Cate Blanchett Net Worth Explored ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Cate Blanchett, who ranked eighth on the 2018 Forbes list of the highest-paid actresses in the world, triggered backlash online after describing herself as “Middle class” at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
During a press conference at Cannes, where she premiered her new movie “Rumors,” the “Oceans 8” actress, while discussing her experience with refugee filmmakers, said, “I’m white, I’m privileged, I’m middle class, and I think one can be accused of having a bit of a white savior complex.”
Cate Blanchett, who makes over $7 Million per movie, added, “But to be perfectly honest, my interaction with refugees in the field and also in resettled environments has changed my perspective on the world, and I’m utterly grateful for that.”

A New O.J. Movie Stars the Controversial Charlotte Kirk (But Definitely Not Owen Wilson)
Hey, Hollywood, anybody interested in a partially finished film about how O.J. Simpson might have been innocent? One that stars Charlotte Kirk — the English actress best known for her previous role in taking down moguls Kevin Tsujihara and Ron Meyer in a 2019 sex scandal — as Nicole Brown Simpson? If yes, this is your lucky day. According to British director Joshua Newton, about 30 minutes of The Juice (originally titled Nicole and O.J.) is in the can, mostly flashback scenes featuring Kirk and German-born actor Boris Kodjoe, currently on ABC’s Station 19, who plays the late NFL star turned acquitted murderer. Newton, who has been working on this “satirical thriller” since 2015, says the picture’s main plotline involves a real-life attorney named Douglas McCann who got sucked into various conspiracy theories during Simpson’s 1995 criminal trial.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). It also, at one point, had "The Last of Us" and "Chernobyl") writer Craig Mazin attached,...

Borderlands Sees Cate Blanchett Channel Escape From New York: ‘It’s Her Favourite Movie’ – Exclusive
It’s not like Cate Blanchett has been averse to blockbuster fare entirely – after all, her career skyrocketed when she played the ethereal Elven queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and she battled Indiana Jones in The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. But generally, Blanchett is known for her deep-dive character work – like playing Lydia Tár in TÁR, or Jasmine in Blue Jasmine, or Carol in… well, Carol. Next up, though, she’s cutting loose and blasting into action in Eli Roth’s long-awaited adaptation of sci-fi action video game Borderlands (notably not playing a character called ‘Borderlands’).
As the central Lilith, Blanchett will engage in balletic and bombastic setpieces – a register which chimes with her personal film taste as much as those character dramas. “She loves Escape From New York,” Roth tells Empire. “It’s her favourite movie. But nobody would know that because...

Eli Roth swaps serial killers for space goo in the first Borderlands trailer. Take a look here.
First trailer for the highly-anticipated Borderlands adaptation has just landed. Eli Roth is adapting the long-running game series into what Lionsgate hopes will start a franchise.
Take a look at the first bonkers trailer for Borderlands below.
Borderlands features one of the most eccentric casts for a videogame adaptation we’ve seen in a while. Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart and the voice of Jack Black? In this economy?!
Also joining the cast are Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon. Roth is also in charge of the script, together with Joe Crombie.
It doesn’t immediately strike as a classically Eli Rothian film. Roth has made his name with extreme horror and gorefests, such as Hostel and last year’s Thanksgiving. Visually, it’s a feast of colours as...

Longtime Amblin Partners executive Mia Maniscalco has been tapped as president of Coin Operated, the production banner founded by horror multi-hyphenate Gary Dauberman.
Maniscalco will oversee development and production of Coin Operated’s expanding slate, working closely with Dauberman, who has been involved in some of the biggest horror franchises of the past decade, including It, Annabelle and The Nun, as writer, producer, and even director.
Max Lippe will continue as the company’s director of development.
Maniscalco joins the company as it begins what looks to be a busy run across the horror landscape. The genre remains one of the few that have not only weathered but thrived in the harsh theatrical conditions of recent years. Dauberman late last year signed a first-look deal with Screen Gems/Sony Pictures. Director Eli Roth is returning for seconds of “Thanksgiving.” He’s cooking up a sequel to his holiday-themed slasher film, with the follow-up set to open theatrically in 2025. It’s unclear which — if any — any cast members will be back.
“Beeaking News! John Carver will kill again!” the director captioned a video on Instagram, referring to the film’s villain. “Thank you everyone who supported Original Horror in theaters!!! Go see it now on the big screen while it’s in cinemas, sequel set for release in 2025! Taking a year to really get the script right, working on it starting today!”

