- The FBI are getting closer to the head of HR. Mr. Reese tries to prevent a young journalist that likes taking risks from being killed. To avoid getting media attention, Mr. Reese starts dating her. Fusco is playing double.
- Protecting the latest number that the machine dispenses will be difficult for Reese and Finch because of the large number of potential perpetrators of the crime due to the enemies she's acquired through her work. She is investigative New York Journal reporter Maxine Angelis, who has a bulldog mentality when it comes to getting the story. She is working on three stories concurrently, each which have its potential perpetrators. The first is illegal campaign fund-raising for current New York City councilor and mayoral candidate Ed Griffin, who is running against idealistic district attorney Landon Walker. The second is uncovering the head of HR, which has several New York City police, formerly including Fusco, in its back pocket. This aspect of the case places Fusco in a difficult position in his current role as Reese's inside man into HR. She gets an anonymous tip that the head of HR may be Christopher Zambrano, the son of a mafia don, a lead which she follows relentlessly. And third, which may place Reese in a difficult position in trying to protect her, is uncovering the identity of who the authorities are calling the suited man who comes out of nowhere to save the day but in the process uses less than legal means to do so. Finch comes up with what he believes a solution to have Reese get close to her without divulging his identity as the wanted suited man. But as Reese gets close to Maxine in this role, he finds that things are not quite as clear cut as they seem on the surface. As such, Reese and Finch call in the assistance of an old friend.—Huggo
- The Machine delivers the number of the investigative journalist Maxine Angelis, a bold woman that has many powerful enemies due to her way of working. She has just exposed the politician Ed Griffin, who is candidate of Mayor, for illegal campaign fund-raising. Now she is looking for the HR Chief since the FBI is arresting several dirty cops. And Finch finds that she has a backup story of the man wearing suit, meaning Reese. Therefore, Reese cannot expose himself to her. Out of the blue, she receives an anonymous tip that the head of the HR would be Christopher Zambrano, who is the son of a Mafia kingpin Vittorio Zambrano and considered a honest man. She makes a shallow checking and publishes he matter. Meanwhile Finch makes arrangement for a blind date of Reese and Maxine. Christopher is murdered and then Maxine learns that he was a honest man that would provide evidence in a journal that belonged to his father to the FBI to arrest the head of the HR and concludes that she was used. While dating Maxine, Reese suggests that the suited man would be an urban legend, and Finch uses Zoe Morgan to improve the dating. Now Maxine wants to find Vittorio's journal to arrest the leader of the HR while hunted down by the HR criminals.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- We open with discussion of a hotly contested mayoral race between candidates named Griffin and Walker. A reporter named Maxine has been writing that Griffin's key fundraiser is dirty. We see Maxine essentially blackmail the man, named Hicks, as he waits for a hooker. Hicks starts to talk and we see that Maxine is the latest number for Finch and Reese. Reese wonders if she's in danger from a subject of one of her exposes. We see Maxine get a call from an editor about impending indictments of dirty NYPD officers.
Carter meets with Agent Donnelly prior to the indictments. Donnelly's not happy because he knows he doesn't have the person who is running HR. Another cop warns Carter the person who catches the HR head "better be bulletproof."
Fusco gets into his cruiser, only to find Simmons is waiting for him in the back seat. He saw Fusco helping Reese. Simmons says that although HR is down they're not out. He thinks the FBI has something that could bring them all down and wants Fusco to make it disappear, telling him that he needs it to go away as bad as they do. Simmons says if Fusco makes that happen he can get out.
Maxine meets with Quinn, Griffin's campaign manager. He warns Maxine that Griffin is probably going to come after her.
Finch works on hacking Maxine's files to find out what she's working on. They hear her tell her editor the real story is finding the head of HR. He says there's no story until she has a name. A man calls Maxine and tells her the big boss of HR is Christopher Zambrano, the son a former mafia don. For the most part Zambrano is clean, operating an import/export business. Maxine calls an FBI agent who owes her a favor. He confirms the feds have been looking at Zambrano.
