- The team takes desperate action in its race to prevent Samaritan from coming online and making them its first targets. Meanwhile, the months-long battle with the anti-surveillance terrorist group Vigilance comes to a shocking conclusion.
- Having taken over the power system causing a blackout, Collier and Vigilance have managed to capture all the people they feel need to be brought to justice for creating and/or operating the ever knowing surveillance system, the only one of which he knows by name being the government's Northern Lights project. Among those they have captured and have placed on trial, with a live video feed going out to the entire world, are Finch, Control, Senator Garrison and Greer. Those on trial seem to be standing in solidarity against Collier's judgment even before the facts come to light. However, that solidarity may break down based on insider information one of the accused has. Meanwhile, Reese has an unlikely ally in the form of Hersh, both of who are looking for the secret location of the trial to free their respective bosses. And Shaw is assisting Root in trying to locate and shut down Samaritan, needing to pose as Decima to do so. But Shaw only has a small part of the picture as Root does not divulge the full nature of what she is trying to accomplish on the Machine's behalf.—Huggo
- As Root gets closer to delivering her modified servers to the Samaritan datacenter, Vigilance hold a trial of 4 individuals they believe responsible for Northern Lights (The Machine). Harold gives away the intent and cause of the machine from the start before DECIMA advance their plans of bringing Samaritan closer to activation. The team must part ways to avoid detection from the new system and lead climatically to the next season.—Jordan Bell
- Collier decides to judge the government of the United States and he brings Control, Greer, Finch, Manuel Rivera and General Holcomb to an improvised court. The jury is composed by members of the press and the trial is broadcast live. Meanwhile, the Vigilance cause a blackout in New York to bring chaos to the city. Reese and Shaw are forced to team-up with Hersh to look for Finch and Control. Shaw goes to meet Root at New Jersey since she wants to sabotage the Samaritan including her servers. There is a showdown of Decima and Vigilance and Collier learns how Machiavellian Greer is.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- The story opens at Vigilance's trial. Collier brought in hostages to serve as counsel, jury and media. The whole process is being streamed live and Collier is informed that there are12 million viewers. Rivera is first to be called to the stand
Reese, Shaw and Hersh try to find the courthouse. Root calls Shaw and gives her an address while informing Shaw that she has found Samaritan. Shaw rides a bike to go help Root while he and Hersh proceed to the address given by Root.
Collier asks Rivera about Northern Lights. Rivera stands and screams at Collier that he has no power or right. Collier promptly shoots him in the chest with a shotgun.
Flashback to the 2010 text message Collier got about his brother's death. He's grabbed, thrown into a van, taken to a room with a computer screen communicating with him. Vigilance says it's looking for a leader. In the drawer are a gun, mask and some cash. "If you choose to join us, your name is now Peter Collier." He accepts.
Collier tells the other defendants he's looking for who is most responsible for Northern Lights. He brings Senator Garrison to the stand.
At Root's address Reese and Hersh are reunited with Fusco.
Root cons her way past the guards at the Samaritan facility with the stolen servers. Shaw arrives just in time to save Root when a challenging guard arrives.
Collier plays audio proving Garrison's involvement. While he talks Control tells Finch she wants to keep him alive to help her. Garrison tells Collier all he did was clean up the mess. When he won't point the finger at anyone Collier brings up Control.
Flash back to 2012. Collier gets a text that Vigilance needs to be doing "more." He turns to his team and says they need to change their strategy and go after the higher-ups.
Collier presents Control with evidence of Northern Lights' "research," which spied on thousands of people illegally. She says she can't comment, based on being an officer of the government.
Reese and Hersh trick a Vigilance member into revealing the courthouse location.
The jury votes Control guilty. She defended the country by tapping phones and reading emails. She accuses Collier of breaking laws as well. Collier asks her who built the machine and wants to know where it's located. She says, honestly, I don't know. Just before Control is killed Finch stands up saying he knows the answers, "because I built it."
Flash to 2013. Collier tells his team that protocol has been changed. One wants to make a statement by blowing something up, but Collier responds that they aren't terrorists. He is exposed as undercover FBI, and is immediately killed by Collier.
Present day Collier is surprised that one person could be responsible for the machine. Finch agrees to talk only if everybody else in the courtroom is spared. Finch starts to tell the machine's story.
Root shows Shaw that Samaritan needs government surveillance feeds to be fully online.
Finch explains his machine to Collier and they debate the ethics of the undertaking. Collier is convinced of Finchs guilt, but Decima operatives force a change of venue.
Reese and Hersh arrive at the courthouse, but Greer's team shows up to take out Vigilance. Greer quotes Franklin saying that 3 can keep a secret if 2 are dead. Finch pleads for Colliers life.
Hersh finds a fertilizer bomb ready to detonate when the power comes back on.
Greer tells Collier and Finch that he was behind Vigilance. He also tells Collier that his broadcast wasn't really broadcast around the world. Greer thought The Machine worked too well and needed a way to remind people what could happen. He needed an atrocity, which is the reason for the explosives.
Hersh is shot trying to disarm the bomb and struggles with Decima operatives before time runs out on his valiant attempt.
Greer's plan is for the bomb to take out dozens of police officers, with the blame laid on Vigilance and Collier, helping him to get Samaritan up and running.
The bomb detonates and one of Greer's men kills Collier. Just before Finch is taken out Reese arrives to save him, though Finch is hit in the arm. Garrison calls Greer to say he'll be able to get Samaritan up and running within the hour.
Root tells Shaw they weren't there to shut down the server farm given there are 100s of buildings like it around the world.
Greer activates Samaritan.
Root calls Finch to tell him his library is no longer safe. She has placed new identities for both. Without killing Garrison there was no way of stopping Samaritan.
Greer orders the assassination of all associated with The Machine.
Root and Shaw at the Samaritan servers gave it a strategic blind spot. The new servers are hardwired unable to recognize their new identities. They need to become new people in order to survive. Pandoras Box narrative, by Root saying all that is left is Hope.
Greer sanctimoniously asks Samaritan: What are your commands for us?
