Robert Smigel’s Triumph the Insult Comic Dog returned Thursday in a video that recalled his heyday at Late Night With Conan O’Brien.
Former President Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial—the one in which he’s charged with 34 felony counts surrounding an alleged hush money payment to Stormy Daniels—kicked off in Lower Manhattan with jury selection this week, and Smigel wasted no time getting the cigar-chomping puppet down on the scene.
The video finds Triumph interacting with the crowd of Trump supporters outside the courthouse — or as he puts it, “a real who’s who of who’s off their meds.”
At times, the jokes get lost among the clash of arguing bystanders, but the ten-minute video is full of Triumph’s typically cutting quips: “I think Trump’s kind of losing it. He’s even starting to slur his slurs,” he tells two Trump supporters at one point.

Debuting in 1993, Late Night with Conan O’Brien witnessed many iconic bits and gas, but arguably the best creation to emerge from the show was Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Puppeteered by Robert Smigel, which made its first appearance in 1997, the cigar-chomping dog is rude and crude to everyone and everything, but most importantly, he’s devastatingly funny.
From attacking Star Wars fans to Bon Jovi, it doesn’t matter who you are, Triumph roasts everyone equally, and unluckily, even the Late Night Host wasn’t immune from his insults.

Marty Friedman has announced a new solo album, Drama, arriving May 17th. The former Megadeth guitarist has also offered up the lead single and album opener “Illumination.”
The six-and-a-half minute instrumental showcases Friedman’s many six-string talents, from jazz runs to neo-classical flourishes. A mellow, extended intro leads up to the track’s climatic guitar fireworks, with Friedman’s elegant solos backed by an ensemble that includes typical rock instrumentation, as well as cello and violin.
Friedman self-produced Drama, which was partially recorded at Newsin Audio Design in Italy, where Friedman had access to a plethora of vintage guitars and tones. Recording engineers include Luigi Stefanini, Frank Rosato, Takao Nakazato, Atsuo Akabae, and Kenjiro Naka. Alexander Backlund and Jay Ruston mixed the tracks, while Koji Tanaka handled the mastering at Victor Creative Media in Tokyo.

You wouldn’t expect an animated film about a talking iguana to draw equal inspiration from Andy Kaufman and “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but that just might help explain the wide appeal of Netflix’s smash hit “Leo.” It also makes perfect sense when you consider the creative minds behind Adam Sandler-led project, which includes his longtime collaborator and comedy’s not-so-secret weapon, Robert Smigel.
Though perhaps best known to audiences for his work as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, the foul-mouthed canine puppet who began life on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” where Smigel was the first head writer. Ranveer Singh’s Day 1 At The Box Office With Band Baaja Baaraat Was Terrible!
It has been 13 years since Bollywood witnessed a boy who was unbelievably convincing and impressively natural on the big screen. He was what he was. One could not love him, but one could not even ignore him. He was the most ordinary-looking boy, who was just one Bhansali away from becoming a superstar! Ranveer Singh.
The Mumbai boy made his debut 13 years ago on December 10, 2010, with Yash Raj Films’ Band Baaja Baaraat opposite Anushka Sharma. Helmed by Maneesh Sharma, this film earned its success rightfully and well-deservingly.
On the first day, the film could not manage to cross even 1 crore as the opening! Yes, you read that right. Ranveer Singh’s opening day of his career at the Box Office was disastrous. Band Baaja Baaraat collected 0.95 crore on day 1, and no one hoped for a miracle...

SAG-AFTRA members have voted to ratify their contract, officially ending the longest labor battle in Hollywood history.
The contract was approved with 78% voting in favor. Turnout was 38%.
“This contract is an enormous victory for working performers, and it marks the dawning of a new era for the industry,” Fran Drescher, the union’s president, said in a message to the membership.
SAG-AFTRA suspended its 118-day strike against the major studios on Nov. 8, after reaching a tentative agreement. The agreement still had to be ratified to formally end the walkout. Had the membership voted it down, the strike likely would have resumed.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the studios in bargaining, issued a statement applauding the vote.
“The AMPTP member companies congratulate SAG-AFTRA on the ratification of its new contract, which represents historic gains and protections for performers,” an AMPTP spokesperson said. “With this vote, the...

