A number of deceased characters appear as zombie soldiers. Two of Venturestein's squadmates are clearly expired Hank and Dean clones. Sonny and Ted from the Groovy Gang also appear.
The quip about Venturestein wearing bicycle shorts in the rain is a reference to the replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner.
During Sgt Hatred's flashback, his real last name is shown to be Haine making his name Courtney R. Haine. It is also revealed that he was injected with "Soldier-X". "Haine" translates from French literally as "hatred," and is the name of the critically acclaimed 1995 French film directed by Mathieu Kassovitz.
Not surprisingly a large number of the Abominations are pop culture references. Oompa Loompas appear in Venturstein's Army, along with the creature from the Black Lagoon, subjects of Dr Moreau and the creature from "The Fly". The boat that arrives at the end is carrying 3 people who are bandaged together (a reference to the movie Human Centipede) and the monkey creature from a Very Venture Halloween.
