“It’s f–ing hard to make a good airplane movie,” Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund emphasized multiple times Saturday morning in Cannes as he spoke to international press about his plans for The Entertainment System Is Down, the latest feature he has set to direct starring a buzzy cast led by Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl.
His follow-up to the Palme d’Or-winning satire Triangle of Sadness, The Entertainment System Is Down is another social satire, this time set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment systems fail, and an eclectic group of international passengers are forced to face the horror of being bored.
As we reported earlier this week, Östlund and his producer, Erik Hemmendorff, have purchased a real-life Boeing 747 where he told the press today he will mount the production over 70 days on a studio lot.
“We bought the plane and it was quite early in the process of the film.

However, his comedic chops run the gamut as he has had numerous supporting roles in genres from family to raunchy. Beyond television, he has graced his fair share of movies, and his presence, no matter how brief, always stands out as the scene-stealer that he is.
Having been in the entertainment industry for almost twenty-five years, Key has amassed twenty-three award nominations, including three wins with a Peabody, an American Comedy Award, and an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Bill Skarsgård has slowly but surely established himself as one of the most versatile actors of this generation. With a number of quirky and unconventional roles under his belt, Skarsgård keeps pushing the envelope of his skills with each new character he plays on the screen.
The actor has been a part of several notable franchises in his career. Therefore, it was not surprising when John Wick came calling for him. He is not new to playing antagonists, in fact, he excels at playing morally dubious characters.
He did it again as Marquis Vincent de Gramont in the fourth installment of this Keanu Reeves-led series. It was a knock-out performance, but one aspect of his role faced a lot of flak from the public, so much so that it could have taken attention away from the film itself.

Acclaimed director Jordan Peele has provided an exciting update on his currently untitled next film project. Speaking on a recent podcast visit, Peele suggested the secretive horror outing has the potential to be his new favorite if executed properly, raising anticipation for the Oscar winner’s highly-awaited follow-up to 2022’s Nope.
Jordan Peele via Late Night with Seth Meyers
Initially slated to begin production last year for a late 2024 release, Peele’s fourth directorial effort was delayed by industry strikes. But now, after a year spent fine-tuning the concept, the reenergized filmmaker enthusiastically teased the developing film as a new passion project brimming with possibility.

In July 2022, on the heels of the premiere of his third feature “Nope,” Jordan Peele went viral when he responded to a tweet calling him the greatest horror director of all time. “Sir, please put the phone down I beg you,” the writer/director wrote. “Sorry. I love your enthusiasm, but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!!!”
That’s just one of many examples of Peele professing his love for classic horror cinema. Even before he established himself as one of the industry’s top filmmakers, Peele was always open about his love for the sometimes taboo genre. In recent years, he has used his newfound status as a darling of the horror community to wax poetic about the many scary subgenres he enjoys. From 1980s slashers to meticulously crafted contemporary psychological horror, Peele’s appreciation for the art of the scare only seems to increase as his filmography grows.

Jordan Peele wasn't always one of the greatest horror filmmakers in the world. First he was a prolific comedian, starring in five seasons of the late-night sketch comedy series "Mad TV," impersonating celebrities left and right. Then he created his own show with his fellow "Mad TV" alumni Keegan-Michael Key, appropriately titled "Key & Peele," and that show was a major comedy hit that's still actively memed to this day.
It made sense that, when Jordan Peele moved into the realm of movies, his first project was the phenomenally funny buddy comedy "Keanu." Peele co-wrote the screenplay and starred opposite Key as mild-mannered friends who have to step outside their comfort zone and into the world of violent crime in order to rescue their kidnapped, adorable kitten. Peele may not have directed it, but it's a delight, and established Peele as a force to be reckoned with in motion picture comedies as well as TV.

Tiffany Haddish is still haunted by how she was treated on her first film.
The “Girl’s Trip” breakout star and recent “Haunted Mansion” actress told the Associated Press in the below video that she was never paid for her film debut, despite being told her salary would be $1,200. Haddish was also homeless at the time.
“My very first movie I ever did that I was the star in, I was homeless while I was shooting that movie,” Haddish said. “They were supposed to pay me $1,200 to do the movie. I wasn’t in the union. It was non-union film so there was nothing I could do about it. They never paid me. They never paid me a dime.”
She continued, “The producers gave me 10 DVDs and said, ‘Sell those. Good luck.’ I never saw the movie.”
While Haddish did not name the film, her first credited role was in 2005’s “The Urban Demographic.

