“Stranger Things” and “Enola Holmes” actor Millie Bobby Brown appeared on the “Guilty Feminist” podcast this week (via the Los Angeles Times) and openly discussed how the press and social media users have sexualized her throughout her career. Brown was just 12 years old when “Stranger Things” debuted. The actor turned 18 this past February and noted that she’s already noticed a difference in how much more she’s now being sexualized in the media.
“Any 18-year-old is dealing with navigating being an adult and having relationships and friendships and being liked and trying to fit in,” Brown said. “It’s all a lot, and you’re trying to find yourself while doing that. The only difference is that, obviously, I’m doing that in the public eye, so it can be really overwhelming.”
Brown said she has “definitely been dealing with [being sexualized] more within the last two weeks of turning 18 — definitely...

After spending years solely working on independent films, Robert Pattinson will be starring in two mega-blockbusters. The upcoming July release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” marks Pattinson’s first studio tentpole since he said goodbye to the “Twilight” franchise in 2012. The actor is also playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ 2021 comic book tentpole “The Batman.” Why the sudden return to studio films? Pattinson said in a new GQ interview it has everything to do with bringing “commercial viability” back to this career.
“I started the beginning of last year with no job,” Pattinson said. “And I was calling my agent and just being like — I had gotten good reviews in stuff — and I was like, ‘What the fuck? I thought this was a pretty good year, and I’m fucking starting the year like I’ve just done a pile of trash.’”

After several years spent working with some of the best independent and foreign filmmakers (this year alone brought collaborations with Claire Denis on “High Life” and Robert Eggers on “The Lighthouse”), Robert Pattinson is finally gearing up to return to studio blockbusters with two Warner Bros’ tentpoles: Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” The latter role arguably gives Pattinson’s his most high profile film to date. The actor is no stranger to global blockbusters having starred in the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” franchises, but playing Bruce Wayne/Batman comes with expectations that not even Pattinson has had to live up to in his career.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Pattinson explained that he sought out “The Batman” because “I felt a connection to it, I don’t know why. I just really wanted it. [The role has a] power, which is why everyone is attracted to it. It’s an unidentifiable thing.

UK sales and finance outfit Great Point Media has partnered with U.S. fund manager Mc Credit Partners on a new initiative to finance film and TV projects.
According to the two firms, funds managed by McCp will invest up to $100M in the partnership and Great Point has already committed a minimum of $80M. The commitment marks the first institutional investment for Great Point’s global project finance fund and will be used to back larger-scale media projects.
In September, Great Point Capital partnered with Lionsgate to develop a $100M+ studio complex in Yonkers, New York. Great Point says it is currently assessing seven additional sites for studio development in the UK, U.S. and Europe.
Commenting on the investment, Robert Halmi, Chairman of Great Point Media said, “Since 2013, Great Point Media has produced, financed and distributed more than $600M of content and financed over 170 projects. This commitment from...

Here's something you might not have known about Robert Pattinson's new movie, The Lighthouse: it includes a lengthy scene of him masturbating inside a shed. And here's something you might not have known about Robert Pattinson: he's very happy to discuss it!
The actor stars in the Robert Eggers psychological thriller alongside Willem Dafoe, with the pair playing two lighthouse keepers who are posted on a remote New England island in the late 1800s. Gradually, the men begin to go stir crazy in their surroundings, hallucinating mermaids, keeping grave secrets, spying on each other, and committing acts of violence. Oh, and there's Pattinson's "ferocious masturbation scene," of course! (His words.)

While chatting with Variety in September, Pattinson noted that this actually isn't the first time he's had a masturbation scene. (Remember that big masturbation sequence in Twilight?)(Just kidding.

Hey, Robert Pattinson and Batman fans. Today, we've got great, big news for you guys. It turns out that the internet is currently a buzz over the fact that Warner Bros. Pictures has officially come out and confirmed that the former Twilight Saga main man Robert Pattinson will now jump into his next major role as Batman! Yes, that's right, guys. They are really making another one of these freaking Batman films, and this latest reiteration will feature former Edward Cullen star Robert Pattinson as the headliner according to Variety.com. They say he just closed the deal with Warner Bros. Pictures today, May 31, 2019. So, this is hot off the press. They went on to say that Robert had been in negotiations with the studio back on May 16, 2019. The pre-production of this latest Batman film is scheduled to start up this summer 2019 sometime. Currently, there's no official start date for the filming of "The Batman.

Robert Pattinson evolved from franchise hunk to one of the industry’s most exciting actors when he parlayed his stardom into working for major filmmakers. He wanted risky material, and he didn’t approach with caution; Pattinson dove right in, and in less than a decade he amassed a laundry list of auteur collaborators ranging from David Cronenberg to Claire Denis. That might make his casting as Batman sound counterintuitive: The guy emerged from the baggage of “Twilight” with this substantial filmography, so why retreat to the franchise realm once more?
At the Cannes Film Festival to support “The Lighthouse,” he dodged questions left and right as the news leaked prematurely. However, some fans of Pattinson’s recent choices have explained the decision in purely practical terms: Here’s a handy paycheck gig to ensure this bold performer can hold onto his star power while helping bankroll far more exciting...

