While the holiday season packs theaters with awards-hopeful films, J-Lo offers her fans a lighter option with Second Act. Jennifer Lopez has not appeared in a movie for awhile, so perhaps her fans are ready to see her on the big screen again. Second Act may be on a big screen but its story is as much television as movie, a mash-up of wish fulfillment fantasy and sit-com stand-bys. J-Lo fans herself may be enough for her fans but others might skip this snoozer.
There is a J-Lo hit, “Limitless,” in the soundtrack but she does not do any singing in the film. She does dance a little in a couple of scenes, and those are actually the most entertaining moments in Second Act.

"Yeah, look at me, I'm limitless." As for the music video, loyal fans will easily spot Jennifer's...

Jennifer Lopez epitomizes the phrase “she’s done it all” — but there’s still more that the superstar would like to do.
Lopez recently directed her first music video, “Limitless,” the track featured on her new rom-com “Second Act,” and it seems the multi-hyphenate has caught the directing bug.
“Absolutely, absolutely,” Lopez responded when asked by Variety if she wants to direct more in television and film.
“It was a lot of fun,” she said about directing the music video in which her daughter appears.
“This is a song that Sia wrote for the movie. It’s the anthem for ‘Second Act.’ I asked her watch the movie and tell me what you think — if you’re inspired, write something, and she wrote ‘Limitless,’ which is: I thought I had to be somebody else, but look at me now, I’m limitless,” Lopez told reporters Wednesday evening at the New...

Jennifer Lopez is one proud mom. The pop star and actress directed her first video, a clip for her song "Limitless," featured on the soundtrack of her new comedy Second Act. "I said no for a long time and then finally I said yes. and I said, 'Baby, are you sure? You can't, halfway through, say you're tired. We have to do it.' The art of being a movie star includes good timing. Take the American Cinematheque Tribute to Bradley Cooper on Thursday night. These events usually burnish star luster, as in the case of recent recipients Amy Adams, Matt Damon, or Matthew McConaughey. But when such a tribute unfolds at the height of an Oscar campaign, it can move the needle. “A Star Is Born” scored Best Director and Actress at the National Board of Review this week, which reflects the movie’s current status as the frontrunner for Best Picture, Actress, and Actor at awards site Gold Derby.
These events are carefully curated. Warner Bros. put this event in motion two years ago, with the fall 2018 release date of “A Star Is Born” in mind. And while Cooper self-deprecatingly mocked the huge posters and program covers all around the Beverly Hilton ballroom — in George-Clooney style — when I greeted him at his table,...

It shouldn’t feel like a crazy idea to suggest that “Paddington 2” should be a serious player in this year’s awards race. Yes, a sequel hasn’t been nominated for Best Picture since “Mad Max: Fury Road” in 2015, and a “kids’ movie” hasn’t made the cut since “Toy Story 3” in 2010.
True, “Paddington 2” came out in January — a month that belongs to the previous year, so far as the Oscar season is concerned — and yes, the story of a computer-generated bear trying to retrieve a pop-up book for his aunt (also a computer-generated bear) might look a little silly next to a sweeping historical epic like “Roma” or a zeitgeist-destroying love story like “A Star Is Born.” While there’s no denying that Hugh Grant brilliantly reinterprets the music of Stephen Sondheim, it’s hard to compete with Lady Gaga forever transforming the soul of Jackson Maine.

It’s kind of silly that Hollywood rarely takes chances on original concepts. In 2007 the USA Network series The 4400 aired its final episode. It was a decent series for its time, but now The CW wants to reboot it.
The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios, which produced the original series and the project is being developed by Taylor Elmore and Craig Sweeny. They will co-write the pilot for the reboot and executive produce, with Elmore set to serve as showrunner.

