An exciting and welcomed twist to the Emmy race for outstanding television movie has arrived, as Mimi Cave’s horror-comedy “Fresh,” starring Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones, is being submitted for Primetime Emmy consideration.
This offers an interesting possibility in a category that hasn’t drummed up much excitement over the last couple of years. While buzzy titles like “Bad Education” and three consecutive “Black Mirror” episodes dominated, the soulful purpose of the category has seemed to be missing. Last year’s winner, “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square,” was the only film of the five other nominees to have another Emmy nomination.
Since the separation of the TV movie and limited series categories in 1992 (merged again in 2011 before being separated again in 2014), there’s never been a traditional horror film nominated in the category. So while the category is stacked with contenders such as HBO’s “The Survivor” from...

Radar Films, the Mediawan-owned production banner, is reteaming with “The Deep House” filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo on “North Sentinel.” The well-established company, which is headed by Clement Miserez and Matthieu Warter, is developing several other English-language projects including a genre twist on “The Phantom of the Opera” directed by Xavier Gens (“The Divide”).
Rolling off “The Deep House,” an underwater horror film that was just acquired by Blumhouse and Epix, Maury and Bustillo will next direct “North Sentinel.” Pic is inspired by the true story of an explorer who set off to visit a dangerous island located deep in the Indian Ocean, where a tribe of indigenous people live, and was killed. Visiting the island or going anywhere near it has been banned by the Indian government. “North Sentinel” will revolve around a young American woman who embarks on a journey to the island in order find her missing brother.

Directed by leading stop motion animation directors Emma de Swaef, Marc Roels, Niki Lindroth von Bahr and Paloma Baeza and produced by Nexus Studios, The Dark centers on a house and the three surreal tales of the individuals who made it their home.
“The characters in The House, albeit in different ways, are all trying to make sense of the world and their place within it. It’s about their flawed attempt to conform to an idea of who they think they are or who they think they ought to be,” said Charlotte Basso, Producer. “And whether they manage to break free or not. They were called “video nasties” — those 1980s slasher flicks and splatter films filled with sexual violence, graphic depictions of murder and gallons of Caro syrup that, for a brief moment, were considered the root of all evil in Thatcher-era Britain. For years, some of the genre’s most extreme examples, whether homegrown or imported, were considered cinema non grata by U.K. censors. When videotapes hit the market, however, a number of horror movies considered too dangerous for the general public found their way into folks’ VCRs, and suddenly, you...

Courteney Cox might have found her real-life Ross.
The Friends star pricelessly recreated her famous dance “routine” with singer Ed Sheeran on Instagram. For the uninitiated out there, “the routine” was a dance number Ross (David Schwimmer) and his sister Monica (Cox) performed in an episode on season 6, “The One With The Routine.” In the now-famous episode, the sibling duo brought the rehearsed act out of hibernation in an attempt to gain the camera’s attention on the “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” set.
Though not as flush as the original, the Grammy Award-winner was in sync with Cox until she hilariously jumped on Sheeran, taking the two into the ground.
Cox wrote, “just some routine dancing with a friend…” with the hashtag “ReRoutine.”

Welcome to Iceland, where the temperature is below freezing, and a large group of challengers unites in Covid-19 times to win their share of $1 million.
The Challenge Season 36 Episode 1 introduced new rookies, returning favorites, and game-changing twists. The result was a wildly satisfying installment of this beloved franchise.
Instead of sticking with the same rules as The Challenge Season 35, the "Double Agents" twist appears to be an attempt at reinventing the wheel.
It was upsetting that Johnny Bananas and Jenny West decided against returning, but coming off their recent wins made sense.
Going from a winner to a loser would sting, especially in the same year.
The casting team really pulled it out of the bag with Double Agents, bringing a new wave of rookies who very well could be winning material.

It was hard to imagine feeling sorry for David Alexander on “Big Brother 22” a month ago after Davidgate and his general gameplay ignorance, but now it’s hard not to feel sorry for him. Da’Vonne Rogers and Kevin Campbell — the former especially — are still under Dani Briones and Nicole Franzel‘s spell and don’t believe David that he had voted to evict Tyler Crispen last week. But justice for David will be served because Tyler is not going to use the Veto on either of them.
It’s really hysterical that Memphis Garrett went through this elaborate plan to backdoor David of all people and it’s not even going to work. He had asked people to throw the Veto, and while he was annoyed that Tyler didn’t, he’s not too pissed that he’s not going to use it because he ultimately doesn’t care who...

“Good Boys” was quite a surprise for box office analysts this weekend. Riding off of strong reviews and audience word of mouth, Universal’s raunchy comedy about a group of sixth graders wading into the world of girls and hormones has earned a $21 million opening this weekend, nearly double the $11 million opening set by independent projections prior to release.
“It seems that Universal has cracked the comedy code and thus has been somewhat immune to the movie comedy curse by releasing a steady lineup of original and appealing comedies that have bucked the trend of audience indifference,” comScore’s Paul Dergarabedian told TheWrap.
It’s a win for comedy movies at a time when such success is becoming increasingly rare for the genre. But while other studios have contributed those occasional hits in the last three years — Warner Bros.’ “Game Night” and Lionsgate’s “Madea” series come to mind — the...
