It’s not uncommon for shows to lose their spark when they go on for too long, and this is pretty apparent in most CW shows, especially the Arrowverse, which kickstarted with Arrow in 2012. Despite starting on a high note that led to The Flash’s launch, which too was showered with laudation by fans and critics, there wasn’t a constant flow of quality in their latter seasons.
In hindsight, it’s not surprising to see why this was the case, as Marc Guggenheim, one of its creators, recalled they didn’t initially start out with an interconnected universe in mind.

After concluding April with discussions of Ciarán Foy’s Eli (listen) and David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ (listen), we kicked off May with a revisit of Stephen Sommers’ delightful 1999 film, The Mummy (listen).
Now we’re headed into the past with Terence Young‘s adaptation of Frederick Knott‘s “disabled woman in danger” play, Wait Until Dark (1967).
In the film, recently blind Susy (Audrey Hepburn) is menaced by a trio of strange men, including sexually perverse ring leader Roat (Alan Arkin), “nice guy” Talman (Richard Crenna) and portly Carlino (Jack Weston). The men are looking for a doll full of heroin, which is located somewhere in her apartment, but she doesn’t know where!
Can Susy figure out the scam with the help of upstairs neighbor girl Gloria (Julie Herrod) or will she wind up hanging in the closet like Roat’s poor accomplice Lisa (Samantha Jones)?

Exclusive: Madeline Brewer has been cast in Netflix’s hit psychological drama You for the show’s fifth and final season.
In a series regular role, Brewer will portray Bronte, an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright who comes to work for Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) at his bookstore. As the two connect over literature and loss, she stokes in him a nostalgia for his former self, causing him to question everything his life has become.
You, based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, revolves around the question, “What would you do for love?” The series follows Joe Goldberg, a man who will do just about anything when love is at stake.
Season 4 was set in London where Joe took on the new identity of Jonathan Moore, an English professor, while following Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) around Europe. Details regarding the focus...

As shocking as it may seem to people who are having trouble admitting they’re old (myself included), Denzel Washington’s post-apocalyptic action film, “The Book of Eli,” is turning 14 this year. Yes, that means there are kids who will attend high school this year that were born the same year ‘Eli’ was released. Even though we don’t want to admit it, the idea of a prequel series doesn’t feel all that crazy, considering the film has been sitting on the shelf for well over a decade.

Alright, who here saw John Boyega on a fast track to stardom after "The Force Awakens" and said something along the lines of, "Boy, he sure seems like the next Denzel Washington?" without knocking on wood first? Because that monkey's paw has started to curl something fierce and left us with the latest batch of franchise IP news -- one that'll excite the more innocent among us while leaving the rest slightly jaded and cynical. What a time to be alive, folks.
So, remember when the Hughes brothers teamed up with "Rogue One" writer Gary Whitta on a 2010 apocalyptic movie by the name of "The Book of Eli" and we all agreed that it was a pretty solid piece of original genre work with something meaningful on its mind? That might feel like more and more of a foreign concept these days, especially compared to the current state of original sci-fi.

Following a November theatrical release, Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here, check out our interview with Roth at This Link) received a PVOD release at the end of last month (you can rent or buy it on Amazon), and now Sony has confirmed that Thanksgiving is going to receive a digital release on January 16th, with a Blu-ray and DVD release to follow on January 30th.

On July 14, only one week ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, SAG-AFTRA called its first strike since the 1980s.
The West Coast convention had braced for a limited writers’ presence after the Writers Guild began their own work stoppage two months earlier, but the event was still tentatively on track for A-list appearances from Hollywood’s performers union, including the cast of Dune: Part 2. The SAG strike, however, then shuttered those plans almost completely, returning the world’s most high-profile entertainment and pop culture convention to its comics programming roots.
Animation, screenings, activations, TV and film crafts teams, and a smattering of directors’ appearances, became the central focus alongside two strike-related panels, one consisting of WGA showrunners and writers, and another tied to voice acting and AI featuring SAG-AFTRA leaders.
At the time, it wasn’t clear how long the double strike would last, and some wondered if New York Comic Con,...

The Continental: From the World of John Wick director Albert Hughes first crossed paths with John Wick masterminds Chad Stahelski and David Leitch in 2008. At the time, Stahelski and Leitch had only recently decided to make the jump from stunt work to the director’s chair, beginning with second unit. So they interviewed for the second-unit gig on The Book of Eli, which Hughes co-directed alongside his twin brother, Allen. Stahelski and Leitch didn’t end up with the job, but it didn’t stop them from achieving their directorial dream a handful of years later when they co-directed the Keanu Reeves actioner John Wick.
Nearly a decade later, John Wick is one of the preeminent action franchises, boasting four films, each of which has outgrossed its predecessors at the box office, with a fifth on the way. Stahelski reminded Hughes of their encounter 15 years earlier during a Zoom meeting...