Tiffany Haddish revealed in a video interview with the Associated Press that she did not earn a penny from her first movie, even after it started airing on network television and various streaming platforms following the success of “Girls Trip.” The 2017 comedy, co-starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith, served as Haddish’s industry breakout. She earned rave reviews and won the supporting actress prize from the New York Film Critics circle, all of which created heightened interest in the work she shot prior.
Haddish was talking to the AP about Hollywood’s changing financial systems amid the SAG-AFTRA strike. She revealed that before “Girls Trip,” she starred in a non-union film and was promised she’d be paid $1,200 dollars. She never made a cent.

Plot: Set 23 years after the original story which inspired it, The Machine finds Bert Kreischer facing familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives: a murderous mobster hellbent on kidnapping Bert back to the motherland to atone for his crimes. Together, he and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self in the midst of a war between a sociopathic crime family while they attempt to find common ground.
Review: This weekend boasts two theatrical films featuring stand-up comedians with dedicated fanbases in stories about their relationship with their father. Both Sebastian Maniscalco and Bert Kreischer have performed elements of the stories at the core of their big-screen adventures, but the results could not be further apart. While About My Father is a wholesome bromance centered on the culture clash of two families, The Machine is a balls-to-the-wall action...

Deadline has reported that Legendary is developing Animal Friends with an all-star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn.

Exclusive: Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, a rising writer-producer coming to television from the world of theater, has signed with Artists First for management.

The show, which recently screened in part at SXSW, was set to follow a 33-year-old Black man of the same name on a mission of self-discovery amid the burgeoning field of digital psychiatry that might be the key to defining his truest self. It’s been described as a genre-fluid coming-of-age story with a reality-bending premise that explores the gulf between Black male perspectives, while also attempting to answer Demascus’ personal question: “Who am I?...

Over the course of four films, the “John Wick” franchise has established itself as the most gorgeous series in the history of action cinema, with vibrant colors and gliding camera moves that provide a counterpoint to the gritty, handheld camerawork of the “Bourne” movies. Cinematographer Dan Laustsen, who came on board for “John Wick: Chapter Two” and has shot every “Wick” film since, had a clear mandate from director Chad Stahelski upon their first meeting. “He said, ‘I want to shoot “John Wick” like a Bertolucci movie,'” Laustsen told IndieWire. “That was his briefing for me, and I thought, ‘That doesn’t sound bad at all.'”
“John Wick: Chapter Four” represents the peak of Laustsen and Stahelski’s collaboration, with set piece after set piece shot in long takes that showcase the elegant choreography of the action and a color palette that Stahelski acknowledges owes more than a...

When it comes to R-rated comedies, no other film festival can hold a candle to SXSW. The Austin-based film festival is often the jumping-off point for some of the year’s highest-profile comedies; previous premieres have included films like “Knocked Up,” “21 Jump Street,” “Keanu,” and the work-in-progress debut of “Bridesmaids.” This means a stop at SXSW is an absolute no-brainer for any film resulting from the Judd Apatow producing tree.

"Bert - take off that shirt and show those SOBs who you really are!" Sony Pictures has revealed the full red band trailer for the wild and crazy comedy movie The Machine, from comedy filmmaker Peter Atencio, known for directing "Key & Peele" and their film Keanu previously. We featured the teaser last fall, now get ready for the entire story. From Legendary Pictures, this is an adaptation of comedian Bert Kreischer's crazy (true?) story of that time he was an exchange student in Russia. He ended up studying Russian at university and while on a trip there got the nickname "The Machine" because of his mad drinking abilities. Then he unwittingly helped the Russian mafia with a train robbery. Bert's drunken past then catches up with him 20 years down the road when he and his father are kidnapped by those Bert wronged 20 years ago while drunk on a college semester abroad.

