The expansive “Rick and Morty” multiverse just got a little bit bigger. The hit Adult Swim animated series just debuted the first-ever footage from the hotly anticipated anime spinoff series simply titled, “Rick and Morty: The Anime.”
According to the teaser, the new anime-inspired show will debut with 10 episodes on Adult Swim and HBO Max “sometime this year.”
Takashi Sano is the spinoff director and previously helmed the anime shorts “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).”
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano said in an earlier press release. “It’s such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”

When Fast & Furious director Justin Lin was revealed to be at the helm of the live-action One-Punch Man film back in June 2022, the script was in the hands of Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner of Venom and Jumanji: The Next Level . While anime fans still look forward to the third season of One Punch Man, the beloved manga series may now have a future in theaters. Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced a live-action film way back in 2020 and the progress has been really slow on the project. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were initially signed on as writers, but the latest reports suggest that Rick and Morty writers Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.

Fast & Furious director Justin Lee will be the one helming the film. He is expected to bring the high-octane action package to Saitama’s story on the big screen. One-Punch Man became one of the best-selling manga series of all time just before the announcement of the film in April 2020.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, German maestro filmmaker Werner Herzog discussed his plans to lead the 3rd Film Accelerator program organized by Barcelona-based La Selva. Herzog and his long-time cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger will be on hand to guide the 25 directing and 25 cinematography aspirants who will pair up to create short films no longer than 10 mins in length.
On day one, he will give them a framework on which to base their project. “They’re not to come with a pre-formulated plan for their projects,” said Herzog, who revealed that he was lending his voice to “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming hand-drawn animated feature about deep-sea creatures.
This would not be the first time for Herzog, who has lent his distinguished gravelly voice to many other parts in the past, most notably in episodes of “The Simpsons,” “The Boondocks” as well as Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty” and “Metalocalypse.

Epic Games has seen a huge amount of success since the release of their Battle Royale Fortnite and much of this success can be c credited to the game’s constantly changing landscape and the very successful collaborations the company has undertaken with fan-favorite companies such as Marvel and even with popular animated TV series such as Rick and Morty and of course who could forget the FortnitexFamily Guy crossover.
So it comes as no surprise that the game is adding yet another beloved property to its already impressive resume in the form of one of Nickelodeon’s most popular franchises Avatar: The Last Airbender and fans are seriously excited about one addition to the game.

From sitcoms to superhero movies, the concept of multiverse is now every director’s favorite, it seems. From the world of animation to Hollywood, multiverses are really popular nowadays. However, Dcau filmmakers are not pretty happy about this special concept turning into an everyday theme.
A still from Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths- Part One
DC Animated Universe (Dcau) started in 1992 and ended in 2006. However, filmmakers are still using comics to make animated movies and fans are really positive towards these kinds of movies. But, it looks like the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths filmmakers never really wanted others to normalize the concept of the multiverse.

The theory of a multiverse i.e., multiple universes (parallel and anti-parallel) running simultaneously has been often used in movies and series to mess with people’s brains. Well, franchises like the Dcau and the MCU have been working on the concept relentlessly for several years.
With these comic giants and other franchises working excessively on this single concept, people would often find all the stuff repetitive and unnecessary. One particular Dcau film got the short end of the stick when the concept of the multiverse went mainstream!
Incursion destroyed Universe in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
When The Concept of Multiverse Went Mainstream
People remember a time when superhero movies were only about fighting a bad guy, saving the world, and calling it a day. The start of the MCU (Iron Man) had a similar style and fans indeed loved the film.

Rick and Morty is one of the few cartoons that left a lasting impression in the minds of viewers, and much of it has to do with Justin Roiland. As a series, it is impeccable since it combines science and humor, making it a delightful watch.

Nobody does April Fools’ Day better than Adult Swim. For the past 20 years, the network has made it an annual mission to keep the prankish spirit of the jester-based day alive by throwing its viewers a curveball. Ezra Miller’s role in Prime Video’s Invincible has seemingly been recast in the wake of the actor’s controversies leading up to the release of The Flash.
In season one of the animated series, Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, voiced District Attorney Sinclair, a genius who attended Upstate University and believes that human weaknesses can be solved by engineering. After being defeated by the Invincible team, he returns in this week’s episode of season two, “I’m Not Going Anywhere.”
This time around, however, it appears the mad scientist is no longer voiced by Miller but instead by Eric Bauza. The actor has more than 350 voice credits, including X-Men ’97, Krapopolis, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Rick & Morty.

