“I must be some great feeler,” Katie Gavin sings with a wink on Muna’s latest record. “I must be really deep.” On Saves the World, Muna’s second effort, the L.A. trio builds upon the thoughtful electro-pop-rock they began sculpting on their 2017 debut, navigating weighty topics like addiction, alienation and romantic abjection with spry sing-alongs and crisp choruses that can mask the heaviness of the material at hand.

Lady Gaga is now a licensed driver. After "years of driving with a learner's permit" and "an adult present," the 30-year-old singer and actress passed her road test in California, she shared on Friday. "Thelma and Puhleaaaze," Gaga captioned an Instagram shot of her and her friend, explaining her new license. "I'm Free. Rollin' with the homies," she added. On Saturday, Gaga took to Instagram to show some of the fun behind her new authorization. And she just might be the only person to look thrilled to be inside the Dmv. "Me at the Dmv," Gaga wrote in one pic,...

When you first came here, I only loved the writer part of Paul Sheldon…now I know I love the rest of him too." It was 25 years today that the Rob Reiner-directed adaptation of Stephen King's novel Misery was released — but its chilling, claustrophobic story about consumer/celebrity dynamics gives it a relevance that helps it run (or rather, hobble) laps around almost every stalker movie made before or after. Because as much as it's a parable about horrific obsession, it's also a story about how fans relate...

Chicago – The 5th annual Chicago French Film Festival is six days of beret-wearing cinema, taking place July 31st-August 5th, 2015, at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago. The opening night film at 7pm is “Le Affaire SK1.”
“SK1” is French police jargon for “Serial Killer 1,” the codename given in the 1990s to a rapist and murderer who preyed on young women in eastern Paris. The culprit was not the country’s first serial killer, but he was the first to be caught via DNA analysis — even if cops had to overcome years of bureaucratic bungling and bad luck to finally get to him. The debonair Raphael Personnaz stars as an obsessive detective who finds his personal and professional lives upended by the case. “Le Affaire SK1” will be followed by “The King and the Mockingbird” at 9pm.

Elle L'Adore is a curious first feature from former actress Jeanne Henry. It wastes no time getting into the grisly proceedings of an accidental homicide, but after the groundwork is laid out, the film practically crawls to a halt.Muriel (Sandrine Kiberlain) is a compulsive liar and an obsessed super fan of aging pop star Vincent Lacroix (Laurent Lafitte). She has been following his career and loyally attending gigs and television appearances for years, and he has some knowledge of her presence there. Without warning, the impetuous Vincent is involved in a fatal accident involving his crazed girlfriend. Instead of doing what nobody in film does, he concocts an almost ingenious plan to get rid of her body and avoid all suspicion. Unfortunately Vincent partners with Muriel...