Here they come again, those holiday perennials. Movies, both good and bad, that year after year find their way back into theaters, onto small screens and deep into stockings that still get stuffed with digital discs.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A Christmas Story. Love Actually. It’s a Wonderful Life, of course. A Christmas Carol, ad infinitum. Nutcracker after Nutcracker after Nutcracker.
My personal favorite, released 19 years ago, on Nov. 10, 2004, by Warner Bros., is The Polar Express from the technophile director Robert Zemeckis.
This isn’t a sentimental choice, at least not in the conventional sense. It’s just that every time the picture pops up—and its seasonal DVDs are strung merrily across the Internet, from Amazon to Target—it reminds me of an important life lesson. That is: It’s much easier not to be an editor, especially at The New York Times.

Leave your preconceived notions about wrestling at the door. That’s what the cast of A24’s latest drama The Iron Claw emphasized today during the film’s post-premiere press conference in Dallas, TX.
“It’s like dance, gymnastics, combat sports… so many different things,” Jeremy Allen White, one of the film’s ensemble stars said to a packed ballroom of journalists at the glitzy Ritz Carlton Hotel downtown this morning.
The film centers on the famed (and ultimately tragic) story of the Von Erich brothers, who took their unique talents from their hometown of Denton, to the world wrestling stage, in time creating the notorious The Iron Claw move that wowed the sport in the ‘80s.
On why he felt it was the right story to bring to the big screen, writer/director/producer Sean Durkin said, “I’ve been a fan of [wrestling] since I was a kid, and...

Kevin Morby hasn’t completely closed the door on This is a Photograph, the introspective seventh studio album he released last year. On it, he walked a thin line between autobiographical and fictional storytelling while exploring the way childhood memories change with age. But even those 12 songs weren’t enough for him to feel at peace with it all, so he’s going back for more on More Photographs (A Continuum), set for release on May 26.

Prolific documentarian Alex Gibney hates liars. He hates when companies lie (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room); he hates when religions lie (Going Clear, Mea Maxima Culpa); he hates when authority figures lie (The Inventor, Client 9).
The Rosetta Stone for Gibney’s dogmatic resistance to mendacity is The Armstrong Lie. Gibney’s irritation arises not just from the general lies that Lance Armstrong told the world, but from the lies that Lance Armstrong told him during the making of the movie, yielding a documentary about the nature of deception and self-deception.
Gibney’s new two-part Apple TV+ docuseries Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker is a complementary text to The Armstrong Lie. It’s about a revered sports icon whose falsehoods eventually led to personal disgrace. It’s structured around two extensive interviews conducted at different points in the subject’s prevarication — once in delusion and once when facing a reckoning.

Megyn Kelly’s time on Fox News and NBC came to an end some time ago, but she continues to find ways to stay in the game.
The former TV anchor, best known for her tenure on the Fox News Channel primetime schedule and a chaotic period at NBC News, will launch a new weekday talk program on satellite-radio broadcaster SiriusXM, starting Sept. 7. “The Megyn Kelly Show” will air weekdays between noon and 2 p.m. eastern on the outlet’s “Triumph” channel, which is devoted to programming that offers advice and inspiration. Other Triumph hosts include Nancy Grace, Dave Ramsey, Dr. Laura Schlessinger and Glenn Beck.
Kelly has since September of last year focused on a podcast, produced by Red Seat Ventures, a company led by Christopher Balfe — former CEO of TheBlaze and president of Glenn Beck’s production company Mercury Radio Arts and Kevin Balfe, a former senior vice president at Mercury Radio Arts.

This story about the 2021 Cannes film festival first appeared in TheWrap’s special digital Cannes magazine.