One of the more fascinating aspects of the "Star Wars" franchise is just how many of its most important bits of lore don't arrive until the second movie, and sometimes not until the third. Yoda isn't in the first movie at all, for instance, nor is there any initial indication that Darth Vader is Luke's father. In perhaps the most awkward example of a creator not quite knowing where the story was heading, "A New Hope" also spends an uncomfortable amount of time lingering on the idea of a Luke/Leia romance.
Although everyone now knows that Leia and Han are the true main couple of the "Star Wars" franchise, back in 1977 it sure seemed like there was a love triangle being established here. Would Leia end up with the bad boy Han or the goody-two-shoes Luke? In the wait for "The Empire Strikes Back," it felt like anyone's guess.

In the famed "Rick and Morty" episode "Pickle Rick", the mad scientist Rick (Justin Roiland) uses his bizarre scientific acumen to transform his body into a pickle. He initially claims that he conducted his weird experiment for reasons of study, but it's made clear right away that he turned himself into a pickle specifically to avoid going to group therapy with his family. His daughter Beth (Sarah Chalke) leaves Rick alone in his garage, taking the syringe of antidote that would transform him back into a human. Rick, not being able to move as a pickle, is batted around by a cat and knocked into a sewer. He manages to create locomotion for himself using his tongue on a cockroach's exposed brain. He is eventually able to construct gross, muscular limbs out of rat cadavers, as well as weapons and jet packs from other sewer detritus. Rick, as a rat pickle,...

With the big premieres headquartered at the famous art deco Paramount Theatre in Austin, audiences were treated to appearances by the legendary Susan Sarandon (“Gutter”), a reunited Cheech & Chong, and for the creme de la creme we were in the “Cage.” The great Nicolas Cage appeared on behalf of “Arcadian.”

Susan Sarandon is an Oscar Winning (“Dead Man Walking”) and ultimate cult actress (the legendary Janet in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”). She made her inauspicious debut in the (naturally) cult hippie film “Joe” and has had memorable roles in “Pretty Baby,” “Atlantic City,” “The Hunger,” “Bull Durham,” “Thelma and Louise,” “Lorenzo’s Oil” “Robot & Frank” and most recently as the voice of Dr. Wong in “Rick and Morty.” She represented her latest star turn...

Dan Harmon has established a pretty neat little entertainment empire, creating the beloved cult hit "Community" before co-creating "Rick and Morty" and overseeing Apple TV+'s "Strange Planet" and Fox's "Krapopolis." But it's been a rocky road to success for Harmon, who was previously kicked off his own show before being rehired, and in 2018 had to publicly apologize for his prior mistreatment of "Community" writer Megan Ganz — and those are just a couple of examples of the man's controversies. Despite these debacles, however, Harmon has been an entertainment mainstay for well over a decade at this point, and during that time he's not only managed to create several of his own successful shows, but he's also apparently been fairly influential in perhaps the biggest Hollywood success story of the modern era: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the same way we wouldn't have "Rick and Morty" or "Community" without Dan Harmon,...

I’m pretty lucky; I have lived through some major pop culture events: the Tim Burton Batman films changed comic book media, the birth of Image comics, seeing how Star Trek The Next Generation birthed a new fandom, etc. But one of the biggest events was seeing how animation wouldin a few short years change forever. The Simpsons is one example of how cartoons started to break new ground. Yet, there was one cartoon that broke the world of American animation. It was gross, it was crass, it was unlike anything we had ever seen. If the Simpsons were an explosion, Ren & Stimpy were the atomic bomb. Today many popular cartoons can all trace their origins back to an insane Chihuahua and a stupid big-nosed cat. It is undeniable Ren & Stimpy changed the face of animation. However, the story behind the show’s genesis is full of rebellion,...