Thanksgiving might be over, but the scrumptious scent of Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” still lingers over the holiday horror season.
The director’s murderous pilgrim slasher — set in Plymouth, Massachusetts the year after a violent Black Friday trampling leaves three dead on the floor of a department store and puts a masked killer on the path to revenge — invaded our real-world theaters on November 17. It’s doing well with critics and audiences alike, who have been gorging on its themed gore and delighting in its snappy satire and inventive use of corncob holders as a victorious reunion for the “Cabin Fever” director and the horror genre.
Slasher fans have quickly accepted the rampage of the mysterious “John Carver” as a success by all important metrics (it’s doing well at the box office and on Rotten Tomatoes), but the villain’s Thanksgiving-timed arrival in theaters has been a longtime coming for Roth.

Eli Roth is back. And he’s here for “Thanksgiving.”
For the past decade, Roth has nimbly moved through different genres – erotic thriller (“Knock Knock”), revenge movie (“Death Wish”), family fantasy (“The House with a Clock in Its Walls”), nature documentary (“Fin”) and big budget video game adaptation (next year’s “Borderlands”). But now he’s back with a down-and-dirty horror movie, this time centered around one of the happiest time of year.
In “Thanksgiving,” adapted from a fake trailer that Roth had made for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” project, a superstore’s super sale leads to tragedy. A year later a masked man in a pilgrim costume, known as John Carver, starts taking out the townspeople involved in the tragedy, one by one. And, yes, the kills are just as creative and stomach-churning as you’d expect from the man behind “Hostel,” “Cabin Fever” and “The Green Inferno.

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we did get a bit of an update on Halloween night earlier this week. According to the latest reports, Warner Bros. is toying with the idea of bringing Salem’s Lot straight-to-streaming sometime in 2024.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate altogether. As of now, Salem’s Lot still doesn’t have a release date. If this week’s latest update is accurate, the film will be debuting on the Max streaming service in the coming months.
Taking to Twitter this week, Stephen King himself has shared his honest thoughts on Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of his classic novel. And it sounds like he’s (mostly) a fan.

DreamWorks Animation has delivered a Halloween treat: gateway horror series “Fright Krewe” has been renewed for a second season.
Look for the supernatural war brewing in New Orleans to continue when Season 2 comes to Hulu and Peacock in 2024.
“Fright Krewe” is Created and Executive Produced by Eli Roth & James Frey. The series is also Executive Produced by Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco.
In the 10-episode series, ” An ancient prophecy and a Voodoo Queen put misfit teens in charge of saving New Orleans from the biggest demonic threat it’s faced in almost two centuries. But, honestly? Saving the world might be easier than becoming friends.”
The first season of 10 episodes recently debuted on Hulu and Peacock on October 2. In my review, I wrote that the inaugural season “offers enough supernatural charm, heart, and whimsy to endear Soleil and her friends to viewers, hoping to see their ascension to full hero in the future.

Filmmaker Eli Roth exploded onto the horror scene in 2002 with the ultra-gory, deliberately shocking virus movie "Cabin Fever," a film so goopy and gross, it all but assured Roth a place in the contemporary horror canon of rising filmmakers. His snarky, shock-for-shock's-sake fratboy mentality fit perfectly in with the "extreme" edgelord attitudes of the early '00s. Indeed, some might say that it was Roth's films that helped define the era's impish, adolescent propensity toward provocation. The director certainly cemented his legacy as one of the key figures in the post-9/11 "torture porn" subgenre with his two "Hostel" movies in 2005 and 2007. He pushed his legacy further in 2013 with the release of "The Green Inferno," an homage to extreme 1980s Italian cannibal movies like "Cannibal Holocaust." Roth was a "bad boy."
In 2007, Roth made a jokey trailer for a fake slasher movie called "Thanksgiving," a trailer included in the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature "Grindhouse.

Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” a holiday-set slasher, is nearly here. And a brand-new trailer has arrived, checking off boxes for both spooky season and the upcoming turkey-centered holiday.
In “Thanksgiving,” a Black Friday tragedy inspires a serial killer known as “John Carver” to come to Plymouth, Massachusetts and start eliminating victims. It looks fairly straightforward, in terms of its slasher movie aesthetic, but also incredibly imaginative in the ways that the holiday is being implemented. That’s particularly true as we see a fresh victim wake up and realize she’s inside a giant oven.
If you’re going to do a movie called “Thanksgiving,” there are certain things that you simply must put your spin on.

"Someone's out for revenge... and they're turning it into a sick holiday game." Sony Pictures has debuted the full official trailer for Eli Roth's Thanksgiving horror movie, arriving in theaters this November right before the real Thanksgiving. Let's eat. Some will recall this started out as a joke - as a "fake trailer" playing in-between the two movies as part of Tarantino / Rodriguez's Grindhouse double feature in 2007. After 16 years, they've turned this Thanksgiving joke into a real horror. After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday. The cast includes Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Milo Manheim, Nell Verlaque, Gina Gershon, Tim Dillon, and Rick Hoffman. Eli Roth last directed The House with a Clock in Its Walls in 2018, making this a return to his real gross out horror roots. It looks like a terrifying slasher,...

