In a not-so-distant future where AI’s omnipresence rivals the air we breathe, director Sophie Barthes paints a thought-provoking canvas in The Pod Generation. Set in a world where technology has woven itself intricately into the fabric of life, the film spirals through the lives of Rachel (Emilia Clarke) and Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a couple torn between the allure of technology and the grip of tradition. This sci-fi flick promises a mind-bending ride but ends up feeling like a futuristic roller coaster that forgot to pick up enough speed.
The Pod Generation offers a cinematic glimpse into a world overshadowed by technological advancement. With a backdrop reminiscent of Black Mirror and the theme of pregnancy and motherhood in The Handmaid’s Tale, the movie sets the stage for a dystopian drama that sends shivers down your spine while whispering eerie truths about our society’s trajectory. AI is boss, making our...

Media research firm Coleman Insights announces the debut of Pod Predictor, a new service for podcasters to test concepts pre-launch.
Pod Predictor surveys 1,000 18- to 64-year-old podcast listeners in the United States and Canada to determine how appealing a podcast concept is. Podcasters test a show title along with a one or two sentence elevator pitch, which respondents rate on a 1 to 5 scale. Additionally, they will indicate their interest in downloading the content based on the title and description.
According to Coleman Insights Vice President/Consultant Jay Nachlis, Pod Predictor is a game changer. “So much money and time is invested in the launch of new podcasts without any intel as to how that content will be received. Now, with Pod Predictor, podcasters can determine how appealing their concept is at an affordable price point, allowing them to refine their marketing message before launching it to the public.”

Drama seems to surround The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice. In addition to her longtime feud with sister-in-law Melissa Gorga (and her brother), she’s had quite a bit of drama with Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge, two former housewives who now have the podcast Two T’s in a Pod. Unfortunately, it seems like Giudice is upset with Judge and Mellencamp once again.
Teresa Giudice’s past beef with Tamra Judge
It all started when Judge commented that Giudice’s husband reminded her of Vicki Gunvalson’s ex, Brooks Ayers. Giudice took offense to that. But later, when Judge explained she hadn’t meant the comment to be a dig at Luis Ruelas, the two patched things up.

Offseason, the new film from writer/director Mickey Keating opens with Ava Aldrich addressing the viewer in a scene that recalls Marianna Hill’s warning at the start of Messiah of Evil.
That film involved a woman’s trip to a touristy coastal town in search of her missing and presumed dead father, Offseason opens with Marie Aldrich heading to the touristy island where Ava is buried. It seems her grave was desecrated and her presence is required to remedy it.
As she and George arrive their trip is almost derailed. It seems the drawbridge to the island is raised during the offseason and the Bridge Man only relents and lowers it after finding out why she’s there. He also warns them that after tomorrow it’ll be locked until spring.

Screen Canberra has opened applications for its annual Screen Pod program, a five-month market-centred initiative with aims to assist writers of diverse backgrounds in generating, developing, and pitching a screen project.
Participants receive story and market feedback via a workshop environment, as well as mentoring and coaching to improve the marketability of their project and skills as a practitioner.
While previously alternating annually between film and TV, this year’s Screen Pod will be platform-agnostic, broken up into three streams.
The first, Process, sees a combination of lecture-based training modules and practical exercises in group workshops.
The second stage, Project, sees writers develop specific projects with the market in mind, assisted by fellow writers and developers.
The final stage is Pitch, with participants to hone their pitching skills and build confidence, in group simulations as well as real-life pitching opportunities.
This builds to a pitching finale, where participants conduct one-on-one presentations to market representatives.

On the Saturday Night Live before Super Bowl Sunday, the show began with a cold open sketch that parodied pregame shows, brands’ politically charged Super Bowl ads and the head coaches hoping to lead the Kansas City Chiefs/Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory.
The sketch, which also mocked studios overstuffed with football commentators and analysts, noted that the Super Bowl would be simulcast on Nickelodeon (which is true) as well as Bravo, where the matchup between quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes is being advertised as “Old Hag Vs. Young Slut.

We all know the CIA runs the music industry. Didn’t The Simpsons leak that years ago? If not a new podcast series will follow the idea to its logical conclusion. If CIA hitman and Gong Show host Chuck Barris could write “Palisade Park,” why couldn’t other agents come up with a catchy tune. Spotify’s latest original podcast documentary series Wind of Change will explore whether the Scorpions’ 1990 song was Cold War propaganda, according to Deadline.
The no longer secret project will be produced by Spotify, along with New Yorker investigative journalist Patrick Radden Keefe, “Pod Save America” producer Crooked Media, and Pineapple Street Studios, which produced Missing Richard Simmons.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who’s been delivering the world up-to-date coronavirus information around the clock, finally got his wish this weekend in the latest remotely produced episode of “Saturday Night Live.” That wish was to be played on “SNL” by Brad Pitt, which is exactly what happened in Saturday’s cold open. Watch the clip below.
The show kicked off last week with Covid-19 survivor Tom Hanks delivering the opening monologue, so the folks at Studio 8H had big shoes to fill this week, which were their own.