After months of speculation as to who would succeed Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, Robert Pattinson has been cast as the lead in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.” Along with his role in Christopher Nolan’s untitled new project, it marks a major return to big-budget fare for the “Twilight” star after several years of collaborating with revered auteurs on movies like “Good Time” and “High Life.”
Affleck played the sullen superhero in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad,” and “Justice League”; the two-time Oscar winner was also originally set to helm “The Batman” in addition to starring. The trio of films in which he played Gotham’s best-known vigilante were widely considered disappointments among fans and proved less financially successful than Warner Bros. would have liked.

Ten years ago, no one would believe — of all the franchises in Hollywood — the blockbuster movie series that would yield the most compelling actors would end up being “The Twilight Saga.” We all know about Kristen Stewart’s extraordinary arthouse endeavors, but the Edward to her Bella is every bit as committed to diving deep into character and working with visionary directors. Robert Pattinson made legions of young women swoon, but the roles he’s chosen since the Stephenie Meyer franchise ended have been as colorful as his romantic vampire was pale.
Like Robert Redford and Brad Pitt before him, Pattinson exudes a profound ambivalence about his heartthrob status and a desire to be thought of as far more than a handsome face. And, like his predecessors, he’s done the work to prove it. Even going back to his Ya origins as Cedric Diggory in the “Harry Potter” films or as Edward in “Twilight,...

As the vampire stud of the Twilight franchise, Robert Pattinson hit multiplex paydirt. Since then, he’s been raising his personal bar in the indie sphere (Good Time, Damsel). The star does himself proud in this elusive but bracing brainteaser from Claire Denis, the great French filmmaker (Beau Travail, Trouble Every Day) who’d much rather challenge audiences than coddle them. High Life is the writer-director’s first film in English, and the only one set in space. In the script she wrote with Jean-Pol Fargeau, her concerns about existence...

Claire Denis has been making movies for over three decades, which makes it somewhat of a surprise 2019 will finally see the release of her first English-language directorial effort. The film, “High Life,” finds Denis putting her own unique stamp on the space movie, just as Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan, Damian Chazelle, and more celebrated auteurs have done in the past. And yet, nothing can really prepare viewers for what “High Life” has in store for them.
“High Life” stars Robert Pattinson as a prisoner traveling aboard a spaceship on a mission to find alternative energy. The mission is being overseen by a doctor (Juliette Binoche) who is using the prisoners for her own mysterious purposes. While “High Life” reviews out of fall festivals last year have spoiled some of the extreme surprises of the movie, to say more about the plot would be a disservice to Denis’ vision.

Christopher Abbott and Mia Wasikowska in ‘Piercing’
After playing repressed or relatively stable characters in period dramas such as Damsel and Madame Bovary, Mia Wasikowska jumped at the chance to go to the dark side in Piercing.
She plays a disturbed escort named Jackie in Us writer-director Nicolas Pesce’s gory S&M horror/thriller Piercing, which opened today in Australia after premiering at Sundance.
Jackie turns the tables on Reed (Christopher Abbott), a married guy with a new baby who checks into a hotel and calls for an escort with murderous intent. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse ensues.
The Aussie actress initially was cast as Reed’s wife but was offered the co-lead a week and a half before shooting was due to start. “I had 24 hours to rethink the whole thing and decided to do it on a whim, before I had the chance to over-think it,” she tells If.

Nicolas Pesce earned critical acclaim for his directorial debut “The Eyes of My Mother,” a twisted serial killer drama widely regarded as one of the best horror films of 2016, and now he’s back in equally gruesome fashion with “Piercing.” Pesce’s latest premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is adapted from the 1994 Japanese novel of the same by Ryu Murakami.
“Piercing” stars Christopher Abbott as a businessman hired to check into a hotel and kill an unsuspecting prostitute, played by indie darling Mia Wasikowska with fearless conviction. Unfortunately for the man, the prostitute he chooses to kill ends up being more intelligent, more twisted, and even more blood-thirty than he ever imagined. The supporting cast includes Laia Costa, Olivia Bond, and Marin Ireland.
In his review out of Sundance, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn called “Piercing” a “swift tribute to Takashi Miike’s ‘Audition’ filtered through Quentin-Tarantinoesque exuberance.

Chicago – Families dealing with the effects of aging parents – which include dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease – can experience a new film which explores these topics through the family dynamic. “What They Had” is writer/director Elizabeth Chomko’s debut, and features Robert Forster, Blythe Danner, Hilary Swank and Michael Shannon.

Forster and Danner portray an elder couple from Chicago, who are being pressured by their children (Michael Shannon and Hilary Swank) to provide dementia care for Danner’s character, who is mentally slipping away. Taut and emotional, it features fine performances from all the principal players, including Forster as a man of his generation who isn’t used to ultimately not taking care of his castle and family. The film recently had a Red Carpet screening at the 54th Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff), and is currently in release nationwide.

Clouds of Sils Maria (Olivier Assayas)
Movies about making movies often get a bad rap; there’s just a presumed pretentiousness that goes along with watching filmmakers and actors defending their craft. So when it turns out that Clouds of Sils Maria is actually a beautifully directed and acted defense of the timelessness and universal value of storytelling in all forms, what could have been a European Birdman actually becomes something so much more. – Brian R.

Custody (Xavier Legrand)
It didn’t win the Oscar for best live action short in 2014, but Xavier Legrand’s Just Before Losing Everything was by far my favorite nominee.