Sony has offered up the first wave of marketing for their upcoming George Foreman biopic, namely a trailer, a poster and a release date.
“Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World” will debut theatrically on April 28, 2023, occupying the pre-summer slot that in previous years was home to “He Got Game,” “Obsessed” and “Keanu.” In 2023, that any studio is slotting anything resembling a big movie is a sign of a return to sanity within the theatrical ecosystem.
Directed by George Tillman Jr. and starring Khris Davis as Foreman, “Big George Foreman” stems from a story by Dan Gordon and Frank Baldwin and Goerge Tillman Jr. And a screenplay from Baldwin and Tillman.

In "The Matrix," after having the martial art uploaded directly into his character's brain, Keanu Reeves famously uttered the line, "I know kung fu." As John Wick, Reeves has also shown off his skills in the arena of "gun-fu," which puts Japanese and Brazilian jiu-jitsu into a blender with standing judo and "tactical 3-gun," as director Chad Stahelski has described it. "John Wick: Chapter 2" took things further by having Reeves show off his "car-fu" skills, and it sounds like he'll be back in the driver's seat — literally — for the upcoming "John Wick: Chapter 4."
Car-fu is exactly what it sounds like: the use of a car as a deadly weapon. One of the "John Wick: Chapter 2" Blu-ray special features was a segment called "Car Fu Ride Along," which showed how Reeves got behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang Mach 1 to perfect his driving so that action scenes could be built around it.

When discussing the burgeoning streaming landscape, Sandra Stern, recently promoted to vice chairman of Lionsgate Television Group, observed that popular TV franchises even from long-ago decades can stop the “churn” — that is, subscribers who sign up in order to watch one highly promoted movie or TV series and then drop the subscription after they watch it.
Stern and other top executives at the company joined TheWrap for Tuesday’s virtual Power Women Summit (Pws) panel entitled “The Women of Lionsgate: Brands & Franchises in Today’s Media Landscape,” sponsored by Lionsgate. Stern said the value of producing TV franchises came into sharp focus during the pandemic as stay-at-home viewers entered into the premium subscription service game.
“The big concern for all streamers, for all paid platforms, is churn,” Stern said. “There’s something we must watch [so]we sign up for platform, and once we’ve seen it, we tune it out.

The combined forces of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key have made them one of comedy's greatest duos, with their series "Key and Peele" remaining one of the premier sketch comedy shows in recent memory. The show went off the air in 2015 after five seasons, but managed to snag the Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series on its way out.
The duo have absolutely crushing it ever since on their own individual projects, occasionally reuniting for projects like "Keanu," and "Toy Story 4, not to mention the upcoming "Wendell and Wild." It's a testament to both of their immeasurable talents that they were able to survive and thrive without being in a partnership, forging their own pathways to success. In one of the best collaborations of all time, we’re getting a new film from the director of the incredible stop-motion animated Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas, this time starring Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key as demon brothers in Wendell & Wild.
Peele just dropped a new trailer for the film, which is coming to Netflix.
This classic macabre art style is the signature of the legendary director Henry Selick, who hasn’t released a film since Coraline in 2009. It wasn’t for lack of trying, as Selick recently said he had been working on two films for Disney that were canceled after other stop-motion animations made middling box-office returns.
Selick first pitched this film to Peele while he was establishing his company Monkeypaw productions, and the first meeting even took place before Peele had shot his acclaimed debut, Get Out. They eventually secured support from Netflix which...

Tiffany Haddish is opening up about how her previous money struggles still impact her decisions around her career and finances today. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, the comedian and actor revealed that she used her "Girls Trip" paycheck to finish paying off her house, even when others told her not to.
Haddish explained that a lot of her decisions around money are influenced by her fear of being broke and homeless again. "So immediately when I started making a little bit of money doing things like Tyler Perry's 'If Loving You Is Wrong' and 'The Carmichael Show,' I started trying to figure out how to create generational wealth. The fastest way to do it and the first way you should go about doing it is buy some land," she said. "So before we even got into season 2 of 'The Carmichael Show,' I bought a house.

