Dinesh D’Souza’s next documentary “Trump Card,” a paean to the current president and attack on his Democratic opponents, is due to open in theaters on August 7, just two weeks ahead of the Republican National Convention.
In a statement, the conservative filmmaker will focus on what he said is the “corruption and gangsterization” of socialism in the Democratic party as embodied by the two remaining presidential candidates, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former vice president Joe Biden.
Here’s the full synopsis:
Written and directed by acclaimed film maker, scholar, and New York Times best selling author Dinesh D’Souza, Trump Card is an expose of the socialism, corruption and gangsterization that now define the Democratic Party. Whether it is the creeping socialism of Joe Biden or the overt socialism of Bernie Sanders, the film reveals what is unique about modern socialism, who is behind it, why it’s evil, and...

In summer 2012, conservative idealogue Dinesh D'Souza made a name for himself among political documentary filmmakers when his film 2016 Obama's America grossed $6.5 million in the first weekend of its nationwide expansion.
Obama's America ultimately topped out at $33.4 million, the second-best showing of any political doc in history, behind only his nemesis Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 ($119.2 million), not adjusted for inflation.
But this past weekend, D'Souza's pro-Trump doc Death of a Nation failed to ignite the way his anti-Obama doc did. It opened in 13th place to $2.3 million from 1,...

"2016: Obama's America," the hit documentary critical of President Obama's record, is getting a last-minute digital push in Spanish in a bid to boost Mitt Romney's chances ahead of the Nov. 6 election, the producers of the movie told TheWrap on Friday. The producers, who already have digital distribution in English with Lionsgate, have struck a new deal with digital company Yekra to release it in Spanish on Friday, according to Mark Joseph, a representative for the film. "We're just finalizing the link -- it's ready to go," said another individual working...

The filmmakers behind 2016: Obama's America, the second most successful political documentary in history, are squabbling over profits and control of Obama’s America Foundation, the limited partnership formed by those who invested in the movie. Douglas Sain -- who owns a 25 percent interest in the company, which is referred to as Oaf in legal documents -- is accusing the film’s director and star Dinesh D'Souza of misusing funds associated with 2016 and is attempting to obtain more control over Oaf going forward. Sain, who executive produced 2016 along with Gerald Molen, the Oscar–winning producer of Schindler’s List, also claims

Dinesh D'Souza has left his post as President of The King's College. The Evangelical Christian school's chairman, Andy Mills, broke the news to students, faculty and staff on Thursday, saying, "God has a mighty future for Dinesh, but there are some things he has to go through first. I have to admit, I got a bit over-enamored with him," according to The Daily Beast. D'Souza, whose anti-President Obama documentary, 2016: Obama's America has been a breakout hit, earning over $33.5 million, was the subject of a story in World Magazine that reported that he visited North

2016 Obama’s America: Organized misinformation campaign against 2016 movie as box-office grosses plummet? Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan’s 2016 Obama’s America was down 53% at the North American box office this past weekend after losing 660 venues. In other words, the 2016 movie lost about one third of its theaters; as a result, its box-office take dropped a little above the 50% mark on weekend no. 11. There’s absolutely nothing unusual about that. Dinesh D’Souza and 2016 Obama’s America distributor Rocky Mountain Pictures, however, think otherwise. (Photo: 2016 Obama’s America trailer.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rocky Mountain Pictures president Randy Slaughter has said [...]...

2016 Obama's America box office plummets, but 2016 movie is now the no. 1 2012 documentary ‘worldwide’ This weekend, Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan’s anti-Obama documentary 2016 Obama’s America was down nearly as steeply as Mitt Romney’s popularity following his "47%" remarks. Even so, based on Box Office Mojo‘s worldwide chart for 2012, the 2016 movie is now the year’s highest-grossing non-fiction film globally. (Photo: Barack Obama 2016 Obama’s America.) As I’d predicted a week ago, 2016 Obama’s America was down sharply this weekend — an estimated 54% — after losing 660 venues. Yet, with an estimated domestic cume of $32m as of Sunday, [...]...

It isn't the latest torture porn offering that the Columbia Journalism Review called "a singularly disgusting work." But the team working to reelect President Barack Obama wants to make sure you know exactly what the CJR was talking about. A post on the "Truth Team" section of the president's website attempts to demolish, point by point, the claims being made in director Dinesh D'Souza's controversial new documentary, 2016 Obama's America, in which the filmmaker argues that Obama, inspired by the father he barely knew, aspired to the presidency to spread socialism in America. "Admitting President Obama was born in the U.S. is what Bloomberg [News] calls 'as close...

Filmmaker and author Dinesh D'Souza has responded to a White House assertion that his documentary, 2016: Obama's America, is packed with lies and conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama. “Their original strategy was to lie low and hope this goes away, but now they’re launching a full-scale attack,” D’Souza told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “And this is one of the most bizarre, clumsy and ineffective attacks I have seen in politics. Half of the stuff they talk about isn’t even in the film, like the Lockerbie bomber. These guys are referencing a Columbia Journalism Review article that’s

Toronto -- The domestic box office brought more sobering news this weekend as revenues tumbled to their worst level in years. One bright spot: Anti-Barack Obama documentary 2016: Obama's America boosted its cume to north of $26 million to become the No. 2 political doc of all time behind Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 ($119.2 million). The first weekend after Labor Day is historically light in terms of moviegoing revenues, but this year was worse than usual and the first time since the same weekend in 2008 that no film grossed $10 million or more. That weekend, revenues reached $68

A few days ago the Associated Press ran a news article by reporter Beth Fouhy charging that my film "2016" contains serious factual errors. Remarkably, for a news article, the reporter didn't bother to check with me or anyone else at the film. This was my first indication that something was deeply wrong with this article. Let's look at the specific charges raised in the AP article. First, it claims that I "never mention the explosion of debt that occurred under Obama's predecessor, Republican George Bush." This is simply false. The film...