“Oppenheimer” grabbed two out of three prizes at the Motion Picture Sound Editor’s 71st Golden Reel Awards on March 3 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. Christopher Nolan’s explosive Oscar favorite won Dialogue/Adr and Effects/Foley, while Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” snagged Music Editing. Both films were led by supervising sound editor Richard King.
After also taking the top sound mixing prize this weekend at the 60th Cas Awards, “Oppenheimer” is now in the Oscar driver’s seat against the other sound nominees: “The Zone of Interest.” “Maestro,” “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” and “The Creator.”
The other Golden Reel film winners went to “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” for animated feature, “32 Sounds” for documentary, and “Society of the Snow” for foreign language. The seventh season of Rick and Morty ended in December, tying up many arcs in the beloved sitcom. The season had the task of going ahead and re-voicing all the episodes after co-creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland was fired from the show due to his legal issues. The season of the show followed Rick and Morty’s adventures as they pursued Rick Prime.
While the final episode of the show tied up the arc of the main characters, there are still many seasons to go. With the main two antagonists of the series getting a resolution, fans have been coming up with theories on who the next season’s villain might be. In an interview with Variety, creator Dan Harmon debunked a popular theory by Mat Pat. Spoilers ahead.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from Season 7 of Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” now streaming on Max.
With its Season 7 finale “Fear No Mort” airing in December, “Rick and Morty” was able to close off what had already been a rollercoaster of a season, one that delivered closure to the arcs of our beloved duo, and tying the knot on the series’ main plot thread — while still looking ahead at the uncharted territory left for Rick and Morty to venture to.
The show’s audience seems to have responded to the animated series’ latest offering: Its seventh season was released on Max in January, and according to Warner Bros. Discovery, is tracking about 25% higher than Season 6 in terms of viewing accounts through its first three weeks of availability.

For the first time since the show became exclusive to Peacock, The Office has made the weekly streaming rankings.
The long-running comedy series racked up 602 million minutes of viewing time for the week of Jan. 22-28, good enough for ninth place among library series. It’s the first appearance for The Office — which was a regular entrant in the early days of the Nielsen rankings — since it left Netflix for Peacock at the beginning of 2021.
At the top of the rankings for the week is Griselda, Netflix’s drama about the infamous drug queenpin starring Sofia Vergara. The series had 1.59 billion minutes of watch time over its first four days of release (it premiered Jan. 25). Reacher (741 million minutes) hung on in second place among original series a week after its second season finale on Prime Video, beating out Netflix’s docuseries American Nightmare (676 million).

Hulu has ordered the half-hour comedy series “Chad Powers” from Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, Variety has learned.
Powell will star in the series in addition to co-creating and co-writing the pilot with Waldron, with both serving as executive producers. The show is based on the Chad Powers character created by Eli Manning for his Epsn+ docuseries “Eli’s Places.” Manning wanted to learn more about the walk-on process for college football, so he donned a wig and prosthetic makeup so he could go undercover during the Penn State football tryouts.
The official description for the series states, “When bad behavior nukes hotshot Qb Russ Holliday’s (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”

Lionsgate has finally released the first trailer for Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie nearly 10 years after the project was announced. While the preview is relatively light on plot details, it certainly emphasizes the “edgy” style of humor that has helped make the Borderlands game franchise so notable and sometimes divisive.
The Borderlands franchise has only grown since the original Borderlands game was launched way back in 2009, but the series has remained remarkably consistent during that time. Most of the Borderlands games feature a group of treasure hunters navigating cel-shaded wasteland environments, a ton of loot to collect, and an emphasis on comedy. Said comedy includes everything from pop culture parodies and social satire to those timeless fart jokes. Imagine a Mad Max-like episode of Rick and Morty, and you probably won’t be too far off.

The influence of Todd McFarlane can be felt wherever you look in current entertainment. Whether it’s the phenomenal toys that bear a striking resemblance to their real-life counterparts or characters like Venom appearing in his third film venture, it’s hard not to take note. McFarlane created some of the best characters of the 90s in both Venom and Spawn. Heck, his design of Spider-Man is still one of the most memorable out there. And with his proposed Spawn film starring Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner languishing in development hell, you better believe we asked him about that!
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to talk with McFarlane about his varied career. While he was pretty reserved in regard to his future projects, he was a wealth of knowledge when it came to toys. We discussed how his company was able to improve toys as a whole,...

