Boney M. singer Bobby Farrell was replaced with the character of Gaap in the TV appearance. In the original Episode #29.48 (1992), Farrell wears a long white cape and a Rasputin-esque fake beard.
When Gaap has Nida look into the future, her eyes are reminiscent of when characters view their day in The Entire History of You (2011).
Nida's surname is Huq is the last name of creator Charlie Brooker's wife, Konnie Huq, who co-wrote Fifteen Million Merits (2011).
The opening credit say the episode is a "Red Mirror" film, hence the more horror/less technological theme.
Gaap presents Nida with an alternative to either take an action and kill three people herself or be a passive observer and let billions to die. This is a variation of an ethical dilemma called the "Trolley Problem".