Five years after "The Nun" became the biggest movie in the history of The Conjuring Universe, Valak the demon nun is back for more. That's right! After being caught in development and, no thanks to the pandemic, delayed for a little while, "The Nun II" is finally upon us, with Bonnie Aarons returning as Valak and Taissa Farmiga suiting up once again as Sister Irene to fight the evil being in the lord's name. Let's get ready to rumble.
It's clear that Warner Bros. has no plans on ending this franchise any time soon, as "The Conjuring 4" and a TV series set in the universe are already in the works. So, does "The Nun II" contain any teases of what's to come? Does this sequel contain a post-credits scene of some kind? We're here to give you a spoiler-free answer to that question, as well as some context to help...

Yesterday, we got a look at a poster for director Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving, which is set to reach theatres on November 17, 2023 – the Friday before this Thanksgiving. (That poster can be found at the bottom of this article.) Now the folks at Rotten Tomatoes have gotten the first look at the teaser trailer for the film, and you can check it out in the embed above!
Thanksgiving is based on the faux trailer Roth made for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse sixteen years ago. He has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made that faux trailer, and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. Now the feature has finally happened, thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding. Roth jumped at the chance to get the movie made,...

Of all of the young actors to break through thanks to the success of "Stranger Things," Sadie Sink has had arguably one of the most interesting career trajectories. Sink got her start on Broadway playing the titular role of "Annie," and had a handful of TV appearances on shows like "The Americans" and "Blue Bloods" before nabbing a main role in "American Odyssey." Unfortunately, that show only lasted one season, canceled by NBC only two days after the season finale. When Sink was cast as Max Mayfield on "Stranger Things" in season 2, she immediately became a fan favorite. Max has become the bleeding heart of the series, and her popularity even prevented show creators, The Duffer Brothers, from killing off the character in season 4 as originally planned.
Following "Stranger Things," Sink has continued to thrive by starring in "Fear Street: 1978," Taylor Swift's short film, "All Too Well," Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale,...

Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.
To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023) starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault lands at Max after its theatrical release in February this year. Another major theatrical release from 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), swims onto the streamer starting June 7.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. Discovery’s big change to its premier streaming service was simply to take the “HBO” off of the name “HBO Max,” leaving just “Max.” But in announcing its list of new releases for Max in June 2023, Warner is highlighting all of the HBO content anyway. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.
Even though June 2023 is the first full month of Max’s existence without the helpful “HBO” modifier in front of it, literally all of its major original offerings are thanks to the pay cable network. Even in the streaming wars era, with programmers gambling on new concepts in order to gain and retain subscribers, schedules aren’t brimming with musicals. That’s because TV musicals are hard. And as a general rule, they rarely stick — even when well executed.
Sure, for every “Galavant” and “Eli Stone” there’s a “Glee,” a “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” or a “Smash,” which was a delightful disaster for two seasons. But even “Glee” had its own set of pacing and storyline problems after the surprising first season. “Smash” failed to catch fire in the ratings despite its cult following, and “Zoey” barely held on during its two-season (and a movie) run. As for Apple TV+’s “Schmigadoon!,” the proof will be in the (corn) pudding as to whether it can sustain its momentum when Season 2 debuts this month.
Part of the problem is that TV musicals are divisive. You...

In early 2021, things started to fall apart for Pheelz. That February, he released his debut EP, Hear Me Out, following nearly two decades of producing some of Afrobeats’ greatest hits. The EP was relatively successful, racking up millions of streams all around, but the process cost Pheelz a lot of money, leaving a huge dent in his finances.
Then, his girlfriend ended their five-year relationship, and his best friend of 15 years sent him a text one night, abruptly declaring their friendship over (for reasons Pheelz declines to expand on). “It...

Jack Kesy (12 Strong) has landed the lead role in Millennium Media’s Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Mike Mignola, creator of the Hellboy comics, wrote the screenplay with Chris Golden, and Brian Taylor (Crank) is on board to direct.
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost,” stated Co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger.
In addition to 12 Strong and The Outpost, Kesy’s credits include Dark Web: Cicadia 3301, Without Remorse, Mosquito State, Deadpool 2, Baywatch, and Eli Roth’s Death Wish. He recently wrapped up work on Murder at Hollow Creek and Sheroes.
Ron Perlman took on the character in 2004’s Hellboy and 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army, both directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Addison Rae is one of the biggest names in social media. She has 88.9 million followers on TikTok and also happens to be the video-hosting service’s highest earning contributor. She has been able to use her TikTok popularity to segue into singing and acting careers (she recently starred in Netflix’s She’s All That reboot He’s All That), and now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that she has signed on to star in director Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is based on the faux trailer Roth created for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, which was released way back in 2007. Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving for sixteen years and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. Now it’s finally happening, thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding.

Sadie Sink is addressing what no Stranger Things fan wants to talk about — the ending of the cult-classic series.
On the Today show Wednesday, the actress, who plays Max Mayfield in the Netflix sci-fi-horror drama, opened up about what it’s going to be like filming the fifth and final season.
“It’s going to be awful. It’s going to be horrible. These kids, this entire cast and crew, this is, like — I mean, it’s family. People say it all the time, but I genuinely mean it,” Sink said. “And to think that we have to kind of say goodbye to that security and knowing that we won’t be seeing each other for another season, it’s scary and sad, but I think it’s exciting to move on to the next chapter.”
