman, a local boy who died in World War II and was buried in the resurrecting ground by his father. That didn’t turn out well. Now, following a 1989 adaptation of Pet Sematary, a sequel to that adaptation, and a 2019 remake / re-adaptation of Pet Sematary, director Lindsey Anderson Beer brings us Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which expands the Timmy Baterman story into feature length… but as...

Guillermo Del Toro often says that a filmography is actually a biography for the filmmaker involved, but in the case of Lindsey Anderson Beer, her filmography doesn’t come close to telling her story.
Beer is currently making her feature directorial debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, a prequel to Stephen King’s classic horror novel Pet Sematary (1983) that explores Jud Crandall’s (Jackson White) backstory and finally defines the Timmy Baterman (Jack Mulhern) story that has only been alluded to in various on-screen adaptations. The Paramount+ film originally began as a prequel to 2019’s Pet Sematary, however, once Beer came on board to write and direct, Bloodlines instead morphed into a prequel to King’s book.
“I was actually not trying to tailor it to the 2019 film. In my head, it’s a prequel to the book,” Beer tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was just trying to do my own thing,...

Stephen King’s small-town horror gets a competently made yet thoroughly unnecessary new chapter, an easily skippable Halloween time-waster
The stratification of streaming content, divided up by individual studio, forced the manic plundering of back catalogues, turning any old property into a new way to lure in subscribers. It was a mostly cursed tactic, leaving us with unwanted answers to questions no one was bothering to ask: what if Gremlins but animated, what if Grease’s pink ladies but prequel, what if Fatal Attraction but Joshua Jackson and what if Sex and the City but terrible?
Unsurprisingly, most of these have failed and as we head toward a contraction of the industry after a record bloat, it seems unlikely that quite as many similar experiments will take place. It leaves a film such as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines feeling even more like a dusty old thing of the past, not...

[Editor's Note: This article was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the film being discussed here wouldn't exist.]
Pet Sematary has long been one of my absolute favorites. It’s one of my favorite Stephen King books, it’s one of my favorite horror films; in fact it’s the film that got me hooked on horror when I was a kid. The story of a father who falls under the spell of an unearthly piece of land and will do anything to restore his family is one that has held my attention and imagination for years. And though the 2019 adaptation didn’t capture my nightmares the way the 1989 film has, I still thought it was a solid effort that would bring the story to another generation of movie audiences.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a reimagining of the Timmy Bateman story that Jud told Lewis Creed in the original book and earlier films. It is a prequel to the 2019 adaptation, which puts the timeline during the Vietnam War.

Paramount+’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines sets up Ludlow, Maine as a town in need of a serious exorcism. A lot of heartache could have been avoided if only its settlers had pulled a Roanoke and left the town to the indigenous population in the area. But they didn’t, and this prequel to Stephen King’s 1983 bestseller fills in details about the town’s history and why reanimating dead loved ones – whether they be covered in fur, feathers, or human skin – is always a bad idea.
Bloodlines reveals that Ludlow has problems that go beyond its misspelled cemetery. The Micmacs knew the woods were evil, the ground was sour, and that death was different there. Centuries later, children built the Pet Sematary on a patch of ground that serves as a gateway between the living and the dead.

In Stephen King’s 1983 novel Pet Sematary, long-term Ludlow resident Jud Crandall relays the town’s history with the cursed burial ground. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, the prequel to the 2019 remake, explores some of that history without any purpose other than to deliver entertaining jolts and a potent reminder that Jud Crandall was right: sometimes dead is better.
Writer/Director Lindsey Anderson Beer, sharing writing credits with Jeff Buhler, sets the prequel in 1969 to introduce a young Jud Crandall (Jackson White), who seeks to leave Ludlow behind with his longtime sweetheart Norma (Natalie Alyn Lind). Never mind that Jud can’t figure out why he’s managed to evade all the Vietnam war drafts; there’s an unspoken sickness rotting the roots of Ludlow, an evil desperate to spread across the town. Jud learns firsthand about the evil when Bill (David Duchovny) buries his son Timmy Baterman (Jack Mulhern) in the cursed burial ground.

Evil, as conceived by Stephen King, is an inexorable force as old as the world itself. It exists in countless forms, some of which can be staved off for a time but none of which can be extinguished permanently. It’s as much a part of the earth as it is a part of us, and it persists in a way none of us can or will.
The best adaptations of King’s work get under the skin as they force you to reckon with such ideas, staying with you in much the same way his books do. “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” is not one of those adaptations. On a scale from “Thinner” to “The Shining,” it falls in the bottom half alongside the likes of last year’s “Firestarter” remake. “Who asked for this?” is the question such projects invoke, and Lindsey Anderson Beer’s film never comes up with a satisfying answer.

Sometimes dead is better, and that's a lesson that "Pet Sematary: Bloodlines" probably should've taken to heart. Maybe it's time to let this horror series stay in its grave. A prequel to "Pet Sematary," arguably Stephen King's scariest novel, is a great idea ... in theory. But Lindsey Anderson Beer's gnarly new movie leaves a lot to be desired; it's a rushed, clumsy, unscary affair that wastes a good premise. It feels edited to hell, as if there was something better, and longer, that got hacked and slashed down to the bloody mess now headed to Paramount+ in time for Halloween season. While there are occasional flashes of gory fun to be had, "Bloodlines" ultimately fails to crawl out of its moldy grave, leaving us with an undead film.
King's novel is a modern gothic affair, the story of an ancient indigenous burial ground that has the power to bring back the dead.

It’s not only children that tell the truth after all…Author Stephen King has taken to social media to let people know that the upcoming prequel film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines isn’t entirely faithful to his original vision, as the scripts takes some “liberties” with the story.
Posting to X/Twitter this week, Stephen King gave a brief rundown of the upcoming Pet Sematary prequel: “Bloodlines: In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary. The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.” Preach it, Stevie!

The Pet Sematary prequel movie has released its official trailer.
Below is look at Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, the upcoming horror film that serves as the first prequel to Stephen King’s classic 1983 novel, which itself has previously been adapted to feature films (in 1989, a sequel in 1992, and remake of the original in 2019).
Bloodlines fleshes out the backstory of the character of Jud Crandall, whose early experience with a haunted burial ground was briefly related in King’s book, but hasn’t previously been depicted in detail onscreen.
The official description: “In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine, behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow. At this year’s Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, the team behind Vampire: The Masquerade showed up in force to debut several projects, including the announcement of the future of Bloodlines II. The game is now coming in 2024, courtesy of new developer The Chinese Room.
This may seem like a massive departure if you’re familiar with The Chinese Room’s previous work, which includes Dear Esther, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and the forthcoming Still Wakes the Deep. Bloodlines II is supposedly a choice-based action RPG, while Tcr’s creative output is mostly narrative adventure games.
They do have a plan here, however. At Pax, I was ushered into an inordinately creepy meeting room in the official Vampire: The Masquerade booth to hear all about it.
