  John Reese : Let me guess, you're in some kind of trouble A life-threatening kind. I can't believe it. I am the contingency, the backup.

  Leon Tao : The what?

  John Reese : He didn't want me to find if anything went wrong. He just wanted me to keep rescuing people. People like you. So what is it? You pissed these guys off somehow and they're about ready to kill you when I just happened to walk in the door?

  Leon Tao : No, we were just we were just talking...

  Byron : [Interrupts]  You are right, Detective. Leon stole a great deal of money from us and we're just about done talking when you walked in.

  John Reese : Listen, I don't have time for this. I need to find my friend, so I'll take Leon here and we're gonna leave.

  Byron : [Puts a gun on the table]  Leon stole more than enough, in fact to make it worth us killing a cop so maybe we can make a deal. You leave Leon here with us and you can keep looking for your friend.

  John Reese : You know, the guy who owned this badge would probably have accepted the market. But I'm not him.

  Byron : So who are you?

  John Reese : The guy who shot him and stole his badge.

• John Reese : Like I told your associate, I just want to find my friend. See, I don't have many friends.Just the one, in fact.

  Detective Lionel Fusco : [Gagged]  Hey!

  John Reese : Okay, maybe two.

• Detective Lionel Fusco : You think Mr. Tao is gonna help you with the whereabouts of our four-eyed friend?

  John Reese : You almost sounded concerned, Lionel.

  Detective Lionel Fusco : Frankly, I'm not sure I want to find out what you're like without his direction.

  John Reese : Let's hope you don't have to.

• Detective Lionel Fusco : Never thought I'd see you almost lose.

  John Reese : I wasn't losing, I was just... resting.

• Detective Joss Carter : [after Root takes Finch]  Okay, I can file a missing persons, send Finch's picture to sheriff's offices, the FBI.

  John Reese : You can't. Finch went off the grid for a reason. We have to find him on our own. I have a lead, but I need you chasing down every other angle. Listen, when she took Finch, Root killed a former Intelligence operative named Alicia Corwin.

  Detective Joss Carter : Okay, I'll get myself assigned to the investigation.

  John Reese : Thank you.

  Detective Joss Carter : What are you going to be doing?

  John Reese : I'm not sure. Math, I think.

• Detective Lionel Fusco : [after being rescued from the Aryan Brotherhood]  Not a word. You hear me? We're going back to my cruiser in total silence.

  John Reese : Sure thing, Lionel. Like a gag order.

  Leon Tao : Hey, hey, guys, think you could uncuff me?

  John Reese , Detective Lionel Fusco : No!

• John Reese : Have you talked to your partner? He's not picking up his phone.

  Detective Joss Carter : He said he was going to do something for you. Don't tell me we lost Fusco too?

  John Reese : Lionel is like a fungus, impossible to get rid of!

• John Reese : [Talking at the Machine]  I'm not doing this anymore. I'm not going anywhere until you give me a way to find him.

  Leon Tao : Not this again.

  John Reese : I'm supposed to continue to save people like this idiot. I want something in return. Otherwise, I'm done.

  Leon Tao : Who you talking to? These guys're gonna kill us!

  John Reese : [unfazed]  They probably are.

  Leon Tao : So what the hell is this?

  John Reese : A negotiation.

  [Turns back to a street Cam] 

  John Reese : I know you got your rules, but I'm guessing they don't account for everybody being dead. No one's answering your phone calls, no one saving anyone. No contingency.

  Leon Tao : What do you want? You want me to give up the bonds? Give all the money? It's done. We just have to move, now!

  John Reese : [Completely ignoring Leon]  Do the math and figure out a way to bend your rules because he's my friend. He saved my life. Understand? I will not do this without him.

  The Machine : [the phone rings]  Ayacucho, Golf, Papa, Deterministic, Hotel, Sierra. Camera, Sierra kilo.

  John Reese : Thank you.

• Detective Lionel Fusco : You know, I'm thinking about charging you overtime.

  John Reese : Leon Tao.

  Detective Lionel Fusco : Does he know anything about the abduction of Mr. Vocabulary?

  John Reese : I'm afraid not, but he's about having an run in with the NYPD. I need you to make sure that nothing happens to him in jail.

  Detective Lionel Fusco : I'm getting sick of doing your dirty laundry. Go ask Carter.

  John Reese : Carter's busy working a murder investigation for me.

  Detective Lionel Fusco : See, she gets a good case and I get stuck wasting my time with this Leon.

  John Reese : Didn't you take an oath as a cop to protect and serve?

  Detective Lionel Fusco : Yeah, so?

  John Reese : So, go be a cop!

• Detective Lionel Fusco : Leon faked a heart attack and walked right out of the police station. You know, next time, you should be careful who you entrust me to.

  John Reese : I entrusted him to you!

• Leon Tao : What are you, ex-military? One of those Blackwater guys?

  John Reese : Does it matter?

  Leon Tao : Look, you seem - well, crazy, but highly capable. I just need you to take me to my car. You owe me that much.

  John Reese : How do you figure?

  Leon Tao : When you butted in, we were in the middle of a negotiation.

  John Reese : Negotiations don't usually end in bullets, and your friends in there were Aryan brotherhood, something you should have thought of before you stole from them. By the way, how much did you take?

  Leon Tao : 8 million. Hey! Look, I didn't plan on stealing, at least not at first. I had a legitimate job at Bear Stearns. Then the recession hit and we all get axed, so I take a job at this little startup. Took me six months to realize I was working for the corporate arm of the Aryan Nation, laundering profits from their meth business. You wanna call that greedy? I call it payback. Please, I gotta get out of town, or I'm roadkill. Take me to my car.

  [Reese walks up to a police car] 

  Leon Tao : Not this car!

  [Reese breaks the window and handcuffs Leon to the steering wheel] 

  Leon Tao : What're - what're you doing?

  John Reese : Keeping you safe. Like I said, I'm looking for my friend,and I don't have time to babysit you.
