While “Bridgerton” is known for its steamy sex scenes, Season 3 lead star Nicola Coughlan asked for even more sultry moments onscreen.
The actress told Stylist (via Buzzfeed) that she wanted to be “very naked” for a particular scene in the latest Netflix season.
“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,” Coughlan said of working with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought, ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked!'”
She added of collaborating with Talbot, “You go, ‘Ok, what do I want to show? What don’t I want to show? What’s scripted,...

How do the makers of Bridgerton keep a fandom as dedicated as theirs guessing? How does the Netflix show surprise a core of fans who are so intimately familiar with Julia Quinn’s source books that they’re anticipating every blush and ball before it even gets to the screen?
One solution, as has happened in season three, is to play with the established order of things. Though Benedict Bridgerton’s romance follows on from that of his brother Anthony’s in Quinn’s book series, the TV show has (rightly!) vaulted over that to first show the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Their other answer? Invention. In addition to TV-only characters Madame Delacroix, Will and Alice Mondrich and Queen Charlotte herself, a new raft of invented-for-the-show characters appear in season three. Here they all are, along with info on the actors playing them, plus a couple...

Two new British series are doing more to electrify the current TV season than a whole streaming platform’s worth of star-studded dramas. Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer may have sent Netflix subscribers down a rabbit hole in search of wrongdoers, but it’s actually a bracingly compassionate look at survivors and their abusers. Camilla Whitehill’s Big Mood, which premiered April 19 on Tubi, similarly ventures into thorny territory with panache, only it keeps one foot firmly planted in comedy the whole time.

Nicola Coughlan opened up about her support for Palestine and how she was told it could affect the acting gigs she’s offered.
In a Teen Vogue cover story, the Bridgerton star sat down to discuss the show’s upcoming and highly anticipated season three. In the conversation, she also got candid about her support for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Coughlan has been vocal on social media about her support for the people, especially the children, of Palestine, who are caught in the middle of the Israel-Hamas War. She acknowledged her support stems from a “moral responsibility to give back” because of her privilege as a white woman.
The actress noted her advocacy began before she landed her breakout role on Derry Girls. She was involved in different causes, like going door-to-door campaigning for marriage equality in her home country of Ireland and marching for abortion rights.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Big Mood Season 1.] Big Mood has landed on Tubi and with it, the complicated friendship between writer Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) and bar-owner Eddie (Lydia West), who are tight-knit, but also struggle to maintain their cool as Maggie’s bipolar disorder and Eddie’s financial troubles put a strain on the ease of that relationship. The six-episode season follows the pair as they go through day-to-day struggles, but it seems they reach their final straw when Maggie isn’t able to accompany Eddie for an abortion, despite promising her she’d be there. While Maggie’s absence stems from wonky medication levels throwing off her sense of time, it’s enough to lead Eddie to pack her bags after the closure of her bar for a solo getaway after the two had initially planned to jet set together. Netflix; Tubi There is clear pain between them in that final moment, leading...

Nicola Coughlan said she would spontaneously burst into tears while balancing filming schedules for Bridgerton and Big Mood.
“I’d film one show during the week, the other on the weekend,” Coughlan told AP Entertainment. Coughlan stars as Penelope Bridgerton in season three of Netflix’s Bridgerton, out next month, and as Maggie in the UK’s Channel 4 comedy Big Mood, released in March.
“I remember that I was so tired, I would just start crying randomly,” Coughlan said of balancing both projects at once. “And I would I would be saying, ‘There’s nothing actually wrong with me. I am just very tired.’ I had to learn my Big Mood script on the Bridgerton set.”