Maxine meets with Zambrano and tells him she thinks he in charge of HR. She asks him about arguing with Donnelly. Zambrano starts to get angry and Reese thinks about going in. Finch tells him not to, saying he's learned Maxine is also working on a story about Reese's identity and the machine. Reese needs to protect her without confirming the "man in the suit" exists.
Finch thinks Reese needs to enlist some back-up, so Reese asks Carter and Fusco for help. Carter thinks if Zambrano has Maxine killed it will never be connected to him. Fusco lies to Reese about not having seen Simmons in awhile.
Maxine files a story about Zambrano being the head of HR and his arrest being imminent. It is posted to the paper's website.
Finch found a way to guarantee that Reese has a date with Maxine that night through an online dating service she's been using. Finch talks Reese though the date, helping him to seem like the kind of man Maxine would like. Maxine tells Reese about the "man in the suit" and her desire to put him on every magazine in the country. Carter calls Reese with information that Maxine's story is completely wrong. Zambrano isn't even a suspect. Her story has put a bull's-eye on the chest of an innocent man, as every crook HR pissed off wants to come after Zambrano. Maxine isn't in danger, Zambrano is. Maxine's editor calls her with the same information.
Reese gives her a ride to Zambrano's business so she can check on him. They find Zambrano has been killed.
Maxine and Reese give statements to Carter. Donnelly shows up and has more questions for Maxine. He wants the name of the person who first told her that Zambrano was the head of HR. She tells him when she received the anonymous tip. Donnelly tells her Zambrano was the FBI's witness to bring the HR boss down. He had been meeting with him to try and keep him safe.
Reese and Finch want to find out who the head of HR really is. Reese asks Fusco to talk to Simmons. In reality, Fusco is looking for the evidence (a ledger from his father) Zambrano had on the real boss.
Quinn calls Maxine, telling her they're throwing her under the bus. Maxine's editor tells her she's suspended until they talk to the newspaper's legal department. Maxine calls the disposable cell that called her with the tip and makes a threat.
Reese and Maxine have a drink. She realizes her arrogance cost a man his life and now wants to catch the person responsible for Zambrano's death. Outside the restaurant Reese pulls her to safety just before somebody starts shooting. They escape and head to his place.
Finch brings the dog to Reese's apartment to keep up the story from the dating site profile and hides in a closet. Maxine doesn't trust the cops enough to report what happened. Before leaving Finch tells Reese her being there is a terrible idea.
Finch gets an ID on the men who were shooting at him the night before. Both were ex-FBI.
The thinking is that since Zambrano was killed so close to the election, Griffin's opponent Walker might be the HR head. Maxine wants to find the ledger and thinks about the legitimate pieces of Zambrano's business.
In a warehouse Reese and Maxine look at merry-go-round horses Zambrano recently had delivered. Inside one of them Reese finds the ledger. At that exact moment the two FBI gunmen surprise them. Finch says Carter is on the way and thinks Reese needs to avoid taking action since it will give away who he really is. Carter and Fusco show up and quickly the FBI guys realize they're also not there on official business. A gunfight ensues. Reese turns on the merry-go-round, allowing Maxine time to look at the ledger and take a picture of a page that proves Walker is the HR head. Reese shoots a gunman just before he kills Maxine. Fusco grabs the ledger and rips out the pages with his and Simmons' names.
Walker is placed under arrest by Donnelly. Maxine's story gets on the front page.
Fusco gives Simmons the page from the ledger, but Simmons says once you're in HR you're never really out.
Reese and Maxine go on another date. She tells him she's married to her work and kisses him good-bye. She hints that she knows he's the man in the suit but isn't going to after him.
Finch tells Reese he doesn't think Walker is smart enough to run HR.
We see Simmons talking to Quinn, and we see that he is the actual head of HR.
