Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, Imtiaz Ali ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Rockstar, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is cited as one of his best Hindi movies. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film also stars Kumud Mishra, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Nargis Fakhri. Released in 2011, it is immensely loved for its performances, story, music (composed by Ar Rahman), and Ali’s director.
It’s a tragic romantic story of a rockstar named Jordan who loses everything as he excels in his career. The song ‘Nadaan Parindey’ brings such an impactful conclusion to the story, leaving us wondering what might be happening with Ranbir Kapoor’s Jordan now. For many, it’s a satisfactory ending, while some believe it leaves a door open to take the story ahead. Now, Imtiaz Ali has addressed the topic of Rockstar 2.
The Rockstar gang—Imtiaz Ali, Ar Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Mohit Chauhan—reunited this year for Amar Singh Chamkila.

The slow-speed car chase never really ended.
It began on June 17, 1994, and it happened, appropriately, in prime time for many viewers. A warrant was out for O.J. Mumbai, April 2 (Ians) Auteur Imtiaz Ali is one of the rare filmmakers who strikes a perfect balance between philosophy and entertainment in his stories.
While his earlier works like ‘Socha Na Tha’ and ‘Jab We Met’ were more on the entertaining side, films like ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’ have aged like a fine wine and have cultivated a new fan base which craves for deeper meaning to a story as much as the entertainment.
The filmmaker is now gearing up for his ninth film, the biopic based on the highest selling Punjabi musician of all times, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
“There are a lot of ‘9’ happening,” Imtiaz told Ians as he seems in a quirky mood.
“Nine is my favourite number, A.R. Rahman (his music composer) also loves nine, he has made ’99 Songs’ and ‘Chamkila’ is my ninth film”.

The first song ‘Ishq Mitaye’ from the upcoming Diljit Dosanjh-starrer film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ has been sung by Mohit Chauhan. The song, composed by Oscar and Grammy-winning composer A R Rahman, brings together the dream team of Rahman, lyricist Irshad Kamil, director Imtiaz Ali and Mohit Chauhan, who had earlier delivered chartbuster music in ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’.
The track is a blend of traditional and modern beats, weaving a musical narrative of the dramatic times in which Chamkila became the iconic music star for the masses in Panjab – the highest record selling artiste ever.
It’s strongly reminiscent of the Punjabi music of the 1980s.
The song was released on Thursday at the ‘Next on Netflix’ event in Mumbai in the presence of Parineeti Chopra, Diljit Dosanjh, Rahman, Mohit Chauhan, Imitiaz Ali and Irshad Kamil.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is known for films like ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’, got emotional as a part of his alma mater is approaching demolition. The filmmaker recently took to his Instagram to share an array of pictures of his beloved Hindu College hostel as it’s set to be demolished and reconstructed. Although the hostel building will be reconstructed incorporating new amenities, the thought of the building being razed to the ground made him emotional because of the memories etched on his subconscious of his time in the premises.
Imtiazwrote in the caption, “Is this the last time I am seeing you? So much of me is here..”
Like his movies, the pictures in his social media post too tell a story — a bittersweet story of moving on painted on the canvas of memories.
Imtiaz attended Hindu College, University of Delhi, where he took part in college theatre.

Imtiaz Ali might have earned a lot of hate with his latest, Jab Harry Met Sejal but we are sure that this latest news will spread smiles among the sulking fans! Jab Harry Met Sejal may not have worked but Jab Imtiaz Met Ranbir, it was a blast! The actor and the director have worked together in Rockstar (2011) and Tamasha (2015), which were both a hit amongst the most loyal of Imtiaz Ali’s work. And now, they are teaming up once again! Such a happy development! According to reports, Imtiaz is ready with the script of his next film and Ranbir is ready to star: Ranbir will be a part of Imtiaz’s next. That’s not all the actor will go through massive transformation for this film. Imtiaz plans to show different stages of the character’s life.” We might not see the film being made right away, as...

If the flop-ridden Hindi film industry had its hopes pinned on the new Shah Rukh Khan starrer for salvation, then it’s time to unpin those hopes.
Imtiaz Ali’s eagerly awaited Jab Harry Met Sejal is a lengthy lumbering, baggy and pointless love story….as lengthy, lumbering, etc, as his earlier Tamasha where two grown-up individuals behaved like a bratty unpleasant couple on a reality-show pretending to be people they were not.
Just imagine if Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone met again in an exotic land and decided to play….ummm…. a cranky closet-misogynist tourist guide and a fast-taking vacuous but charming Gujarati tourist.
Fun, no?
Well, no. Not really. Shah Rukh’s Harry with his unabashed cheesiness and ‘cheapness’ plays his part with an arrogant aplomb that seems borrowed from his superstar persona of Aryan Khanna in Maneesh Sharma’s Fan. Here is a man who will do what he wants,...

When the Cannes Film Festival unveiled its 2017 Official Selection, the lack of a single title by an Indian director marked the second year running that the biggest film industry in the world has been unrepresented in the main lineup (the last Indian movie in the Official Selection was Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Masaan” in 2015’s Un Certain Regard section).
Indian cinema has never been a complete non-entity at Cannes; ever since Chetan Anand won top honors with “Neecha Nagar” at the inaugural festival in 1946, Indian filmmakers have enjoyed some degree of exposure at Cannes, in or out of competition. In the last decade alone, screenings have included features and shorts from close to 30 Indian filmmakers, including Vikramaditya Motwani, who wowed audiences with “Udaan”; Ritesh Batra with his Grand Golden Rail-winning “The Lunchbox”; and Anurag Kashyap, whose “Ugly,” “Gangs of Wasseypur” and “Raman Raghav 2.0” all opened to applause at various Directors’ Fortnights.