Pssst, Mr. and Mrs. Coughlan. Only watch the Bridgerton DVD. Do Not turn on the television.
Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington on the Shondaland bodice-ripper, revealed in an interview on SiriusXM Hits 1 that she has it written into her contract that Netflix and Shondaland must provide a PG-version of Bridgerton for her family’s viewing.
“It’s literally written into my contract,” she said. “People think I’m like saying it as a joke. I just don’t want to. I grew up Irish Catholic. That’s just not how we vibe.”
It all dates to her mother’s surprise at the show’s nudity upon watching season 1. “When she first saw Bridgerton, she didn’t know it was gonna be so saucy,” Coughlan recalled. “And then you get a bottom, Jonathan Bailey’s lovely bottom, about two minutes into the first episode ever. Nicola Coughlan plays Penelope Featherington, the youngest daughter in the Featherington family, in Netflix’s historical romance-drama Bridgerton. Coughlan’s character was portrayed as a reluctant debutante in Regency-era London. The Big Mood actress had several steamy scenes throughout the two seasons of the show. Since Coughlan’s family is Irish Catholic and would not be happy about these scenes in the series, the actress had a special clause written into her contract.

Nicola Coughlan is revealing one stipulation in her Bridgerton contract that is actually more for her parents.
The actress, who plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix period drama, shared in a recent interview with SiriusXM Hits 1, via The Independent, that she demanded the show provide an alternate cut of season three with less nudity to show her family.
“It’s literally written into my contract,” Coughlan said. “People think I’m like saying it as a joke. I just don’t want to. I grew up Irish Catholic. That’s just not how we vibe.”
The Derry Girls actress, who appeared throughout Bridgerton‘s first two seasons, has previously talked about the “spicy” upcoming season, which centers on her character being courted by Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton. She told Entertainment Tonight last year that “a lot of the stuff from the books that the fans expect has made it into the show.

A raucous comedy from playwright Camilla Whitehill, “Big Mood” teams “Bridgerton” and “Derry Girls” alum Nicola Coughlan with ‘It’s a Sin’ star Lydia West to dive headlong into mental illness and friendship. Fremantle, heading global distribution, will showcase the project in Cannes as part of its Mipcom slate. The market kicks off Oct.16.
A divinely sardonic and captivating laugh riot, the upcoming Channel 4 series presents an earnest portrait of mania and biologically-induced despair in a world where mental health has been commodified and sanitized for ease of consumption. Whitehill manages a highly nuanced depiction of Coughlan’s Maggie, whose bipolar pendulum swings erratically, as she tries desperately to regain control of her fleeting agency while clinging tightly to longtime friend Eddie, played by West.
“We’ve done a lot of patting ourselves on the back as a society, saying, ‘We’re really facing mental health,’ but we’re not.

Exclusive: Adult Material star Siena Kelly has boarded BBC Three witch drama Domino Day, as the show’s EP Laurence Bowen spotlights his indie Dancing Ledge’s work with new writers.
Domino Day, which comes from first-time writer and Dancing Ledge Writer in Residence (Wir) Lauren Sequeira, is an irreverent comedy-drama about modern dating in which the protagonist uses dating apps to hunt, rather than find love.
Kelly, who was BAFTA nominated for her role in Channel 4’s Adult Material, will play Domino, a powerful young witch who is haunted by her need to feed on the energy of others, a hunger that only grows, despite her attempt to start her life over in Manchester. She is desperately seeking a community who can help her understand her feelings but, unbeknownst to her, she is being tracked by a coven of witches.

“Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan and “It’s a Sin’s” Lydia West are set to co-star in a new comedy for Channel 4 titled “Big Mood” (working title).
The show, which was previously titled “Super Close,” will be produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions. It was written and created by Camilla Whitehill (“Porters”). “Brooklyn Nine Nine” director Rebecca Asher is also on board to helm the six part series, which is set to start shooting this spring. Fremantle will handle global sales.
According to the logline, the show “is a vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness.”
It follows the friendship of Maggie (Coughlan) and Eddie (West) who spent their twenties living in each other’s pockets.
But as they look forward to the next decade – with all its pressures, career-related and otherwise – Maggie’s bipolar disorder makes an unwelcome return.
