The director Trevor Murphy used to be a Catholic altar boy growing up in a small Irish village, witnessing Irish customs and shenanigans. Now, as an ageing man, fearing the inevitable, Trevor wanted to showcase his unique perspective of death and farewells with this film, through a darkly comic lens.
The director hails from a small village in County Wexford, Ireland. To capture authenticity of the Irish wake portrayed in the film, majority of its actors are of Irish descent, with foley and voiceover elements recorded in various locations within County Wexford.
The film contains some phrases in Irish Gaelic.