The CW is in development on a reboot of “The 4400,” TheWrap has learned.
Co-written and executive produced by Craig Sweeny and Taylor Elmore, the drama from CBS Television Studios is a reimagining of the USA network series which ran for four seasons beginning in 2004.
In the series, 4,400 young adults in their reproductive prime have gone missing all over the world — some disappearances happened as recently as a few weeks ago, while others date as far back as the infamous day the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite in 1957. One day in 2019, all 4,400 show up at the sites of their original abductions. None of them have aged a day; none have any memory of where they’ve been. The so-called “4400” must grapple with their return to a changed and hostile world… and also contend with the reality that they’ve come back altered in ways that none of them yet understand.

The project is being shephered by Taylor Elmore and Craig Sweeny, both of whom are under overall deals at the studio. Elmore and Sweeny will co-write the pilot for the reboot and executive produce, with Elmore set to serve as showrunner should the project move forward.
In the series, over the course of recent history, four thousand four hundred young adults in their reproductive prime have gone missing all over the world. Some disappearances happened as recently as a few weeks ago, while others date as far back as the day the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite in 1957. One day in 2019, all 4,400 show up at the sites of their original abductions. None...

What happened? Somehow the American Music Awards turned out to be bizarrely undisastrous this year. As cheesy award shows go, this one has always been on a sub-cheddar level, usually held back for the holiday season and usually totally ignored. But for some reason, the AMAs decided to be a big deal last night, packing the show with stellar performances, from Taylor to Cardi. They invited Khalid instead of Khaled. They did an Aretha Franklin tribute that focused on music instead of Madonna giving a speech. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted in style,...

Elections have consequences, and by electing Taylor Swift as the American Music Awards’ artist of the year, pop fans gave the superstar another platform from which to spread her crazy, incendiary, rabble-rousing entreaties to… find a polling place. “Every single award given out tonight was voted on by the people,” Swift said, upon picking up her third and final award of the evening, “and you know what else is voted on by the people is the midterm elections Nov. 6. Get out and vote.” As if we needed a reason to like her about 25% more right now.
No one would accuse the AMAs of getting repeatedly or unusually political in the broadcast that took place from L.A. Microsoft Theater Tuesday night, but one presenter did take a cue from Swift, and that was presenting comedian Billy Eichner, who took the audience to church as he sermonized, “Young people of America,...

It’s the weekend which many film fans have circled on their calendars with the premiere of Bradley Cooper‘s directorial debut, the fourth edition of “A Star Is Born.” Cooper had worked for years to develop the film, serving as the film’s star (opposite Lady Gaga), director, co-producer, co-writer, and he co-authored two of the film’s songs as well. Cooper, who has worked with some of the finest film directors around, such as Clint Eastwood and David O. Russell, obviously has picked up from them how to incorporate the many elements that go into making a film.
Cooper, who made his feature acting debut in 2001’s “Wet Hot American Summer,” found his stardom grow along with his filmography. He is one of only 10 men who have been nominated for acting Oscars three years in a row. He also earned a fourth Academy Award nomination for producing Best Picture nominee “American Sniper.

Kevin Hart takes on a semi-serious role in the upcoming film The Upside. In the film he plays struggling man with a criminal record who lands a job taking care of a wealthy paraplegic, played by Bryan Cranston.
The film is a remake of the 2011 French film called The Intouchables. It’s based on a true story and the film offers audiences a comedic look at the relationship between these two individuals. Hart and Cranston are certainly an interesting team up, but it looks like they play great off each other! This looks like it will be great film that tells an inspirational story with some fun comedy.
The movie was directed by Neil Burger and it also stars Nicole Kidman, Julianna Margulies, Aja Naomi King, and Tate Donovan.
The Upside hits theaters January 11, 2019.