Based on the screenwriter’s own youth, this underdog disability story wins points for authenticity, but sports movie cliches blunt the impact
With actors with disabilities often confined to supporting roles, Triumph could have been a breath of fresh air. Centring on the rarely seen athletic journey of a character with a motor disorder, this underdog, coming-of-age sports movie has a big heart but lacks the competency to execute its aspirational premise.
Mike (Rj Mitte) is a handsome high school freshman with a particularly disarming smile. He dreams of joining the wrestling team; however, because he has cerebral palsy, the obstacles are numerous. Not only does Mike endure jeers and bullying from other students, his caring but overly protective father also attempts to dissuade him from participating in organised sports. In the face of such hurdles, Mike fortunately has the unwavering support of the tough-but-fair Coach Cutting (Terrence Howard) and...

Due to the postponement of the 2022 Summer Olympics, World Taekwondo was not able to showcase in Tokyo as planned and so they tried out for “America’s Got Talent” instead. Hailing from South Korea and the United States, the large group of athletes specializes in the demonstration of the Korean martial art. Though they didn’t get to perform on the world’s biggest sports stage, World Taekwondo was able to earn themselves their own gold medal in the form of a Golden Buzzer given to them by Terry Crews who had “never, ever seen anything like this in [his] life.”
In their powerful audition on June 15, the group divided and conquered by showing a number of different “fight” sequences using the punching and kicking techniques of the martial art. In the beginning one member fought off a gang of other members by fighting his way through the wooden boards in their hands.

WarnerMedia announced on Tuesday that Conan O’Brien’s long-running TBS talk show, Conan, would be coming to an end next summer. Thankfully, however, the late night pioneer isn’t leaving television altogether – just trading the network world for the streaming one. In addition to his Conan Without Borders travel series already airing on TBS, O’Brien will produce a new weekly variety show for WarnerMedia’s streaming platform, HBO Max, to premiere at a yet-to-be announced date.
“In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform,’” O’Brien said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription.”
At first glance, this appears to be bittersweet news. O’Brien has been a late night talk show staple for decades.

Robert Smigel has figured out what disgraced morning anchors Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer are up to: They’re co-hosting a midday talk show in Sarasota, Fla., and making their guests very uncomfortable.
That was one of the many gags on Smigel’s half-hour Fox special “Let’s Be Real,” which featured puppets parodying Rose and Lauer, as well as Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Mike Pence, Rudy Giuliani, Kanye West and Nancy Pelosi. Frightening, faceless mannequins were used to play Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Puppets were seen interacting with real-life guests including Larry King, Stormy Daniels, Jimmy Kimmel and more. (Scroll down to watch the sketches.)
The special opened with puppet Trump conversing with a real-life King — and it quickly became clear that the special was shot so recently that the duo discussed Trump’s performance on Tuesday at the presidential debate. King asked “Trump” about his command to...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”)
Welp, all of you “Masked Singer” fans who guessed that Ladybug was Kelly Osbourne can go around bragging to your friends tomorrow, because, yes, she was in fact Kelly Osbourne. The big reveal came during Wednesday’s episode of the Fox singing competition and not a minute before, something the TV personality is very grateful for, due to how “terrified” she was of that iron-clad Nda.
“You sign the scariest f–king Nda of your life,” Osbourne told TheWrap. “I’ve never signed anything like that before, like, what will happen to you if you tell or you speak. If anyone brings up ‘The Masked Singer,’ I’m like, ‘What’s that?’ I don’t wanna know about it, I don’t want to talk about it, because I’m terrified of saying the wrong thing. And...

Critics compare this sophisticated spy thriller to Carol Reed’s earlier Triumph set in Vienna with Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles — but it’s a different story altogether, not about black-market evil but the perils of moral compromise in a divided Berlin. James Mason and Claire Bloom are stunningly good together, in a moody suspense that’s completely serious — no comic relief or ‘fun’ jeopardy to distract from the fascinating, you-are-there setting, a Berlin trying to rebuild itself. With Hildegard Knef, and an extended, beautifully filmed nighttime chase that seals an unlikely romance.