One of horror’s most talked about directors these days is Mickey Keating, the man behind films such as Pod, Darling, and Psychopaths. Today, Keating has joined the family of The Strangers by directing a newly-released video for “I Think We’re Alone Now” for the upcoming home invasion thriller The Strangers: Prey At Night! At the age of just 26 or 27, writer/director Mickey Keating already has five feature films under his belt. These aren’t just homemade backyard projects shot with his buddies for $200, either; these are movies with major stars of the indie horror scene (Graham Skipper, Lauren Ashley Carter, Pat Healy, Larry Fu**ing Fessenden) and getting actual distribution through companies like Glass Eye Pix and IFC Midnight. While his previous films have shown major chops behind the camera, they’ve also all had an air of familiarity about them; Keating is a director who wears his influences proudly, and some of his past work has played more like him riffing on an existing piece than like something borne of his own interests and obsessions.
With his fifth feature, Psychopaths, Keating has really come into his own as a director. It is his most original, most ambitious, most audacious work to date...

"You look like a friendly crowd!" Samuel Goldywn Films recently debuted this official trailer for the new horror thriller titled Psychopaths, which first played at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. This is also the latest film from Mickey Keating, director of the films Ritual, Pod, Darling, and Carnage Park, which was also released this year. Psychopaths is about seven different serial killers whose paths cross over one single, blood soaked night. This looks flashy and stylish, though it's hard to tell what exactly is going on in this trailer. The ensemble cast includes Ashley Bell, Angela Trimbur, James Landry Hebert, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Jeremy Gardner, Ivana Shein, and Larry Fessenden. If you're into indie horror, and masks, and serial killer films, then this is for you. But if you're not into that, well, maybe not. Have fun. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Mickey Keating's Psychopaths, direct...

To mark the occasion, Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Kermani about collaborating with Imitation Girl star Lauren Ashley Carter (Darling, The Mind’s Eye, Pod), using genre elements to explore the themes of identity and humanity, and creating a film with grandeur while working within the constraints of a tight budget.
Great job on the film, Natasha. Because I saw that Lauren was starring in this, I had a feeling that I was going to enjoy it. And I was so glad that it lived up to that expectation for me, because I just fell in love with the story. And Lauren’s great, too, so congratulations again.

"They seem naive on the outside, waif-like" - Lauren Ashley Carter
Lauren Ashley Carter is an actress who has exhibited a nuanced onscreen presence, from the submissive housewife in Lucky McKee’s The Woman to the self-described “toxic, bitchy asshole” Lyla in Mickey Keating’s Pod. Now she is collaborating with Keating for a second time on Darling, the story of a woman who takes over caretaking duties of a large New York house. After an encounter with a friendly stranger (Brian Morvant), she spirals into madness, experiencing unsettling and nightmarish flashbacks that set the stage for this deceptively vulnerable woman to reveal a more sinister and violent nature.
Reflecting on her career thus far, Carter explained: “With the performances I have been very fortunate to pick things and to find scripts that I really love. I always try to do something that I haven't done before. It is not really a business strategy,...

On Tuesday, November 1st, Scream Factory will take horror fans into the deadly depths of Carnage Park with their Blu-ray and DVD release of the Mickey Keating film. To give you an idea of what to expect, we have three high-def clips and a trailer from the Blu-ray release.
Carnage Park Blu-ray: ""A brutal masterpiece of tension and terror" (Heather Wixson, Daily Dead), this pure-pulp thrill ride jumps between past and present as it pieces together the puzzle of a shocking crime.
It's 1978 and a bank robbery gone wrong forces two criminals to take a hostage – the young-but-resilient Vivian (The Last Exorcism's Ashley Bell) – as they go on the run. But things go from bad to off-the-rails berserk when Vivian and her captors wind up in the crosshairs of a deranged ex-military sniper (Pat Healy, Cheap Thrills, Starry Eyes), who ensnares them in his deadly game of cat and mouse.

Located in the dusty stretch of hell that lies between homage and pastiche, Mickey Keating’s “Carnage Park” is a lean, mean, motherfucker of a movie that confirms the young director’s outsized potential but fails to follow through on his most explicit promise. A twisted “true crime” story that’s heavily indebted to Quentin Tarantino and boasts all the historical validity of “Inglourious Basterds,” this gnarly gore-fest opens with the kind of reckless, apocryphal declaration that’s only made by geniuses or kids too young to know any better: “The film you are about to see is perhaps the most bizarre episode in the annals of American crime.” That’s a mighty big gauntlet to drop at the feet of an unsuspecting audience, but “Carnage Park” nearly lives up to its own hype — at least for a little while, anyway.