Rocky Mountain Pictures’ conservative documentary 2016: Obama's America made its mark at the box office last weekend, earning $6.5 million from 1,091 theaters — substantially more than the three studio-distributed newcomers Premium Rush, Hit and Run, and The Apparition.
The independent anti-Obama polemic, co-produced and co-directed by Dinesh D’Souza, a former Ronald Reagan policy advisor and current president of The King’s College in New York City, has earned $9.4 million since its debut seven weeks ago. Over the weekend, 2016 (passed the 2008 Ben Stein film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed to become the highest grossing conservative documentary of all time. And it’s...

"2016: Obama's America," the right-wing documentary that has rocked the box office with its challenge to the president's record, will expand to about 1,800 theaters on Friday, Rocky Mountain Pictures told TheWrap Monday night. That's up from the 1,091 theaters it played in over the weekend, when it took in $6.2 million between Friday and Sunday for a per-screen average of $5,940 -- the best of any film in wide release. It added another $1.2 million at the box office Monday. Also read: Right-Wing Documentary '2016: Obama's America' Steals Box-Office Show Produced for...

This Weekend's Winners: In a weekend where the top six finishers at the box office were all holdovers, the idea of a "winner" is relative. Still, conservative documentary 2016: Obama's America made waves by scoring $6.2 million, an impressive tally for any nonfiction film. Meanwhile, in much more limited release, Sleepwalk With Me and Samsara had promising debuts. This Weekend's Losers: Newcomers Premium Rush, Hit and Run, and The Apparation disappointed, with the latter — an Ashley Greene/Sebastian Stan horror entry shot back in early 2010 — placing outside the top ten entirely. All were modestly budgeted vehicles, but after a summer diet of big blockbusters, none of these smaller movies were able to break out.How It All Went Down: Perhaps prematurely on Friday, with the day half over, box-office soothsayer Nikki Finke sent out an e-mail alert trumpeting a truly unexpected outcome: 2016: Obama's America was number one at...

The filmmakers behind 2016: Obama's America vowed on Sunday to keep expanding the film's run based on demand. Over the weekend, the anti-Barack Obama documentary did stellar business as it expanded nationwide, grossing $6.3 million from 1,091 theaters and beating three other new films. Obama's America posted a per screen average of $5,717, the best location average of any film in the top 10. This weekend's box office was a pretty soft affair, with no new film breaking into the top five: Expendables 2 stayed at first, Bourne Legacy held the second spot, and ParaNorman was up there in third place. But the real news of the weekend was the premiere of 2016 Obama's America, the anti-Obama screed from right-wing commentator Dinesh D'Souza, which at $6.5 million clocks in as the biggest conservative documentary opener of all time.

The conservative documentary "2016: Obama's America" stole the show from Sly Stallone's bad-ass geezers and three opening films at the weekend box office, on its way to an estimated $6.2 million total for the three days. The $5,940 per-screen average posted by "2016: Obama's America" was easily the best among films playing widely. "Expendables 2" stayed on top in its second week with $13.2 million averaging $3,950 from 3,355 theaters. The documentary purports to tell what things will be like should the president be re-elected. Distributor Rocky Mountain Pictures expanded it into...

2016: Obama's America shocked box office observers with its strong Friday performance, in which it topped all other new films. It’s $2.2 million haul helped make the anti-Barack Obama movie the top grossing documentary of the year (not counting nature films), and could propel it to a $6 million weekend cume. In the film, co-director and onscreen narrator Dinesh D’Souza imagines what the U.S. would be like, should Obama win a second term—and what he imagines isn’t pretty. Here is a sampling of what the critics had to say

Friday 2 Pm: The anti-Obama movie 2016 Obama’s America went into wider release around America today and is opening right now in first place at the domestic box office. That’s quite a feat since the Rocky Mountain Pictures political documentary is still playing in only 1,090 North American theaters – or about 1/3 as many theaters as big-budget actioner The Expendables 2 (3,355 theaters). But these political documentaries like faith-based films are frontloaded. The Stallone picture from Millenium/Lionsgate is still expected to end the weekend #1 and should top the box office tonight. And, based on matinee trends, 2016 Obama's America looks to gross $1.2M-$1.7M Friday for a $3.7M-$5.M weekend. But right now it has grossed $700,000 today compared to $300,000 for The Expendables 2. Its new cume after this weekend could make it the #1 conservative documentary (ahead of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed’s $7.7M). The success of the anti-Obama pic is based on big pre-sales...

A politically charged documentary called 2016: Obama's America turned heads last weekend when it grossed a whopping $1.24 million out of just 169 theaters.
The $2.5 million independent film, which is being distributed by Utah-based Rocky Mountain Pictures, premiered in Houston six weeks ago and has recently enjoyed some extremely uncharacteristic box office behavior.
You see, normally, when a film’s theater count increases, the amount of money it’s earning in each theater decreases. This is the standard performance pattern for a limited release and follows common supply/demand logic.
