If you're a fan of rock and roll legend David Bowie, HBO has a new documentary coming out called David Bowie: The Last Five Years and today we have the first trailer for you to watch! The film chronicles the last five year of Bowie's life, the evolution of his music, and it puts a focus on his final two albums, which are "The Next Day" from 2013, and "Blackstar", which was released in 2016, Bowie's 69th birthday, just two days before his death. The doc will also touch on the rock stage musical "Lazarus", which he barely completed before he passed away.
As a long time fan of Bowie, this is a film I'm very much looking forward to watching. It looks like it will be a moving tribute to the legendary rock star.

There’s a fine line between purposefully obscure and totally incomprehensible. Last season’s great musical “Lazarus” achieved the latter to remarkable effect in its presentation of a two-hour nightmare that was as scary and indecipherable as a surrealist masterpiece by Ernst or Tanguy. When you couldn’t follow the musical’s book by Enda Walsh, there were David Bowie songs, Ivo van Hove’s direction, and Jan Versweyveld’s scenic design to sweep you up and carry you along. Walsh returns this season without those collaborators for his new play, “Arlington,” which opened Wednesday at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York City.

A video essay examines our most private moments.
Strap on your thinking caps for this one, film fans, because it’s a doozy.
According to director Nicolas Roeg (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Don’t Look Now, The Witches), mirrors are cinema in all its glory and in fact the essence of the medium. See, mirrors are the only time we truly look at ourselves; photographs of us are from other perspectives, for other people or posterity, and as such we don’t show our real faces in them, we show projections of who we think we should be or how we think we should feel in a certain situation. But the mirror isn’t public, it’s private, it is us alone with ourselves and thus the way we look into mirrors, into ourselves, is different from every other face we show the world.

David Bowie’s final album “Blackstar” may not have been the singer-songwriter’s so-called death record. Jonah Renck, the director of the music video for Bowie’s single “Lazurus,” told the Guardian that the concept of the video was conceived before Bowie knew his cancer was terminal, and that it was his idea — not Bowie’s — to have the singer lie in a hospital bed for the video.

“I immediately said ‘the song is called Lazarus, you should be in the bed’,” Renck told the Guardian. “To me it had to do with the biblical aspect of it … it had nothing to do with him being ill.”

Fact Magazine reports that a new David Bowie documentary will be out next year, courtesy of the BBC. This look back at the late icon is being helmed and produced by Francis Whately, as a follow-up to his previous Thin White Duke doc, David Bowie—Five Years. This latest endeavor, titled David Bowie: The Last Five Years, includes previously unseen footage of Bowie hard at work on his final two albums, The Next Day and Blackstar. Bow down to the queen of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Beyoncé’s “Formation” was the top winner Sunday night, taking home the Vma for Best Direction.
Directed by Melina Matsoukas, the video made its debut on February 6 and sparked a whirlwind of admirers and critics who gave it mixed responses for its alleged anti-police stance (which the singer denied.) The song was Bey’s first single off her sixth studio album, “Lemonade,” and was performed live for the first time during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.
“Formation” was shot in Los Angeles and features references to Hurricane Katrina, antebellum and Louisiana Creole culture, police brutality, racism and black pride. The five-minute video also includes spoken words by New Orleans artist Big Freedia and Messy Mya, who was murdered in New Orleans in 2010.

It’s hard to imagine MTV holding the interest of anyone over the age of 16, but these days they don’t even come across as being in touch enough for the younger demographic. This year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) nominees have been announced, and for the most part the network seems intent on shoving the same artists down our throats that it did five years ago.
You can count the DJ/producers nominated for VMAs in 2016 on one hand: Calvin Harris, 99 Souls, Afrojack, Alesso and The Chainsmokers. Even Skrillex and SeeB’s names were left curiously absent from the nominations for Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza,” respectively, even though the latter song marks Posner’s first relevant single since 2011.

Denis Leary might seem like the kind of guy who celebrates the conflict that comes with creative collaboration. But the creator and star of FX’s”Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” is quick to champion another writer for the show’s new energy in Season 2.

Leary credited one of the show’s new writers, Julieanne Smolinski, for helping enhance the storylines of Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) and Ava (Elaine Hendrix). “It doesn’t matter how many women you know and how many times you’ve tried to keep your eyes and your ears open to gain information for writing purposes, you’re never going to be able to write a woman the way a woman could,” he said.
The new season of “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” also pays tribute to David Bowie, including some old concert footage of the glam rocker at his prime.

Things get debauched in the penultimate episode of series 3 as Tommy and the boys make a visit to the Russians…
This review contains spoilers.
Peaky Blinders has always been a crossbreed. Part-drama, part music-video, it plays its record collection loudly and deliberately, at times coming off like a studiously cool dad when your mates are round, at other times the marriage of music and visuals stopping you dead.
After his death, David Bowie’s self-written epitaph Lazarus took on autobiographical significance. Its appearance here then, borrowed to tell the story of another man, should have felt jarring to a fan. That not only it didn’t, but felt as if the song had been written for Tommy Shelby shows what a rare union Peaky Blinders makes between music and story. It’s also testament to the modernity of these characters that Bowie can sing about cell phones...

Two months ago a concert of David Bowie's music was announced - Famous fans would sing Bowie's songs at Carnegie Hall in New York City in March. Club owner Michael Dorf had intended the show - the tickets for which would raise money for arts education - as a tribute to a living legend. But the day of the announcement, Bowie died at age 69 and the concert was quickly recast as a celebration of a musical life cut short. The timing, said Dorf, of City Winery, led to an outpouring of "fellow artists wanting to show their respect and...

When Cristin Milioti signed on to the TV adaptation of Fargo, she had seen only the 1996 movie that inspired it — one of her all-time favorite films. What sold her on the show, though, was the depth of her proposed character. "It's not often that a strong female role comes across one's desk, unfortunately, but it's getting better," the actress, calling from her home in Brooklyn, says. "I liked that the character has incredible inner strength during this tumultuous time, not only for her community but for her family and herself.

The late David Bowie brought something down to earth (literally, in one case) to his film acting roles. We look at his film acting roles.
Editor's note: we don't like to run material to generate clicks off the death of someone. We did, however, want to talk about the wonderful film and TV work that the late, great David Bowie has left behind. Hence, we've thus held this piece back to now. If it still feels too soon, then do give it a miss.
David Bowie's state of existence at the time of performing influenced his musical ‘personas’ enormously. Though such characters as Diamond Dogs’ Halloween Jack or Ashes To Ashes’ Pierrot seem superficially too outré and theatrical to be based in anything real, retrospectively we can see a private life exposed: Bowie’s exposure to fame and feelings of being an outsider informed the Ziggy...
