Is the first Jesse Stone telefilm to premiere on Hallmark Channel. CBS chose not to make any more films after the eighth film Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (2012) for demographic reasons, despite relatively high ratings and a loyal fanbase. Tom Selleck waited three years for the right offer to be made, and wanted to maintain the production quality set in the first eight films. Hallmark Channel often repeated the first eight films, which made them the natural choice to continue the series.
This is the ninth in the series of made-for-television films featuring Jesse Stone and the first of a two picture deal with Hallmark.
Is the first Jesse Stone film to not feature Stephen McHattie (Captain Healy). He appeared in all eight previous films. The reason for Healy's absence is due to him being on vacation in Florida.
In the opening scene, Jesse Stone is asked where he has been for the past two years. He says, "Fighting crime" (a recurring line in the film series). Tom Selleck also stars in Blue Bloods (2010) as a police commissioner.
Production was announced in March 2015 and filming took place in May 2015 in Nova Scotia.
