I started watching Collection Intervention which is basically people with Toy collections that have taken over there home and usually ticks off the spouse or girl / boyfriend. This show is basically kind of a spin off of Hoarders but unlike that show this deals with collectors which have large unorganized collections usually. The issue I have it that you have Elyse Luray from Christie's Auction house that has no degree in Psychologist or social disorders her back ground is history.
My guess that she was a picker / buyer for Christie's which basically is sweet talks people into buying and sell items through the auction house. Usually her approach is to talk telling the collector one how much their collection is worth on the market and then starts to talk them into sell and displaying the collection. Now she does do some good in have them talk with a professional psychologist about the collection and usually he tries to get them as well to move or clean up the collection and understand why they are collecting so much.
To me Elyse is a another example of a person that should not be on TV because really I am not sure how much good she is doing because usually during the show she get her way and the collector sells some of their prized collectables which are hard or impossible to replace in some cases. Yes I can understand that if they need the money like a few of them that this strategy that can work but at what cost to that collector. Of course they always show that the results are positive and that Elyse is right but down the road what happen to the collector are they better off or much worse not from a lack of cash but from the loss of a loved collected item.
I am not sure how Elyse Luray rated a TV show she is dealing with things she has no experience in the first place but yet she represents herself as an expert. To me this example of what is wrong with TV I mean let's face it there are too many shows that have no value at all. I think that Elyse Luray got this show because she is sleeping with someone that has money or dating the person / producer that came up with this crap to make her happy. It is like the all crappy house wife shows everyone pretty much knows the husband or the wife's themselves pay to be on TV because there is no value in what comes from that show the staged fights.. Yes staged for ratings... just like the Kardashians and other trash...
I do like some of the collections and rare items some of which I wish I had collected in my youth. I think that most of these collectors need help managing their collections along with properly storing and maybe selling some items which I don't see her really doing she focused on the selling of parts of the collection to make space to make the spouse happy usually.
But a better show is Toy hunter on the Travel Channel hosted by Jordan Hembrough that show he has fun with the collectors and tries to be fair with the sellers / buyer and never forces a sale and you get to see some cool stuff from the past and he does not buy everything from collectors and he gives them advice on good buys he does resell most to make money since that's his business and he has the connections for the rare toys some of which you can't find.
Personally I hope Collection Intervention show has a brief life so that not too much damaged is done to these people. Like said take a look at these people a year or 2 down the road and see if they are any better off / happy missing prized collectables.