Editor Nicholas Monsour should teach a class about "Nope." He jokes that he gives long answers, but really, it's more that he gives a tremendous amount of thought to what he's doing. After speaking with the editor for almost an hour about his latest collaboration with filmmaker Jordan Peele, I still had endless questions about the film. Not only in regards to What does it all mean, man?, but also about the nuts and bolts behind it all.

Showbiz careers have no logic because there are too many unpredictable factors: audiences’ fickle tastes, industry perceptions and, of course, luck. But even given the elusive nature of career success, Keanu Reeves is unique.
For one thing, he is stronger than ever after a 35-year career, showing a longevity that might have surprised even his ardent supporters in the 1980s.
Most actors would be thrilled to have one successful film franchise, but Reeves — who celebrates his 57th birthday on Sept. 2 — has three: “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” which in 1989 established him as a comedy actor; plus “The Matrix” (1999) and “John Wick” (2014), both of which put him in the pantheon of action heroes.
Reeves, who is of Hawaiian, Chinese, English, Irish and Portuguese heritage, made his professional debut in 1984, with small roles in various TV series, then made his big-screen bow in “Youngblood” (1986), which tapped into his skill at hockey.

If there’s one thing that all corners of the internet seem to have in common, it’s a unified love of Keanu Reeves. The actor has always had a reputation for being a kind and generous soul, and despite having been in the industry for over 35 years, he’s never been as popular or beloved as he is today.

There’s even science behind the world’s fascination with Reeves, not to mention his enduring legacy as the star of several of the greatest action movies ever made including Point Break, Speed, The Matrix and John Wick.

On the other hand, the goal of a reboot is to simultaneously entice fans who didn’t watch the original as well as honor what came before. How do you bridge the two spectrums with a show so iconic as to be all but crystallized in time?
The first season of the Jordan Peele-produced remake had its bright spots, but it also suffered from coming after “Black Mirror,” which, as a “Twilight Zone” acolyte, had already said so much about relationships and technology. Many of the same problems that plagued Season 1 of “The Twilight Zone” reboot remain in Season 2, despite one episode that blows them all away.

With his status as the internet’s favorite actor firmly secured after a standout 2019 that saw him feature in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Toy Story 4, Between Two Ferns: The Movie and Always Be My Maybe, as well as his continued reputation as one of Hollywood’s all-round good guys, the recent resurgence of Keanu Reeves looks set to continue well into 2020 and beyond.
In fact, May 21st of next year has already been declared by fans as ‘Keanu Reeves Day’, namely due to the fact that both John Wick: Chapter 4 and the long-awaited fourth installment of The Matrix franchise are set to hit theaters on the same day. While we can gather that the next Wick adventure will continue expanding the series’ unique mythology and expertly-choreographed action sequences, The Matrix 4 still remains a complete mystery at this point.

Both are just part of a robust talent lineup driving what CBS All Access hopes to be a better, buzzier sophomore session.
Julie McNamara, CBS All Access Evp of Original Content, made the announcement during the streaming platform’s TCA session Sunday afternoon in Pasadena, CA. The featured stars include Morena Baccarin, Colman Domingo, Ethan Embry, Jenna Elfman, Tavi Gevinson, Tony Hale, Abbie Hern, Gillian Jacobs, Sophia Macy, Joel McHale, Chris Meloni, Billy Porter, Jimmi Simpson, and Daniel Sunjata.

If you’re a fan of Keanu Reeves – and really, who isn’t at this point? – then mark May 21st, 2021 in your calendars, as both The Matrix 4 (working title) and John Wick: Chapter 4 are releasing on that same day.
Yesterday, Lionsgate sent out a text to fans stating that the next chapter in the John Wick series will hit theaters in late May of 2021. The text simply read: “You have served. You will be of service. John Wick: Chapter 4 is coming – May 21st, 2021.” Clever marketing, right?
Not long after that, Warner Bros. announced that the fourth Matrix film is also coming that day. Coincidence? Maybe, but whether it is or not, fans couldn’t be more excited at the possibility and Twitter has been ablaze with folks freaking out over it.
Ahhhh matrix 4 and john wick 4 will be released on the same day!!!