Every major holiday could stand to have a slasher movie themed around it, especially one with a sunny disposition masquerading the grim truth behind it like Thanksgiving. Such was Eli Roth's thinking when he made his fake "Thanksgiving" movie trailer for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse" experiment back in 2007. Roth's original short is a collection of scenes of people getting brutally decapitated over the Thanksgiving holiday frame by a serial killer dressed as a Pilgrim. It's grotesque, juvenile, and tasteless. In other words, it's everything you either love or hate about Eli Roth's horror work in general.
16 years later, Roth has finally gone and turned "Thanksgiving" into a full-fledged film, just like the fake "Grindhouse" trailers turned actual films "Machete" and "Hobo with a Shotgun" before it. Roth's slasher also marks his return to the realm of hard R-rated genre fare after his brief detour into...

"A time for all families to be together..." Sony Pictures has unveiled the first look teaser trailer for Eli Roth's Thanksgiving horror movie, arriving in theaters this November just in time for the real Thanksgiving. Oh boy. Movie nerds will remember that this started out as a joke - it was a "fake trailer" playing in-between the two movies as part of Tarantino / Rodriguez's Grindhouse double feature in 2007. After 16 years, apparently without any other ideas to work on instead, they've made this Thanksgiving joke into a real horror movie. Here was the pitch for the original trailer: a gory teaser about a pseudo movie in which a slasher makes his own carving board out of the inhabitants of a Massachusetts town that makes a big fuss over the annual turkey day. The cast for this movie includes Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Milo Manheim, Nell Verlaque,...

For an experiment that fell flat on its face at the box office, "Grindhouse" has left a remarkably large cultural footprint. Not only has Quentin Tarantino's half of his and Robert Rodriguez's 2007 double-feature, "Death Proof," gained greater appreciation, but also several of the fake trailers included in screenings of the duo's exploitation genre love letter have since taken on a life of their very own. Rodriguez's "Machete" trailer has birthed not one but two films, while the "Hobo with a Shotgun" trailer (a fan-made promo that mostly screened with "Grindhouse" in Canada) similarly gave rise to an actual film titled *checks notes* "Hobo with a Shotgun."
After more than 15 years of promising to turn his own "Grindhouse" faux promo, "Thanksgiving," into the real deal, writer/director Eli Roth has finally gone and done just that. The original trailer, for those unfamiliar, centers on a serial killer who...

Genre regular Eli Roth has another horror project coming our way – but this one won’t be nearly as brutal or bloody as the likes of Cabin Fever or Hostel. Instead, it’s some “gateway horror” entertainment that comes in the form of an animated series called Fright Krewe. Said to be aimed at “older children”, the first season of Fright Krewe will consist of ten episodes that will be released through both the Hulu and Peacock streaming services. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The Wrap reports that Roth has teamed up with Dreamworks and author James Frey to bring this series to the screen – and they also point out that Frey is a rather controversial figure. His books A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard were initially marketed as memoirs, but it was soon revealed that large portions of them were either exaggerated or made up.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at Snoop Lion's La La La, directed by Eli Roth. Eli Roth making a Halloween music video for Snoop Dogg... That is sure to be grisly and offensive, right? Well, the director of such splatter fare as the Hostel-series and Cabin Fever surprised enemies and friends in 2013 by making his most child-friendly effort to date, even counting the later The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The song La La La, made by Snoop Dogg under the moniker Snoop Lion, was partly meant as an announcement of 'the reincarnation of the artist'. The music video makes this literal, by placing Snoop Dogg...

It's not surprising that Eli Roth has transitioned somewhat into the role of TV host. Roth is a veritable encyclopedia of genre film and loves just talking movies. As far as movie geeks go, he's also a little more presentable and "TV ready" than the average horror fan. Roth has already hosted three seasons of "AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth's History of Horror" where the writer, producer and director interviews famous luminaries and storytellers from the vast world of horror. In what might be his most disturbing film, Roth also directed the Discovery+ documentary, "Fin," produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, that exposed the worldwide corruption of the shark fin industry where hundreds of thousands of sharks are murdered and maimed every year.

In the midst of many big time changes over at Warner Bros., we’ve learned tonight that the Salem’s Lot remake from WB/New Line has been bumped from release yet again.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, and now the film has been undated altogether.
It’s likely that Warner Bros. is trying to figure out what to do with the movie, and whether to bring it to theaters or to streaming on HBO Max. We’ll report more as we learn it.
James Wan produced for Warner Bros. and New Line, with Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home) writing the script and also directing the new movie.
Salem’s Lot 2023 is set “circa 1975 (when King’s book was first published).”
