The roller coaster goes back up for an episode.
VetteRanger30 March 2023
In this roller coaster ride of a season, Quantum Leap seems to be alternating decent episodes with poor episodes. This one was better than the one which aired the previous week.

Sam leaps into a stewardess ... yes, that's what they were called in 1971 ... not Flight Attendants. LOL

Unfortunately, there is bad news. The flight will disappear ... presumed crashed. So it would be a good idea for Sam to figure out the problem and prevent the plane and all its passengers disappearing into the Atlantic Ocean.

We mostly get a break from the confused Martinez arc until the very end, when the "home team" has to figure out what to do about Ziggy.

This episode did keep my interest compared to the weak episode from the previous week.

"Average" Episode

Warning: Spoilers
"Friendly Skies" wasn't a great episode, but it wasn't a bad episode, either. But then again, neither were a lot of the original QL episodes.

Main thing was that it seemed like some of the stuff, like Ben being in a woman's body, is a card the new show has already played and a few times too often. I'm not going to try and count the number of times in each show, but it sure seems like Ben has Leaped into a woman a number of times in one season equal to what Sam did in the five seasons of the original. It's no longer that special. But then again, maybe that's the point.

Good thing was that it felt to me like the supporting cast were all used to good effect, rather than one supporting character getting the spotlight. Ian got to help Ben fly the jet, Addison snarked a bit, Magic and Jenn both knew something about hijacking and found information on the hjjackers.

Also the supporting characters in the Leap got their moments. Cory got a few decent bits, Holly and Leslie got some decent bits. Paul Kirk (any relation to DC's original Manhunter?) had some decent bits. None of them were overwhelming except Cory, but I got the impression he was supposed to be.

Overall it was a decent episode. I wouldn't say it was incredible, but I wouldn't say it was horrible, either.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Airplane!

Warning: Spoilers
Here Ben Song is a stewardess (a female flight attendant) from back in the day in the 1970s. Anyway, I loved the modern pop culture references in this episode, The Friendly Skies such as the I. R. A, reddit, the series Air Crash Disaster and so on. Anyway, this episode is quite action packed, probably more so than the regular episode of the original Quantum Leap, but that's okay.

This episode did bring back many memories of air crash disasters. There was no Ziggy in this episode, although in a major twist at the end Ziggy does appear in Ben's next leap in an eerie scene that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Plane Destination bogus

This epic was good except for a lot of the goods that have been pointed out. First of all the 747 holds about 367 passengers and 21 crew. The end result of saving this many lives would definitely effect the historical time line for the future in a big way. The gun issue is puzzling but I'm not sure about security measures in 1971; though we did often times have sky marshals on board international flights due to hi jacking events. My final observation is that why would a plan scheduled from New York to London be any where in the vicinity of being able to land in Puerto Rico? That diversion would have taken a long time to accomplish. Too many goofs to overlook.
