- Harold Finch: Come on. Ask me anything.
- John Reese: Good night, Harold.
- Harold Finch: Good night, Nathan.
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Did you work an identity theft case?
- Detective Joss Carter: Every arrest I ever made. They all say I got the wrong guy.
- John Reese: [Jordan Hester's ID thief has been arrested] How did you track down her old mugshot?
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Police work. Even I do it on occasion.
- Detective Joss Carter: [Arriving at a crime scene] What've we got?
- Detective Raymond Terney: Eh, African American male, seventeen years old, D.O.A.
- [Gestures to a guy in handcuffs being lead away by an officer]
- Detective Raymond Terney: Thanks to this genius over here. They got into an argument over a girl. This is open-and-closed, the kid already confessed.
- Detective Joss Carter: Did he say why he did it?
- Detective Raymond Terney: He said, and I quote, "What was I supposed to do?" And then, he said it was our fault.
- Detective Joss Carter: Yeah, how does that follow?
- Detective Raymond Terney: Said we weren't here to stop him.
- Jordan Hester: [Holding a gun] Tell me who you are.
- John Reese: Who I am doesn't matter right now. What matters is, I know who you are.
- Jordan Hester: Who am I, then? Stay back! I will shoot you.
- John Reese: How?
- [Effortlessly takes the gun from him]
- John Reese: The safety's still on. No offense, but I'm surprised you fooled these guys as long as you did. Is that really how you think a drug dealer dresses?
- John Reese: I bluejacked our guy's phone, went through his recent calls. Seems he rented a van last week.
- Harold Finch: Maybe he's finally going to buy some furniture.
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Nice job handing Moretti over to Elias.
- John Reese: I had no choice.
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Well, you got HR buzzing. Don't worry about it though, I'm pretty close to finding out who the major players are.
- John Reese: I didn't ask you here to talk about HR. I've got an assignment for you. I need you to dig up everything you can on a Jordan Hester.
- Detective Lionel Fusco: You've got me doing undercover work for HR. Now you want me to do above-the-board stuff, too? Make up your mind.
- John Reese: I didn't realize it was my job to make yours easier, Lionel.
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Hey, good cop, bad cop, it's only my life we're playing with here.
- John Reese: It's not your life I'm focused on right now, is it? Someone needs our help.
- [Slides over photos of the two potential Jordan Hesters]
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Which one?
- John Reese: Exactly.
- Jordan Hester: So this batch will be ready in what, twenty-four hours or so?
- Jekyll: If my nana was cooking it.
- Jordan Hester: Hello, Mr. Hester. Did you really think you could take over my operation?
- Jordan Hester: Well, you're here, aren't you?
- Jordan Hester: Touché. I'm thinking of keeping your name a little longer. After all, I'm a better Jordan Hester than you've ever been.
- John Reese: Which do you like better, good cop or bad cop?
- Detective Lionel Fusco: You tell me. Am I under with HR, or am I working cases with you?
- John Reese: I'll let you know.
- Kyle Morrison: You know, the more I talked to you guys, the more you twisted my words around, so, you know, maybe today I'm not in the mood.
- [Gets up to leave]
- Detective Lionel Fusco: We think what happened to you may have happened to someone else. Sit down.
- [He sits]
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Look, I know you've got not reason to trust me, and I know exactly how you feel. Everyone's got you wrong. Everyone thinks you're something that you're not and you've got no way to change their mind. You help me catch this guy, and I'll see about getting you out of here.
- Kyle Morrison: You believe me?
- Detective Lionel Fusco: Until you give me a reason not to.
- Harold Finch: Hester's living off the grid - no photos online and nothing on the social networking sites.
- John Reese: I never understood why people put all their information on those sites. Used to make our job a lot easier at the CIA.
- Harold Finch: Of course. That's why I created them.
- John Reese: You're telling me you invented online social networking, Finch?
- Harold Finch: The Machine needed more information. People's social graph, their associations. The government had been trying to figure it out for years. Turns out most people were happy to volunteer it. Business wound up being quite profitable, too.
- Harold Finch: Carter's issue isn't with you, Mr. Reese. It's with your methods. Not to mention the fact that you gave up a witness under her protection, and nearly got a cop killed in the process.
- John Reese: Nobody's perfect...
- Harold Finch: Um, Mr. Reese? You may have eyes on Hester, but I have ears on her.
- John Reese: What?
- Harold Finch: Jordan Hester. She's here in her apartment. This isn't one person leading a double life.
- John Reese: It's two people living one.
- John Reese: What exactly was your plan? You were accused of being a drug dealer, so then you decided to become one?
- Jordan Hester: No one would believe me. And I was always a bit of an introvert, you know, a private person.
- John Reese: Yeah, I know the type.
- Jordan Hester: I never thought that I would be punished for it. My old boss, police. People hear you're a drug dealer, they stop listening to you. And have you ever hit rock bottom? I never realized how far down I could go. After a while, I figured, if people keep thinking I'm this bad guy, why do I keep trying to convince them that I'm not?
- John Reese: Someone stole your identity, so you decided to steal theirs.
- Jordan Hester: Well, yeah, but only long enough to destroy this lab. That's nitric acid, not saffro. It'll melt all of this into mush, destroy this equipment. And then I was going to use the rest of this supply, about a half million dollars worth, to lure this bastard into the open.
- John Reese: Then, what? Kill him?
- Jordan Hester: I don't wanna kill anybody. I just want my identity back.
- John Reese: Okay. It's a terrible plan. But, I like it, so let's do it.
- Richard Eckhart: I can't keep doing this, Mary. I could lose my job.
- Jordan Hester: Okay, you give me what I want, or you're gonna lose a lot more than your job. Now, who do I get to be next?
- Richard Eckhart: You said a woman this time?
- Jordan Hester: Well, men tend to hold a grudge.
- John Reese: [Sneaks up to them; throws a file on the table] Try this one instead. Your name's not Mary, either. It's Tara.
- [to Eckhart]
- John Reese: You can run along.
- [He leaves, Reese continues talking to the fake Jordan]
- John Reese: Nice mugshot. Impressive rap sheet, too. Arrests for shoplifting, forging checks, insurance fraud. Torched your own name by the time you were twenty-three.
- Jordan Hester: What now? You gonna kill me?
- Jordan Hester: For a while, I thought I might have it in me. But then, I was just playing you, wasn't I?
- [Him and Reese start to leave]
- Jordan Hester: For the record, you make a terrible Jordan Hester.