Stx Entertainment has released the first trailer for their English-language remake of The Intouchables, The Upside.
Based on a true story, the story follows an ex-con (Kevin Hart) as he takes on a job to care for a paralysed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) striking up the unlikeliest of friendships.
The Untouchables was released in 2011 and was directed by Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano. It stars François Cluzet and Omar Sy. The film has received several award nominations. “He’s the kind of hot where, trust me, when he’s in front of you, you would just grab your ankles,” Amy Schumer said about Bradley Cooper in her “Saturday Night Live” monologue. And yet of course, Cooper has gone from relative obscurity and bit parts on television to playing perfect asshole types to now being looked at as a bona fide auteur after his directorial debut. Cooper’s good looks, charm and humor have kept him out of action hero roles and superhero tights and made him better suited to play over-eager boyfriends and charismatic jerks. His latest film “A Star is Born” has him playing opposite Lady Gaga and channeling Eddie Vedder. Here’s Cooper’s evolution across the years.
“Sex and the City” (1999)
Bradley Cooper’s very first acting role was in the second season of “Sex and the City,” where he had a quick-fling with Carrie Bradshaw.

Kevin Hart has conquered the box office with mainstream studio comedies like “Ride Along,” “Get Hard,” and “Night School,” which just topped the box office with $27 million. However, the comedian is shaking things up in 2019 with a detour to indies and more dramatic fare with “The Upside.” The film is the English-language remake of the popular French hit “The Intouchables.”
“The Upside” centers around the growing friendship between a wealthy paraplegic man (Cranston) and the ex-criminal assigned to be his caretaker (Hart). The movie was originally set to be released by The Weinstein Company and premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, but it was sold to Stx Entertainment earlier this year in the midst of TWC filing for bankruptcy.

Apparently not everyone agrees that Bradley Cooper's face was made for the big screen. As one of the most popular A-list actors today, often recognized for his attractive looks, Copoer says he did not have quite the same reputation at the start of his career. He reveals in an interview with W Magazine, "I've always been an underdog. I was always operating under the lens of not really being seen as the 'main guy.'" Cooper's statement is surprisingly contrary from the roles Hollywood has recruited him to play, especially after critically-acclaimed and widely beloved performances in box office hits such as The Hangover, Limitless, and Silver Linings...

As with so many recent revivals and remakes, some things are best left in the past. However, if any show is suited for these times, it’s “Murphy Brown.” It was always an idiosyncratic, politically engaged sitcom and, given the state of current events, it is thus a genuine delight to have Candice Bergen back as the uncompromising yet flawed reporter, angry as hell and ready for a fight.
Creator Diane English brings the show about the making of a television news show into 2018 by having Murphy, accompanied by longtime colleagues Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto) and Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford), anchor a cable news morning show — one that happens to be in direct competition with a show hosted by Murphy’s adult son Avery (Jake McDorman) on the “Wolf” Network.

On CBS’ “Murphy Brown” revival, “Limitless” alum Jake McDorman plays Avery, who is Murphy Brown’s (Candice Bergen) grown-up son. He doesn’t work for “Fyi,” however: Avery is employed by the Wolf Network, which is definitely the sitcom’s take on Fox News Channel.
“He’s also a television journalist, who is working for an opposing network called The Wolf Network — Fox,” Bergen said Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour. Wolf-Fox: Get it?
Avery is the liberal voice there, executive producer Diane English added. So that should lead to some drama on a comedy.

Attention Dexter fans: After five years, Michael C. Hall is returning to the police force. The actor is set to lead In the Shadow of the Moon, an upcoming Netflix sci-fi thriller from director Jim Mickle, Collider reports. Hall will play a detective who is assigned to a murder case. With his partner, played by Boyd Hollbrook, they discover that their suspected killer isn’t who she seems to be, as the broad concept of time travel is thrown into the narrative.
Michael C. Hall’s body of work has been multifarious to say the least. From starring as the titular role in Showtime’s Dexter for eight years, playing President Kennedy in an episode of The Crown, to starring in independent features Christine and Kill Your Darlings, it’s not necessarily easy to predict where Hall might show up next. With that being said, his reconnection with director Jim Mickle both intriguing and exciting.