The film, simply titled “Navalny” and directed by Daniel Roher, beat top competition, including “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” and “All That Breathes,” to win the prize.
“We are all overcome with emotions today,” the statement, attributed to the entire filmmaking team collectively, begins. “Pain, sadness, and most of all anger. It’s been a rough time to be a Scooby-Doo fan lately. When David Zaslav became CEO of Warner Bros., he swooped in and cancelled not just Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, but also three separate Scooby-Doo projects: Scoob! Holiday Haunt, Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted High Rise, and Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups. But now there’s a Rumor going around that there’s a new Scooby-Doo project in the works… and it appears that this one would be a crossover between characters from the Scooby-Doo franchise and characters from the Gremlins franchise. The title page of a script called Scooby-Doo! Gremlins Getaway recently appeared online, with the title written in a mixture of Scooby-Doo and Gremlins fonts.
We can’t say for sure that Scooby-Doo! Gremlins Getaway is happening, but it would make sense. Scooby-Doo has had crossovers with a lot of other franchises and characters throughout the years – Batman,...

Throughout the 90’s, the popularity of more adult-oriented animation on TV would continue rising until the traditional kid-friendly Cartoon Network began airing more adult-animated programs after 11 pm. They eventually launched their Adult Swim slate of programs that catered to an adult audience that would be watching TV at that late of an hour. We would see the rise of cult hits such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. But no show seemed to have true crossover success until December 2, 2013, when an animated show debuted that resembled a more adult version of Back to the Future. The show came from controversial figure Dan Harmon who had recently been fired from his network series Community, yet it would be the show’s other creator that ten years later would make headlines for his off-screen behavior. It’s time we delve into the controversy surrounding Rick and Morty,...

The "Back to the Future" films are incredibly beloved, with a unique impact on pop culture that's almost hard to quantify. Robert Zemeckis' 1985 film "Back to the Future" spawned two sequels, a video game, and even a musical, as well as providing the genesis for the adult cartoon "Rick and Morty." The first movie is a zany tale of down-on-his-luck teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who ends up traveling through time in a DeLorean with the help of mad scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), wreaking havoc on the timeline and engaging in all kinds of silly time travel tropes along the way. The second film is a direct continuation of the first, with time travel to 1955 and 2015 to try and create the best future for Marty and his family. It's not as beloved as the first movie, but folks are still pretty fond of it. Then there's the "Back to the Future Part III,...

Here are three pieces of breaking Rick and Morty news.
First, the Emmy-winning series will return for its eighth season sometime in 2025, ending the show’s recent streak of having new episodes annually (the show’s seventh season had its finale in December). The reason for the push: Last year’s five-month Writers Guild strike delayed production on the new episodes.
But starting today, the show’s seventh season is now on Max, which means all that Rick and Morty episodes are now on the streamer.
Also, the debut season of spin-off Rick and Morty: The Anime will premiere this year, and Adult Swim has just released the first in-show footage (below) from the project:
Rick and Morty: The Anime is from director Takashi Sano (Tower of God) who previously directed two acclaimed anime shorts in the Rick and Morty universe: “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God...

Variety’s annual Showrunners Dinner presented by A+E Studios on Thursday night gathered writers recognized on the publication’s annual TV Producers Impact List, as well as several of this year’s Emmy nominees. In addition, megaproducer Chuck Lorre was honored with Variety’s first Norman Lear Award.
Held at Merois, on the rooftop of the Pendry West Hollywood, the Variety Showrunners Dinner included a very funny acceptance speech by Lorre, who pointed out some of the similarities — but more humorously, the differences — between the two icons.
“I think everyone here understands the enormity and significance of Norman Lear’s body of work,” Lorre began. “So in accepting this award, I don’t think it’s false modesty to take a moment and focus on the very large differences between his career and my own. For starters, Norman Lear began his career writing for Hollywood legends like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