Rome’s Mia market for TV series, feature films and documentaries wrapped positively Sunday with organizers boasting a bump in attendance just as some 2,500 executives departed in an upbeat mood after four days of dealmaking and presentations of mostly European fresh product, which elevated Italy’s global standing in the industry, especially within the TV sector.

Having breakfast in the special El Gouna Film Festival atmosphere of friendliness and open discussions with new acquaintances, I began an interesting conversation with the Bulgarian actor Ivan Barnev the costar (with Ivan Savov) of ‘The Father’.
I had seen his film The Father already and though actors are far from my area of expertise as my experience stems from the business of films and not from production, we discussed acting and his part in The Father, the winner of the Grand Prix Crystal Globe Prize of Us$ 25,000 at Karlovy Vary, the top Eastern European Film Festival, which was for many years my favorite film festival.
The Father is an intimate family comedy about the difficulties of connecting with those close to us. Told with an “Eastern European” accent and in the particularly droll style of the Bulgarian filmmaking duo Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, the story opens at a funeral.

Just minutes before premiering “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men” at New York’s Beacon Theatre Thursday night during the Tribeca Film Festival, director Sacha Jenkins stepped up to the podium and gave a “freestyle” for his speech, emphasizing that the Wu-Tang Clan story is an American success story.

Tom Cruise is back as the super-spy Ethan Hunt for the sixth time in the most thrilling and action packed Mission: Impossible film yet.
In a direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), Ethan Hunt and his all-star team of Imf operatives are once again trying to save the world from nuclear armageddon in returning writer-director Christopher McQuarrie’s action opus of paranoid intelligence agencies, high-wire stunts and of course rubber masks. At this morning’s Emmy nominations perhaps the most momentous news was the fact that supreme streamer Netflix finally achieved its goal of becoming King of the Emmys, at least in terms of nominations where it received 112 overtaking leader for the past 17 years, HBO which had 108.
The Netflix achievement most likely is due to the sheer range of programming available on the service, in addition to an aggressive and expensive campaign on the part of the deep-pocketed company. Congratulations are in order since it has been a steady rise to the top.
But the story likely will be different on Emmy night(s) since it is widely believed that rival streamers Hulu, with The Handmaid’s Tale, and Amazon Prime, with newcomer The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, are more likely to prevail in the marquee Drama and Comedy series categories over Netflix’s entries. Can there be such a thing as a successful failure? In the case of The Dana Carvey Show, the answer might be yes.
The sketch comedy show only ran for seven episodes on ABC in 1996 — an eighth episode was uncharitably yanked in favor of a Coach rerun. The program’s brief rise and rapid flame-out is told in the Hulu documentary Too Funny to Fail, now in contention for Emmy nominations.
Director Josh Greenbaum was in high school when The Dana Carvey Show premiered.
“I vividly remember sitting down to watch the first episode with great anticipation,” he recalls. “I was a huge fan of Dana Carvey and here he was with his own show on the No. 1 network in the primetime slot with the No. 1 lead-in. So it seemed like the perfect formula.”

Sneak Peek new images of "Lord of the Rings" actress Liv Tyler as 'the face' (and body) of a new campaign supporting the 'Essence' brand from "Triumph Lingerie:
In 1886, Johann Gottfried Spiesshofer and Michael Braun founded a factory for the production of corsets in Heubach. They first employed six people on the same number of sewing machines. That number rose to 150 people in 1890, and in 1894 their first exports were sent to England.
It was only in 1902 that Spieshofer and Braun registered the Triumph brand, inspired by the Parisian 'Arc de Triomphe'.
In addition to 'Triumph', the company also produces and distributes the 'sloggi' and 'BeeDees' brands.
In 2010, Triumph International acquired 'Beldona', the leading Swiss distributor of lingerie and later purchased other distributors in Mexico and the Us. Triumph International also acquired the majority stake in luxury dealer 'Journelle' .
Triumph is now wholly owned by the Braun and Spiesshofer families.