Relativity Media founder Ryan Kavanaugh sued his former production president Adam Fields for $50 million on Thursday, claiming that Fields illegally leaked documents from a private arbitration that mistakenly paints Kavanaugh as a fraud.
The breach of contract suit says that Fields gave only selective parts of documents to a U.S. bankruptcy court this week in a larger effort to mislead the entertainment industry and public that Kavanaugh forged evidence of sexual harassment against Fields and used it as an excuse to fire him.
“The preparation, selection and attachment of the arbitration-related materials … was done for the improper purposes of distracting and deflecting attention from Fields’ history of improper conduct, especially in light of the #MeToo movement, and harming Kavanaugh,” according to the suit, which was obtained by TheWrap.
Representatives for Fields did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Relativity Media fabricated a memo detailing sexual harassment accusations against its former production president Adam Fields, a Los Angeles arbitration judge declared in late May. The judge’s finding also said studio founder Ryan Kavanaugh “must be” one of the parties who authored the document.
In an interim ruling in April, arbitration judge Terry Friedman awarded Fields almost $8.5 million in damages for breach of contract, and concluded that a memo discussing seven women at the studio who accused him of unwanted advances was fictional.
It’s unclear from the documents, submitted last week as Fields sought to be listed as a creditor following Relativity’s latest bankruptcy filing, whether Relativity signed off on the arbitration judge’s findings and agreed to the proposed settlement.
In a statement issued early Tuesday, a spokesman for Kavanagh and Relativity acknowledged that Fields won “a single count of breach of contract” but disputed that...

Damon Lindelof’s “Watchmen” pilot at HBO has set a number of actors in key roles, Variety has learned.
Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard will all appear in the series, with King in the lead role. CBS has handed a series order to The Code, one of five new dramas the network has picked up for next season, along with F.B.I., Magnum P.I., God Friended Me and The Red Line.
The Code, penned by Limitless creator Craig Sweeny from a story by him and Craig Turk and directed by Marc Webb, will undergo major recasting. Exiting are Dave Annable, who played the male lead in the pilot, and Mira Sorvino, who played a major co-starring role.
Staying on are female lead Anna Wood as well as Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo, Raffi Barsoumian.
In The Code, from CBS TV Studios and Timberman-Beverly, the military’s brightest minds take on our country’s toughest challenges – inside the courtroom and out – where each attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator – and a Marine.
Sweeny serves as executive producer/showrunner. Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman executive produce alongside Webb.

When first-time director Bradley Cooper was shooting his forthcoming remake of “A Star in Born,” his co-star, Lady Gaga (aka Stefani Germanotta), made a deal with him.
“She said right from the beginning that there would be a bargain,” Cooper recalled at a public talk at the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro. He recalled that Gaga told him, “‘I’m gonna rely on you to get a performance that’s honest out of me’ — because she’d never done a film before — ‘and I ‘m gonna make sure that you’re going to turn into a musician. Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro shared a halting but affectionate hour onstage at the Tribeca Film Festival this evening, with director David O. Russell joining them halfway through to keep the dialogue going.
The conversation, which was live-streamed on Facebook, focused mostly on the work the two actors have done together, including films like Limitless, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle. The talk also included a lot of reflection on their experiences as directors. De Niro has directed twice (A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd) and Cooper’s directorial debut, a new version of A Star is Born, is slated for release in October.
“It can only enrich your awareness of what everybody goes through,” De Niro said in response to an audience member’s question about getting behind the camera. Added Cooper, “As a director, there’s so many things you’re thinking about that as an actor,...

After starring opposite one another in four films — “Limitless,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” and “Joy” —Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro reunited for a one-on-one conversation at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. The hourlong discussion found Cooper looking back at his Oscar-nominated career and included David O. Russell being invited onstage to co-moderate. De Niro started the conversation with a revelation: He has already seen Cooper’s “A Star Is Born.”
“A Star Is Born” marks Cooper’s directorial debut and is the third time the property has been remade since the original opened in 1937, starring Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. The remakes have included a 1954 musical, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and a 1976 rock musical, starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
“It’s terrific and Bradley is excellent in it,” De Niro raved. “The movie is wonderful. I hope it gets the attention I feel it should when it opens.
