The 1984 film Splash launched Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah to international fame, and with remake fever on the brain over at the Mouse House, Deadline reports that Disney is currently developing a new remake with an interesting take: instead of a man falling for a mermaid, a woman will fall for a merman.
Comedian Jillian Bell (The Night Before, Workaholics) reportedly came up with the pitch, and the plan is for her to star opposite her 22 Jump Street co-star Channing Tatum. Tatum as a merman sounds super bizarre, but at least it's a fascinating take. They've hired Marja-Lewis Ryan (who worked with Bell on an upcoming project called Liked) to write the screenplay, and original director Ron Howard will produce alongside his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer.

Disney Pictures is set to remake Ron Howard's 1984 sleeper fantasy rom-com hit "Splash," but is putting a twist on the concept.
The original film starred Tom Hanks as a young man who falls in love with a mysterious woman (Daryl Hannah) who is secretly a mermaid. The new take swaps around the genders of the roles, making it a young woman who falls for a merman.
The project is being developed for Channing Tatum to take on the merman part and his "22 Jump Street" co-star Jillian Bell to play the human role. Bell came up with the pitch and now has hired Marja-Lewis Ryan ("Liked," "Unsupervised") to pen the script.
Tatum, Howard, Brian Grazer, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran will produce.

Opening this Friday, April 8 is one of the more innovative action films you’re likely to see anytime soon when Hardcore Henry opens nationwide.
It’s the directorial debut by Ilya Naishuller, a Russian punk rocker-turned-filmmaker who caught the eye of Russia’s most successful filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) with the music video for his band Biting Elbows, and the two of them set out to create something similar for the big screen. (You can watch Ilya’s original video here, but Warning: it’s not really safe for work or for young kids.)
The Hardcore Henry of the title is a man who died but was brought back to life by his wife (Haley Bennett), who is then promptly kidnapped by a powerful warlord named Akan (Danila Kozlovsky) who sends his army of mercenaries to stop Henry from getting her back. Then there’s the mysterious Jimmy (Sharlto Copley...
